Kat gave Thali and Reiya a small smile. "I hope you're right," she said to Thali as she returned the toddler's hug.
Gavin's ears twitched, then he suddenly jerked his head to the side as if he heard something. Moving quickly, he twisted out of the toddler's grasp and ran behind a nearby tree. He smoothly transformed into his human form, then stepped out from behind the tree with a pout on his face. "Sammi, why didn't you come looking for me?"
Kat saw what her brother had done and immediately held her breath. "Here it comes..." she murmured, waiting for the toddler to burst into tears.

Thali sighed, and looked to Kat. "If you don't want to go temporarily deaf, I suggest plugging your ears.." She muttered, before clapping her hands over her own. "I hope Gavin knows what he's doing.." She said. "He's just crushed Sammi's heart."
As expected, Sammi did indeed burst into tears. But it seemed like more of a temper tantrum than a 'I'm so sad you left me!' thing. "I WAN MY PUPPY!" She cried, as only a small child could. "Where Puppy?!" She rubbed at her eyes, sniffling. "Wan Puppy..." She didn't seem to notice Gavin, she was too busy throwing her tantrum. She threw herself onto the ground, face first into the grass and cried.

Kat blinked at Thali, then her eyes widened at what the elf said. She quickly brought her hands up to her ears and covered them. Right before she'd blocked out the world, however, she heard the elf's last comment and snorted. "Hah! He never knows what he's doing!"
Gavin cringed at the onslaught of noise and turned toward Thali. "Um...help?" he squeaked.

But Thali was no help. And if she had tried to help, she probably would have made it worse. Just because she was the mother didn't mean she always knew how to calm Sammi down.
But at that very moment, someone who knew how to arrived. "I heard screaming and wondered who I'd find.." Alivia explained from behind Gavin. She spotted Sammi, and frowned slightly. "Poor Sammi! What happened to make her cry like that?" She asked, having to raise her voice to be heard over Sammi's screams.

Gavin quite nearly jumped out of his skin as a voice sounded from behind him. Once he regained his composure, he turned his head to look over his shoulder and was horrified to see Livvy. He thought the voice had sounded familiar..
"Ah...um...well...we had a bit of a misunderstanding, I think.." he said, hardly loud enough to be heard over Sammi's howling.
Kat blinked at the newly arrived Alivia. "Who's that?" she mouthed to Thali, as neither of them could hear each other with their hands over their ears.

By this time, Sammi had found that picking herself up from the ground to throw herself back down wasn't a very good idea. She noticed Livvy, and stopped all at once. "Auntie!" She cried, dashing over to the elf. "Auntie auntie! Hug?" She lifted her hands, sniffling. Livvy was a good distraction, for now.
Livvy picked Sammi up, and hugged her. "Now what seems to be the trouble, Samsam?" She asked, as if she was talking to a teenager instead of a toddler.
"Puppy went 'way." Sammi explained as well as she could. "Puppy and I play, and ask Unca Gavi if he wan play with Puppy too...and Puppy went 'way.." She sniffled, her nostrils flared, her eyes went into warning slits of dispair--
"Calm down." Livvy said, patting the toddler on the head. "I'll help you find Puppy. And Gavin will too." She looked at Gavin. "Won't you?"
Thali sighed. "The girl I was telling you about. She's my sister--by adoption. She's hopelessy in love with Gavin, though..."
