I cried during it, it was so sad, but does this mean no more Torchwood?

I'm split when it comes to this:
1) I'd be intrigues to know what would happen next, how Torchwood would continue after this. This side of me would love another series.
2) I loved how the team interacted as a whole, instead of focusing on the individual characters. This side would be thrilled to have CoE as the Torchwood Finale - end on a high and all that.

I would be very weird to have only one member of the "original" TW crew in a new series, but she did promise jobs to people. Maybe she only did that to tell us that Torchwood, as an institution, will continue, but the series will not. ninja

I was in limbo and didn't know this was being aired until after it was over (thanks to my sister!) Anyways, thank god for On-Demand. I still haven't found the "Doctor Who" special, though. Grrr...

I thought...Children of Earth was good as Children of Earth, but not as Torchwood.
Put simply, I didn't feel like that was Torchwood anymore. *And not just because Ianto died.* It looked stunning (argh! spending too much time on html sites!! Forgetting to use BBCode!) but *it killed Torchwood for me. I'll be happy with just the two series from now on. COE is the season-that-never-was. Amazingly beautiful, but not Torchwood. And if a potential fourth series continues in the same vein as Children of Earth, then I'm sad to say that that's really it for me.. * sad Don't get me started. I could rant for years...
(Hello! Yeah, it's me jumping back in here...anyone else amused that while the layout of gaia has completely changed, the guilds and guild forums remain the same??)

Bwahah, hello! We're mostly dead around this subforum. ....... *joke absolutely not intended*
*facepalm*
*goes into emo rant*
.... you can figure out my reaction without me even needing to say it, now. neutral And yeah, Guilds kind of got a makeover but not really. It's the one place I ever get on Gaia for, really. whee
CoE did look stunning. But it fizzled out at the end. Much like the Series 4 finale of DW did after The Stolen Planet's epic buildup. (and in a way, S3 as well).
It was shocking, but not in a good way.

Right, now that I've had a month to regather my thoughts on CoE, I think I can see why the BBC decided to do this.
CoE gained over 6million viewers on peak nights. I believe that series 1 reached about 3million on BBC3, and similar scores again for series 2 on BBC2. (I could well be wrong - I haven't checked these recently, just relying on memory from the TV guide when it was first on!)
So, that makes over 2million non-regular Torchwood viewers tuning in for CoE. These viewers don't care about the fact that these characters have been working together for years, they had more members of the team in the past. What they want to see is gripping drama, and if that means sacrificing the wants of a small number of loyal fans to gain more viewers is a small price to pay for the writers. rolleyes
It was brilliantly written (until Day 5. I do agree with the analogy of Stolen Planet's brilliance compared to Journey's End). The scenes in the Cabinet Office were terrifyingly believable, thanks to the superb job of the actors. However, it didn't feel like Torchwood. It felt like borrowing the characters, sticking them completely out of their comfort zone, and then ruining their lives in every way possible.
If CoE had been shown as a BBC drama, with completely new characters in the same situations, I'd've loved it. However, they called it Torchwood, and changed it from the series and the characters that I'd come to love as a show.
I'll watch the first episode of season 4 in the same way that I did for the first episode of season 1: Tentatively but open-minded. Hopefully the new team won't let me down. If it does, then there goes another viewer. talk2hand
