"A Three-way?!" Alle couldn't help the outburst, but she quickly covered her mouth with both of her hands, blue eyes wide. This... that... whatever it was was a bit more then Allende had ever thought possible. Shardit who was she kidding, she'd never given anything outside of cut and dry heterosexual pairings like her parents and older siblings a thought! She hadn't even given those pairings much thought! Sex and marriage were abstract concepts to the girl, and best left for those quiet moments spent with one's mother or foster mother... or.. well she hadn't quite done that either.
Oh, shocked just didn't quite describe the look on Alle's face...!
"I'm sorry Nandeli, that.. um... that is just quite...." Oh dear, she was going to make a fool out of herself if she kept talking like that! "I...I don't know what to say. My hold did not have any ... um.. gay men." There, that was quite the honest truth. Allende didn't feel an instinctual revulsion to the concept, she'd just never dealt with it before. Well, not in person anyway. At this point she couldn't even remember when it had last been mentioned in her presence... nor could she remember what she and Nan had been talking bout before it came up.

Well that was an outburst if Nandeli ever heard one. Was she really that scandalized about a three way? The Nose had to admit it was a little scandalous, but more because of their age difference than anything else. It was still a pretty adorable little relationship though, despite what Allende seemed to think about it. What wasn't cute about a little bluerider, who was helping out his mentor and his mentor's lover? And C'ren was bound to fall for H'dra one way or another. Who could resist such an adorable face? Even Allende would have to agree on that bit, once she met the bluerider. He was simply irresistible.
She wasn't very surprised to hear that Allende's Hold didn't have any gay men. The fact that the other girl had covered her mouth and stared with such a shocked expression was as much proof as she needed. Still, just because she had yet to understand the awesomeness that was gay men didn't mean she couldn't come to appreciate it. Nandeli just had to ease her into it slowly. Or throw her in head first. Either or seemed like a good idea. "No need to apologize! Weyr life is quite different from Hold life. But I suppose you've never met a gay man, huh? Or seen two guys kiss? You should keep an eye out for it here. I can show you the best dark corners if you'd like!" She was nothing if not persistent.

Blinking back at Nan some more, Alle was beginning to seriously question this young woman's motives. Aside from gay men (or women for that matter) Allende had never had the 'opportunity' to experience one of the finer aspects of living in a large group of people. Her cothold was mostly family, with one or two apprentices, and while there had been other cotholds nearby, Alle hadn't had more then a dozen chances to speak with their residents. Likewise, the good-natured gossiping that was commonplace among young women (and would have clued her in to Nan's word choice) eluded her. At this point she was taking everything Nan said at face value.
And with no humor. At. All.
Think objectively think objectively think objectively. She chanted mentally as she struggled to find words for what she wanted to say. Three guys doing Faranth knew what aside, if they were discussing a boy and a girl kissing, what would she say?
Eventually...
"Ummm, Nandeli... why would I do that? If they really are... well... you know... doing things. Shouldn't I make sure to stay out of their way so they can have some privacy?" She finally said, shifting uncomfortably along the fence line. "Weyr life may be very different, but ... I would hope some things would still be allowed to be kept private, yes?"

Reneneth, aware of her rider's fascination with the comment, had decided that it was in her favour to continue eating and keep her thoughts to herself. The human girl did seem a little uncomfortable about the topics at hand, but perhaps that was just because she was surprised by it all. She understood that feeling. Hers had yet to properly explain to her why she thought Galliath's and Uktenath's "looked good" together, but she was starting to get a better idea. It just took a little getting used to. The gold was sure this girl would "understand" it soon enough.
Had Nandeli known what was going on in poor Allende's mind she might not have been so optimistic about the whole ordeal. For a Hold girl she seemed to be taking it quite well and for that the Nose was very proud of her. All she needed to do was witness two boys going at it and bam! She would have another devotee to the tuber peeling corner and its gossip. But she would have to let Allende come to it on her own terms. You couldn't rush appreciation for gay men and their… well, we'll just leave it at gay men. Thus, Nan tried to keep her face as open as possible when Allende began asking her questions.
"Privacy?" She made a face. "If you really, reeeeally want privacy you have to go and close a door. I mean I'm all for people doing their own stuff but that's what closed doors are for. If you're doing it in broad daylight in the middle of the Weyr then I think it's totally fair game, don't you?" What else were dark corners for other than airing your potentially scandalous relationships? Nan certainly didn't see any other reason for their existence. Of course she was a little saddened when people took their relationships to their weyrs and kept it from her but she could respect that. She didn't gossip too much about the nice couples. There was a line somewhere.
"You'll understand one day though, I promise. It just takes a little getting used to, that's all." The Nose reached into her food bucket and found that Reneneth had eaten practically everything, save for some little bits she was having trouble reaching. Taking pity on her hungry dragon, Nan fished them out for her and let her eat them out of her hand. "I'd let you help feed her but I know it makes you a little queasy. Did you want to touch her instead?" A topic change couldn't be a totally bad idea.

