[When chatting with my g/f MKA recently, we somehow got onto the subject of interracial dating. And to make a lengthy narrative brief, she eventually began ranting about how black men are "sleeping with the enemy." The "enemy" being white women.

Now...MKA is my girl...I love her dearly...but "the enemy?" I wanted to start laughing. Instead I said, "That's okay, girl; because the more black men choose white [or whatever race of] women, the more acceptable it is for me to date outside my color too."

What I was thinking, though: I really thought that black women weren't "stuck" on that anymore. Are you serious? The "enemy?" That burned. MKA, do you really feel threatened by someone else's color? Honestly. I'm about to scream just trying to recall everything that I was thinking about her statement. stressed

Feed me your comments, kids.

--Do you feel the same way as my friend MKA?

--Do black girls seem to get disapproval for dating outside their race more so than black guys?

--Have you dated outside your race?

--Are/were you ever afraid that the "other race" you were interested in wouldn't like you because of stereotypes?]
I think she's getting at the fact that by black men starting to date white women, that black women will be more ignored and disrespected. I think thats what she means.

1. No. But I think I can understand where she's coming from. Historically interracial relationships have had a taboo about them. It still exists to some extent. I don't think people should date outside their race just for the sake of being "different".

For some reason I've also encountered a lot of black men who ONLY date white women, and vice versa, and that creeps me out. I don't suppose this is the norm, though. Exclusivity works both ways.

2. Interesting question. I had this conversation with a ex-b/f (we had both dated outside our race). From personal experience I think the woman catches more flak, not only from her girlfriends and female acquaintances, but from male friends who seem to take a "protective" attitude towards the whole thing. Definitely a sexist element there. I also think that while both men and women meet with disapproval, the flak directed at women is more vocal. Again, this could just be my circle here.

3. Yes. I'm doing so right now.

4. Yes. But I've found that the ones worth talking to are the ones who don't care about that stuff.

biggrin Very true.

Whenever I've dated outside my race, though, it's sometimes fun to know what stereotypes my counterparts of other races are thinking about. xd

I've had a few "fried chicken" conversations with people, lol. It's funny when you don't have to be serious about it or worry about someone trying to hurt you.

Gosh i know people like that, like 70% of my family; and for a little while I felt that way but it was because this mixed guy I liked ditched me to start dating this white gal-pal of mine and I couldn't understand why he chose her over me, since she's fat ugly and taller than him, while I'm petite, cuter than her and don't dress like a ... um... well, I thought at first that he probably ditched me for her because she was white, but after discussing it with some of my guy friends I came to the conclusion that he probably chose her because of the way she dresses and the fact she's not a virgin.

Later I started dating an asian guy, and I got a lot of cr@p from my family about it. I thought they'd be more accepting about it, since most of them have had kids by white guys or married white women, but apparently asian was more than they could handle
