Event/Location: End of Araith's First Mating Flight, Corridors/M'xan and Enelth's weyr, Rias Weyr

Quote:

Stalking out of the Weyrwoman's quarters and shaking off the last vestiges of mating-flight daze, M'xan seethed at the insult that he had been delivered. A Brown. A Brown! That arrogant, cheeky excuse for a weyrwoman and her gold had flown that scrawny brown Tallith, knocking him from his hard-earned position of Weyrleader and replacing him with brownrider L'cian. No, now it was Weyrleader L'cian. M'xan ground his teeth.

"Bronzes fly Queens. That's how it's always been, and that's how it should be! Enelth's twice the dragon that underfed runt is! Twice the dragon!" he snarled, sharply turning into his own weyr and ignoring those who scattered in the face of his black mood. Entering inside, he saw a glint of bronze and strode angrily to the ledge outside, where the enormous form of Enelth crouched, eyes whirling an angry counterpart to his rider's own fury.

"Our plans, Enelth! We were going to turn this into a proper Weyr, not a bunch of cowering watch-whers, too afraid to stand up to those pathetic Lord Holders and demand what's rightfully ours!" M'xan's deep voice was furious, his blue eyes flashing dangerously; he had taken the flight as a personal insult.

We still hold power in this Weyr, we will still influence them. The bronze dragon rumbled calmly, though his faceted eyes still whirled with agitation; that a brown had caught the Queen had been a fierce blow to his own pride as well.

The Bronzerider growled under his breath, his dragon's sensibilities dulling the edge of his anger. He knew Enelth was right. They would still wield a great amount of power. This posed the question, however: would it be enough to influence the new weyrleader? M'xan smirked mockingly and leaned up against Enelth's bulk. They would see just how well this brownrider could cope. Yes, they would see indeed.

Feeling a rush of soothing reassurance flow through their bond, M'xan let his expression soften slightly, into something reserved solely for Enelth, and reached up to scratch the great bronze's eyeridge's.

"We will control this weyr, Enelth." He promised softly, fiercely, "It will be a true Weyr, following the old ways, the pure, right ways. No more compromise with arrogant, wherrie-faced Holders."

The bronze dragon's next mental words were laced with disdain.

And in the next flight, I will catch the Queen, not some brown, as is proper. And he shall remember the reason why only bronzes fly Queens.

Event/Location: Hatching Festivities, Weyrbowl, Rias Weyr

DarkenedHorizons
M'xan was annoyed. Lately this had been a reoccuring state of mind, but right now, the constant babble of elated Weyrfolk was getting on his nerves. Still, as he moved quickly out the throng to linger around a less populated area, he couldn't help but let a trickle of smug, vindictive satisfaction enter him. Despite the large festivel, the bronze rider was not at all impressed with the clutch. The was no Queen egg, and the size wasn't much to be proud of either.

Your brooding again, love. Enelth's voice sounded almost lazily in his mind. He was up on the ledges, watching the proceedings with a passive interest, bronze body stretched out and tail flicking idly.

It's just as I said. A Brown flying a Queen will only weaken the Weyr. Look at the clutch, and the newly Impressed. Not a promising one in the lot!

Yes, love, you are right, Enelth soothed, though he agreed wholeheartedly, Don't worry; We may be able to show a few what a Weyr should be.

M'xan recalled the newest Dragonriders, and how they looked and responded to the Hatchlings. They were green, even with their supposed lessons. M'xan knew how furious Blyir had been when she hadn't be given the place of Canidate Master. Even though it was a good idea on Enelth's part, they had probably already been schooled in how Weyrleader L'cian ran things. Letting his face twist into a brief sneer, he sent a quick reply to Enelth.

I sincerly doubt it.

Ice_Dragon_Demon
Orana began to walk away from the main festiveities. She felt though she didn't belong with the others and their weyrmates. She sighed "Its not fair" she muttered "The clutch was so small, I should have impressed." she said quietly to her depressed self. IT probally would have been better if one of the resident Bronzes had caught the queen. There would have been a larger clutch and she would have impressed something she felt she deserved. She worked hard, and she was one of the only smiths in the Weyr. It just wasn't fair. She had almost tripped over Enelth's tail till Malathan chirped and woke her up from her brooding. "I am so sorry" She bowed appoligeticly to the dragon and his rider.