Topsy turvey went the young holders mind as the logic of Nan's thinking sunk in. By the First Egg, was she an awful miscreant for even seeing the logic in that? Was she even worse if she agreed?
If you asked her father, yes.
But Allende was determined not to be her father, and Nandeli's logic was quite sound when one looked out it without the scandal attached. The young goldrider was quite right in saying that actions done in public must be meant to be public, and Alle said as much with a nod of agreement, or were at least 'fair game' until taken behind closed doors. Well, romantically at least. Alle's mind swiftly turned her down the darker route of drunken disorder'lies and those unscrupulous men and women who were quite happy to scam a honest holder for everything they had behind closed doors. Hopefully justice would not be stopped by a mere lock and key!
Oddly enough, however, Nan's assurance that she would understand the things she spoke of some day soothed the girl, despite her darker train of thought. Like Thread, this understanding of different relationships was another aspect of Weyrlife she would have to accustom herself too, but wasn't being tossed at her full in the face now.
That, and the change of topic was a welcome relief.
"If nether you nor she minds, I'd love too." She answered tentatively, still a little taken aback by the earlier topic and her shaky acceptance of something her father would be throwing a tizzy fit over. She was still young yet, no matter how different she hoped to someday be from her family.

Nan knew nothing about what was going on in Allende's mind, but if she had she would have said something about the scamming bit. In all honesty, nothing that went on in the Weyr was really that scandalous. Sure there were a few scuffs and several blueriders tossed out on the behinds after a particularly interesting flight, but other than that Weyrlife was pretty boring. But that was why people like Nan the Nose existed! It was her duty to make life exciting for all the poor bored folk of the Weyr. Allende would understand one day. Perhaps she would even join in the gossip once she'd wrapped her Hold brain around it all. She would definitely look forward to something like that.
"Oh she won't mind at all! She's finished anyways, see? No blood in the face." She wiped her hands as best she could on her little towel. Allende was probably so stunned from all this boy love talk that she didn't need to see Nandeli's bloody hands. Or Reneneth's bloody muzzle for that matter. She gently wiped the blood off of the gold's face, taking great care to get it all off. The young queen helped by licking as much as she could. I am clean now mine. Do not waste the blood though. It is very tasty. She gave her muzzle a final lick, before she turned her attention to Allende.
She may touch me now.
"She's ready. You can give her a scritch on the eye ridges here, or just touch her head. Mind the eyes though. And the nose. She doesn't like people sticking their fingers up her nose."
I do not think anyone likes that mine.
"Have you ever touched a dragon before Allende?"

It was with some personal shame that Alle realized she was still thinking a little too much about the earlier topic, even with the change in conversation.
While Nan assured her that there wouldn't be any blood on the little gold's muzzle, or mind that someone other then her rider was touching her, Alle's mind was still trying to wrap itself around the prospect of boy-boy love as being OK. More then ok, actually, it was commonplace, and at times maybe even romantically glamorized... is she were going to attribute all of the stereotypes she had ever heard about the romantic relationships between people.
Which, by the way, weren't much more then some childhood appropriate love stories.
Still, part of her mind and body was operating well enough to smile hesitantly at Nandeli and Reneneth, and to answer the young rider's question. "I suppose I have, considering that I had to be brought in here a-dragonback, but I didn't exactly touch her in this way." She said, stepping a little closer to Reneneth and bending down on one knee to be better able to gently touch the hatchling along her neck near her head. She didn't trust her hands not to shake, and she was being particularly mindful of Nan's advice about the eyes and nose! "To be honest I was a little to overwhelmed to be thinking about petting the neck beneath me." She added quietly, marveling at how soft the young dragon's hide was.. despite how much her hand was trembling. "I can't believe how soft she is! Are all dragons this soft?"

"Aaaah. Not surprising then. I doubt the dragon would have cared too much even if you did. I've never known them to send out a Search pair where the dragon didn't like children very much and didn't want to be touched by them." Nandeli was certain that riders got frequent requests to let others touch their dragons, and she didn't blame them. The awe of dragons didn't go away even if you were born in the Weyr. She knew she had personally been thrilled the first time she was allowed to touch a dragon, and she had had them living practically right outside her doorstep! Now that she had a dragon, it was only natural she allowed others to enjoy the same joy she had felt when she had been allowed to pat a dragon. The more respect and love that could be generated towards them the better.
She is very gentle. If she Impresses, Hers will be pleased by her kind touch. Reneneth crooned softly, tucking her wings against her body as she relaxed into the touch. It was part of the way Hers worked, she had come to understand, that she felt the need to give others the same opportunities she herself had been given. The gold found the touch tolerable and perhaps even a bit pleasant, even though the hand did not belong to Hers. The pride that Hers felt at the compliments was worth any minor discomfort she had may have felt.
Nandeli beamed at the praise. "They are if you take good care of them! She's young too, so her hide will be pretty soft, but if you oil them well they're very nice to touch. Definitely not wet or slimy! She says you've got a very gentle hand."
