Quidditch is one of the most intense, stressful extracurricular activities available at Hogwarts - players have suffered near-fatal injuries in the past, had breakdowns and panic attacks during the season, and have often endured the malicious pranks of opposing Houses in a cheap attempt at rendering them unable to play. The game is fast, difficult, and dangerous. Training is strenuous and captains are incredibly strict. It takes half a second to snap your neck in a broom crash - just like it takes half a second to score a winning point for your team, a moment of glory that will last forever. Glory that will get you the girl. Glory that will get you the invitation to apply for an official team. Glory that will give you the right to wear a "Hello: My Name is ******** AWESOME" badge to your next public function.

If you have the balls to take the pain to reach the triumph, then Quidditch is the sport for you.

Quidditch in the Wizarding World of Gaia is played based on random number generating, with some of its mechanics simplified for easier roleplaying. These rules do not apply to casual practices hosted on the Hogwarts Quidditch Pitch; actual House games are conducted in the Wizarding World of Gaia Events forum due to the number of pages they usually accumulate.

A General Overview

Players make posts describing the action they are attempting to accomplish (such as locating the Snitch, passing the Quaffle, etc.) They select the applicable random number generator options (such as 1 - 25 to score with the Quaffle) to gauge the success of their attempt.

In the case of passing the Quaffle, the player in possession of the ball chooses the character they intend to throw it to, and sets the random number generator to “1 to 20.” If the number generated is over 15, the chosen character is able to catch the Quaffle; if not over 15 (such as in the example below), the character must post that the Quaffle is not caught.

There are also chances for “Saving Numbers.” For example, if a random number is botched and a character drops the Quaffle, the first chaser on their team to post has chance to catch the fallen Quaffle - that is, if a chaser from the other team has not already done so. See “Save Numbers” for additional guidelines.

Characters like the Seeker will often post thirty times without accomplishing something. It is suggested that roleplayers who have characters in such positions have their characters engage in verbal banter or encouragement of their teammates; Quidditch is not all about generating numbers - it’s about a group of characters playing a high-stress game together. Additionally, characters can use the numbers generated to judge the level at which a character achieved or failed their attempted actions; for example, if a Chaser attempts to pass the Quaffle to a fellow player and receives only a 2 out of 20 in their attempt, other characters can comment on how horribly done the toss was.

Seekers: Catching the Golden Snitch

• To search for the Snitch, a Seeker must select 1 - 50 on their random number generator.
• If a Seeker receives 35 or over, they have spotted the Snitch (receiving a 50 means an instant catch.)
• If spotted, a Seeker must generate 1 - 50 again; the Snitch is caught only if the Seeker receives 40 or above.
• If the Seeker does not receive 40 or above, the Snitch escapes and the Seeker must return to trying to generate 35 or over out of 1 - 50.

Chasers: Passing and Scoring with the Quaffle

• To pass the Quaffle to another Chaser, the player must select 1 - 20 on their random number generator.
• Receiving a 15 or over means a successful pass.
• To score with a Quaffle, you must select 1 - 25 and receive 10 or higher, and the Keeper must fail his number generator attempt.
The Quaffle must be successfully passed to another teammate once in order to qualify for taking a shot at the goals. Catching it through a Saving Number does not count.

Keepers: Protecting the Goals

• To try preventing a goal, Keepers must select 1 - 20 on their random number generator.
• Receiving a 15 or above indicates a successfully blocked goal.
• After a goal is scored/failed, the Keeper must toss the Quaffle back to the players, selecting 1 - 20 on their random number generator.
• 10 and under indicates a chaser from their own team catches the ball, and 11 and over implies the opposite team; first Chaser to post from the random numbered side gets the ball.

Beaters: ******** s**t Up

• To hit a bludger at an opposing player (at any point in the game), a Beater must select 1 - 25.
• If a 15 or above is received, the Beater successfully aims for the player.
• If a player fails their Saving Number (20; see below) but manages to receive a 10 or higher, they must wait 3 posts to recover; if they receive below 10, they must wait 5 posts; players are knocked unconscious by a 1.
See Saving Numbers for additional information.

Save Numbers: A Team’s Second Chances

• If an attempt to pass a Quaffle is failed, the first chaser from either team to post next gets a chance at catching the fallen Quaffle if they have selected 1 - 20 on their post’s random number generator; they have captured the Quaffle if they receive a 15 or higher. If the attempt to catch the fallen Quaffle is also failed, the team opposite of the chaser trying to catch the dropped Quaffle automatically receives the ball.
• If a Beater successfully aims a bludger at a player, there is a chance that the player can avoid being hit. The player themselves can attempt to swerve by selecting 1 - 30 on their random number generator, or one of their team’s Beaters can assist by selecting 1 - 30 in an attempt to hit the bludger away (the first to post - Beater or player - has the right to the attempt.) If a 20 or more is achieved, the player avoids being struck, and if they are in possession of a Quaffle, a 25 or more must be had to prevent dropping it.

Additional Guidelines: Fouling, Injuries, and DQs

• Contact between players (such as one Chaser attacking another) is no longer permitted. Beaters have amply opportunities to ******** up other players.
• If any player (Seeker included) has been successfully struck by a bludger three times, they must retire from the game for their injuries.
• If a Seeker is knocked unconscious or too injured to continue, the game is officially over; the team with more points at that point in the game is the winner.
• If a game reaches 30 pages without a winner, the game is officially over; the team with more points at that point in the game is the winner.
• If one team goes three days (measured in Real Life time) without one of their players posting, they are disqualified and the other team wins.