DarkenedHorizons
Enelth rumbled at the girl, alerting M'xan to the fact tht there was somebody close by. Turning to see that she had almost tripped over Enelth, he scowled. Honestly. How could she have missed him; he was huge! Not to mention he was bronze and stood out quite a bit. As he glared, he realized that she looked vaguely familer; she must have been a rejected candidate. This made his even more annoyed: this was the best they could provide?

"Watch where your going," he snapped irritably.

Ice_Dragon_Demon
Orana cringed when M'xan snapped at her. She honestly hadn't met to not watch where she was going "I am truly very sorry" She said more convicing with that she bowed her head once more. "Sorry magnificent Enelth" she said to the dragon "I never ment to be rude."

Malathan hissed at M'xan in defence for Orana. Ithean joined as well. Orana scolded them both.

"Be polite" she said sternly looking at the firelizards. The last thing she wanted was to cause a problem.

Kolina
Ephia was wandering the Weyrbowl when the sound of M'xan's voice caught her attention. She sighed, feeling aheadache already forming as she approached the man and the candidate. "I do hope you aren't terrorizing candidates now, M'xan." Her voice was neither pleasant nor cold. It held a neutral tone as she regarded the old bronzerider.

The sight and sound of the man was enough to give her headache, and the slight dull ache was already beginning to fom. M'xan was always trying to push himself upon her in one way or another. He wanted things his way, the old way, but Ephia could not turn back to such ways anymore. When she had taken over leadership several things had changed that the older man did not agree upon, along with his wingsecond Blyir. The two were always trying to sway her with their talk or catch her fouling up. It was enough to make someone wish to go /between/ for good.

DarkenedHorizons
M'xan spared mentally raised an eyebrow a her words to Enelth; apparently their reputation had spread quite far. That was almost gratifying. He was about to tell her that she could leave now, when another voice sounded nearby. Turning to see who it was, he nearly scowled. Of all the people...

Putting on a carefully blank face, he turned to meet the Weyrwoman, and gave a short, mocking bow. "Weyrwoman Ephia." He glanced at the candidate, before looking back to her and smoothly replying, "I would hardly call it 'terrorizing'. Perhaps if more of these candidates were from the Weyr, or were searched more wisely, perhaps for more intelligence, they would realize that they must watch where they are going. Some Dragons don't take kindly to being trod upon." The insult to their choice of Search riders was very thinly veiled--M'xan wouldn't bother with dancing around how he felt.

Kolina
Ephia looked at M'xan coldly. His words did not please her at all. Turning her attention to Orana when she spoke, Ephia's face softened somewhat. "Well, take better care next time. If you don't mind, Orana. I'd like to speak with M'xan alone." She smiled kindly to the candidate and when she left Ephia turned her attention back to the bronze rider.

"That was uncalled for M'xan. To insult Orana and the searchriders was not something that needed to be said in front of one of those searched." Ephia couldn't help it but her temper always seemed to flare up so easily around this man. "If you have such a problem with how things are conducted you bring it to me and L'cian. You should know that well enough, bronzerider." She glowered at him as she tried to keep herself in check. The last thing she needed was for a scene to be made.

Are you alright Mine?

'Yes, dear, I'll be fine.'

Ariath rumbled, letting Enelth know she was none too pleased with what was upsetting her rider.

DarkenedHorizons
Oh, this was interesting. A smug smile flitted onto his face as the young girl defended his harsh words. It was funny--now the Queenrider couldn't even justify his "terrorizing", and it appeared that the girl barely noticed the insult. Truly, their choice of candidates was sad.

As she was sent off, M'xan was faced with one fairly annoyed Weyrwoman. He listened, completely unfazed, as she deemed his words uncalled for. At that point, he decided to interject a comment.

