More magic... Julien relaxed as Aesop admitted to it, though within him, he had to wonder. Was magic a normal thing for Ashes? Did all Ashe have some sort of magic? He looked up at Aesop curiously for a moment, waiting to see if Aesop would expand on his hesitant words. When he didn't, Julien pushed, just a little. "What do you do?" he asked, keeping his voice gentle. After the scares they'd had, the last thing he needed to do was trample over Aesop's feelings.
Mir relaxed just a bit as Cindy accepted her offer of help. It wasn't much, but it was something, at least. And she could remember how utterly terrifying it was, in those cold still hours between midnight and dawn, when your body wanted sleep but your mind was still whirling, still jumping at everything. She remembered how scared she'd been on her own after her husband's death, and she'd never once been attacked. So she could only imagine how that must magnify things for poor Cindy.
"Let's rent some good, cheerful movies tonight? No thrillers, no depressing stories. Just happy fun and stupid comedies, okay? Jules will probably want to cook something for us over pizza, and I bet, if we ask, he'll whip up something sinful and chocolate for us as well."
Yes... knowing that Cindy was coming over, even for just a night, made Mir feel better too.

Aesop paused and pondered how to explain. Honestly? Example would be the best way... But he didn't want to hurt Julien. He spotted a box of sodas from the corner of his eye and walked over to them.
With one soda in hand, he pointed to it. "Warm soda." He felt a little dumb for pointing out the obvious, but all this would be made clear soon.
His necklace put off a soft glow, and in a second or two, condensation formed on the can.
"Cold soda." He carefully tossed it to Julien and sighed. "I can do that to people, too." Aesop hadn't really wanted to admit that, but it was how he discovered his power in the first place.
At the sheer excitement in Mir's voice, Cindy couldn't help but smile. It took a load off her shoulders and it felt like she could breathe again. "That sounds wonderful."
And wouldn't you know, just minutes after she said that, they pulled into a parking lot of a little house. It was a quiet looking place out in the countryside, with it's share of trees and backyard. As Cindy parked the car, she stared up at it and let out a satisfied sigh. It wasn't a big house. Not at all. But it was a house.
It did need a little work. Weeds were growing in the flower beds, the windows and porch was filthy, and it looked like some critters had made homes in the drains.
"Reminds me of home."

Julien considered the drink for a long minute before looking up at Aesop seriously. "How cold can you do?" he asked quietly. He wasn't sure quite how he felt about the idea of Aesop... of anyone, really... being able to do something harmful to another. But at the same time, it sounded like Cindy really needed the protection.
Mir smiled quietly, looking over at Cindy. "That's what it is, right? 'Home'?" she suggested gently.
