Today I bought a book on japanese idioms.
Usually I a practice these by writing them from the book on to a word document, but instead I thought I would share with you all the materials that I am studying.

Meaning: Life often brings misfortune in times of great happiness.
Translation: Blossoms bring storms.

Example Sentence:
A:kekkon shite isshuukan de kyuuni goshujin ga nyuuin to wa okinodoku nee.
B: shiawase ippai no tokoro ni zannen nee, demo maa "Hana ni arashi" to iu kurai da kara, kooyuu koto mo umei de shikata nai.

A: 結婚して一週間で急にご主人が入院とはおきのどくねえ！
B:　幸せいっぱいのところに残念ですね、でもまあ「花に嵐」と言うくらいだから、こうゆうこともうめいでしかたない。

A: It's too bad, only married a week and her husband has already been hospitalized.
B: Too bad, when she was so happy. But as they say, "Life often brings great misfortunes at times of great happiness." it's simply fate. You can't help it.

Imo [no ko] o arau yoo

Meaning: So crowded you can hardly turn around, jam-packed
mobbed with people.

Example Sentence:
A: shichigatsu gejun no nichiyoubi, natsuyasumi ni haitta no de, kodomozure no kazoku ga ooku, kaisui yokujoo wa imo [no ko] o arau yoo na konzatsuburi to natta.　

A: 七月下旬の日曜日、夏休みに入ったので、子どもずれの家族が多く、海水浴場は芋「の子」を洗うような混雑振りとなった。

A: Since it was sunday towards the end of July and summer vacation, there were a lot of familys with kids, and the beach was jam packed.

About the first one (with the sucking up): Now I understand why people look like they're grinding/mixing seeds into their palm when they say that. :p