"On the contrary, it was very called for. Perhaps now she might realize that she isn't fit for Weyrlife. Ignoring the fact that there are Dragons about--which I'm sure she desperately wanted to Impress--is an idiotic mistake, one I thought only the dullest of Holdbred children could make." He could already tell what her reaction might be; the Bronzrider hoped for her to slip up, so he could catch her in her mistake.

When she mentioned L'cian, however, he hardened.

"Of course. Bring problems to Brownrider L'cian." he said softly, the sneer evident in his voice.

Enelth, meanwhile, was listening to the two's argument. When Ariath rumbled at him, however, he lifted his head and his eyes whirled angrily. He wasn't about to let go of his mating-flight grudge.

Kolina
Ugh! The insufferable wherry! How dare he!!!!

Calm down, mine.

Ephia let out a deep breath before even attemtping to retort the bronzerider. "Who do you think you are? You have no say over who should or who shouldn't be at this Weyr. Weyr born children will never be favored over hold bred. There is no possible way the Weyr could survive with Weyrbred candidates alone, and why you can't comprehend that I am unsure." she was practically seething. Oh how she wished she could just slap him.

"You _will_ bring any complaint to Weyrleader L'cian. He's your better, don't forget it, Wingleader."

Ariath at this point had moved to join her rider. The anger that was practically hanging like clouds around the Weyrwoman was enough to distress the queen. Ariath's swirling red eyes met Enelths and she hissed. Her larger form pushing past his as she craned her neck to lower her head to her lifemate.

Kimaria
The wily, aged woman weaved between the crowds, eyes scanning the faces for any that were familiar. There were many here today and the celebration had forced smiles upon all their faces. Her expression was forced however, a thin-lipped smile as she scanned the crowds. Where could that bronze rider be?

She squeezed between a tight-knitt crowd and continued, being careful not to attract too much attention. Most people here were not even from the Weyr, not used to being surrounded by dragons as those who were bred and raised here. She doubted they would make very good riders but she supposed only time would tell.

For now she had other things on her mind.

They are just up ahead...He's with...her Waroth stressed the last word and Blyir knew then just what her beautiful brown was talking about.

With a silent word of thanks she continued, finally setting eyes upon her Wingleader and that woman. A flare of jealousy erupted in her chest which was only eased by the fact that she seemed to be quite aggravated. M'xan must be doing a good job winding her up.

DarkenedHorizons
Enelth's considerable bulk rocked slightly as the Queen brushed past him. Giving an angry hiss of his own, he shifted and twined his neck around M'xan's form, his scarred muzzle raised just above M'xan's head.

Despite his original intention to remain calm, M'xan could feel anger trickling through his smug, self-assured defenses. Annoying, interfering, infuriating woman! She had no idea how a Weyr should be run, how old traditions should be honored, and how much her Queen had depleted thier strength by being flown by a Brown. And L'cian, L'cian was nothing more than a foolish weyrling incapable of even keeping her in line!

"Oh, yes, if one can be bettered by a wherrie." he snarled contemptuosly.

M'xan! Enelth's voice rang sharply, and he realized that he had let his temper run away with him. Steeling himself, he forced himself calm.

Your friend is near. Enelth sounded slightly less lecturing now, for which M'xan was grateful. He hated letting his temper rule his tongue--not only would it not help this particular situation, it could also be used against him.

Which one would that be?

Brown Waroth's rider. the Bronze sent back, now craning his head for a sight of either of them. M'xan smiled to himself; Blyir would certainly be able to keep the Weyrwoman on her toes this festival.

Kolina
Ephia smirked as she instinctively reach out to scratch the golden eyeridge of her protective queen. She could see the anger filtering through M'xan's eyes. It only pleased her to see that she could still get him so rialed up. "If he's the wherrie, what does that make you, M'xan? A Tundlebug? That is quite befitting." A chuckle escaped her.

Swirling red eyes met with Enelth's before she turne dher full attention to her rider and crooned softly. The anger her rider was experience was filtering away only to be replaced by cynical amusement and Ariath was very much enjoying it. She had neer been fond of the old bronze and his rider and there were very few that the queen did not like.

DarkenedHorizons
Normally, M'xan would begin to feel the stirrings of rage at her comments. However, with Enelth cautioning him in the back of his mind, M'xan's eyes only narrowed and his lips curled into a scornful smirk.

"I, my dear Weyrwoman, am one who knows what this Weyr really needs." his voice was soft, dangerous. "And I can promise that L'cian will not have a second chance or a repeat preformance."

Kimaria
She sidled up to stand beside M'xan, eyeing up the Weyrwoman with a cool and calculating glance before laying a rather gentle hand upon her Wingleader's forearm.

"So here you are M'xan." She said in a rather amiable tone, "I must say I'm glad to see you two are getting on so well." Her eyes practically danced as she glanced between them. "I hope there isn't a problem here Weyrwoman, I'm sure M'xan was doing nothing but his duty."

Waroth chuffed quietly from his ledge, eyes whirling wildly as he looked upon his rider and her friend. He didn't want trouble.

"Oh! I almost forgot to congratulate you on a beautiful clutch! That first brown to hatch brought a tear to my eye." She gave Ephia one of the sweetest smiles she could conjure, ignoring the warnings of her dragon. There was nothing wrong with pointing out such a nice little detail, was there?

Kolina
Ephia glared at M'xan once more. "You and your old ways will be the downfall of this Weyr, M'xan. Times have changed, you had better learn to deal with them or adjust."

Just at the precise moment the unwelcomed sound of Blyir caused the woman to inwardly cringe. Just what she needed, another traditionalist trying to make her falter and stumble. The close prescene of Ariath though helped ease her thoughts though as she listened to what the obnoxious brownrider had to say.

"Really Blyir, I do believe you are blind when it comes to M'xan. He is not as noble and innocent as you take him to be. Then again, you traditionalists must stick together like a pack of frightened herdbeast."

She placed a hand on Ariath's muzzle and the queen held her wedge-shaped head closer to her rider. Even though her rider was calm and collective in appearance the queenrider was seething on the inside. Ariath knew something had to be done and soon.

"Why Blyir, I am pleased to hear you enjoyed the hatching so. I know what it must have been like to see all those little browns impressing with their riders. Pity that I missed that tear though, do you think you sould maybe reinact it for me? It's a shame that such a sight had to go to waste."

Kimaria
L'cian! Tallith's voice was strained and worried and caused L'cian to look up from his conversation with a group of new Weyrlings. His eyes darted about him and located the red-brown dragon not too far ahead.

Something wrong?

It's Ariath, she's angry.

By what? Has something happened? L'cian felt fear and anxiety grip him, claw at his insides until he felt himself tremble. The tone in which his dragon spoke was not one he often heard and that alone made him nervous.

The troublesome ones, they taunt her and your golden she. Tallith gave a low rumble deep in his chest, moving forwards a little in his position to crane his head back, eyes rolling. L'cian nodded in understanding of the urgency in his dragon's actions and turned to bid a quick apology and farewell to the youngsters.

"Forgive my rudeness but there is something I must attend, I'll be sure to catch up with you all later." He gave them a warm smile despite how he felt and turned on his heel to head in the direction of Ephia. He could see Ariath's golden from easily and used her as a guide to lead him in the correct direction, taking comfort as he felt Tallith's shadow fall over him. His large brown would give him the courage needed to face this situation.

Tell Ariath I am on my way. He mind spoke to his dragon who agreed with a throaty hum, relaying the message to his beautiful queen a moment later.

~~~~~
Blyir managed to maintain a pleasant looking smile throughout, her eyes flickering from Ariath and back to the Weyrwoman. Out of the corner of her eye she could see Waroth looking down upon them, his eyes whirling with the slightest twinge of yellow. He was concerned about her behaviour...the silly beast!
She turned her attention then once more to Ephia, listening to her words without interruption, it was easier to let her finish before speaking once more. Things seemed to work out much clearer that way.
"A sight it may have been but one I do not intend to show off again any time soon my Weyrwoman." She gave a mocking bow of her head, "my emotions are not as open as yours."
Blyir... Waroth warned with a whirl of his eyes. Tread carefully now, the large brown approaches
Blyir paid no heed to her dragon's warning, she cared not about L'cian or his overgrown Tallith. She was confident enough in her abilities of banter to be able to dance about this situation with ease. There was nothing wrong with what she was doing, she was sure.
DarkenedHorizons
M'xan was inwardly pleased with Blyir's subtle mockery, his own temper cooling at the obvious irritation of the Queenrider. He ignored her scornful remark about traditionalists, instead addressing the downfall of the Weyr.
"Not unless the Weyr is destroyed first by thoughtless, flagrant disregard for ideals that have been in use for centuries." he replied, crossing his arms over his chest and leaning indolently against the Bronze dragon.
Enelth rumbled suddenly, causing the M'xan to look up. The great Bronze's eyes were whirling orange in anger, his neck arched as he searched the vicinity. The bronzerider sent a mental question, watching as Enelth grew slightly restless, seething.
He comes. Enelth's voice was cold and unforgiving, leaving no doubt in M'xan's mind who exactly he meant. Wonderful. Their illustrious Weyrleader was on his way.
Kolina
If Ephia would have been a any other rider and not have to keep up appearances she was sure that a punch would have been thrown at the brownrider, but being Weyrwoman did not allow for such actions. Besides, she doubted the Mester Weaver would be happy to see the gorgeous gown he had constructed for her ruined. Instead she just smiled cooly at the brownrider and said nothing more.
Instead she turned and looked to her queen affectionatly. "M'xan, you need to learn your place. I am the Weyrwoman and L'cian is the Weyrleader. You, my dear bronzerider, have no say on how _we_ direct this Weyr. In fact, I believe you and your traditionalists, the few of you that there are, are the _only_ ones who are not pleased with the direction the Weyr is going." She looked up from the mesmerizing eyes of her golden lovely to look calmly at M'xan. "Do not forget that I and L'cian have rule over you and if you continue to go about the path that you keep constructing, then I will be forced to take action against you and the fist matter of business will be your disranking." Her words had been calm and cool but held a hint of warning that she was not beyond her threat. Sure, she did hate flaunting her ranking and power over other riders but, at times, such things were needed and warranted.
A rumble from Ariath cause Ephia to take her eyes away from the two rider in front of her. A faint smile graced her lips as her dear one informed her of Tallith and L'cian's approach. The shadow of a dragon above had Ephia's eyes flicking upwards before she turned her attention back to Blyir and M'xan. "Oh, and Blyir, that all extends to you as well. There are many a bronze and brownriders whom could fill your positions."
Kimaria
Blyir's whole face darkened, a sneer begginning to twitch at the corners of her mouth and deepen the lines in her angular, stern face. She moved a step closer to M'xan, believing firmly in the safety in numbers. However it seemed this time rank would win over them...especially with L'cian on his way. That man was most troublesome.
At Ephia's final words Blyir felt her rage increase tenfold, hands tightening into fists at her sides. Waroth mirrored a portion of her rage in his own eyes. The fear of replacement reeling in his mind. A humiliation!
"Well nice to see you three." A pleasant voice floated onto the group joined with the croon of a contented brown dragon who went to aid his queen. L'cian paused to stand beside Ephia, sweeping his eyes over to the two traditionlists before taking up the Weyrwoman's hand and pressing a small kiss to her palm. An action to give him strength and to weaken the others. "The Master Weaver did an amazing job on your gown." He murmered with an affectionate smile. It was time to be more open with his emotions, time to be cunning. Could he manage it?
"Tallith was kind enough to tell me of your whereabouts." He continued in Ephia's direction before turning to gaze at M'xan. "I take it you are enjoying the festivities?"
Blyir said nothing, the slight trembling of her body still showing her anger. She had truly been outdone this day and that was more than enough humiliation for her to take.
Then after another moments pause she decided to atleast greet him, it was only proper after all. "Weyrleader L'cian." She almost snarled his name, black hair fluttering in her face as she gazed up at him.
Tallith let out another low croon, extending his wings a little and shuffling over to the gold, moving to brush his snout against her neck, eyes whirling in Enelth's direction.
DarkenedHorizons
Disranking. The word rang heavily in the bronze rider's mind, infuriating him. They wouldn't dare. But even as he thought them, his words held a twinge of doubt. Pushed this far, they just might. His fists clenched. At this point, neither Blyir nor he could afford to be stripped of their rank and lose their positions of influence. He would, as much as he loathed even thinking it, have to back down. For now.
At L'cian's apperance, M'xan forced himself to give a curt nod. "Immensely, Weyrleader." He said tightly, a snarl faintly coloring his voice as he was addressed.
Enelth nudged his rider, giving a cautioning rumble before arching his neck and returning Tallith's gaze. A Queen may command a Bronze, but a Brown would not!
Kolina
A smile graced the Weyrwoman's face as L'cian greeted her in a most kind gesture. "Why thank you L'cian, it complements dear Ariath very well, wouldn't you say so Blyir?" She looked to the woman before her attention was torn to the sight of the golden and brown bodies. "Well I must thank Tallith, I had wondered if I would locate you in this large mass of people, but I am enjoying the festivities, as much as I can at the moment." She glanced to M'xan and Blyir.
Ariath crooned softly as her whirling eyes died from red to orange, to a relaxed green. Ephia was quite content now and Ariath was pleased to have Tallith nearby, but she was still very unhappy of enelth being so near to her. Whirling eyes turned to the aging bronze to back up her brown. How dare this bronze not back away from the look _her_ mate gave him. Whirling eyes slipt to orange again, unhappy with this old bronze. Watch your manners, Enelth. Talith is mine, not you, you will do well to remember that and give him the reseect he deserved. It was Tallith that deserved me in the flight and it's why he caught me.
Ephia shook her head at her mighty queen. Ariath was certainly proud and would not let anyone get away with anything that defied her in anyway. Ephia looked to L'cian with a smile before turning to M'xan and Blyir. "It was a pleasure speaking to you both, but I believe that L'cian and I should go meet some of our other guests." With that she rested a hand on L'cian's arm before walking away from the duo calmly.
Kimaria
Blyir's eyes narrowed dangerously, a silent threat playing behind them as she glared first at Ephia and then at her blasted queen. Waroth rumbled comfortingly in her mind, his own eyes still whirling fearfully. Things were beginning to get a little out of hand that was for sure.
"Yes, though I'm not sure brown compliments gold very well." She muttered the comment under her breath but it was indeed loud enough for the small group to hear if they were paying attention.
Waroth gave a bugle of warning, brown head raised and jaws parted, wings extending as he raised up from his perch. The dragon was usually such a laid-back beast, allowing his rider to do as she pleased with usually no retribution, but things were becoming difficult and his rider was out of her depth. Dear one, let us leave, let us fly.
~~~

L'cian smiled in M'xan's direction as if he was oblivious to the tension, chosing to ignore it rather than to comment upon it and fuel it into further rage. He turned to Ephia as she spoke before glancing up at their dragons who were standing close by. "Yes he told me you had company and that it was only right I should attend. I must say it's nice to see you two again." He beamed at Blyir and M'xan once more, the nervous feeling in his stomach replaced with confidence. For once his rank seemed to be an advantage rather than a burden.

Then at Ephia's dismissal he nodded in farewell and turned with her, pausing only to glance at Tallith who was emitting a low sound deep in his chest. It seemed he wanted words with that old bronze.

The brown dragon tucked his head against his chest in a proudly male fashion and fanned his wings eyes whirling slowly, possesively. Old ones must make room for the young. He taunted gently, moving to press himself closer to the Queen.

DarkenedHorizons
Enelth's wings unfurled and he reared back at the Queen's reprimand, the sight of the Brown possesively close to the Gold serving only to anger him further. Draconic sensibilities won out, however, and he contented himself with a baleful glare and a promise that next time, Tallith wouldn't be so lucky. He felt his rider place a hand on his soft hide, not so much in warning as in reassurance. He angled his head towards M'xan, acutely aware that the bronzerider had barely managed to rein in his own temper.

His hand still resting on Enelth, M'xan tracked the Weyrleader's exit until they dissappeared amongst the crowd. A tight-lipped, tense expression was the only indication of the threat that still rankled him.

"Insufferable woman."
