it's because trumpets are the base of a band's sound outside so there's less mic work involved plus we're just that good

lol...uh no? clarinets are the base of a band's sound. and even though that's true no one instrument section is more important than another.

Typical trumpet attitude. rolleyes lol ya what he said should only be expected from a trumpet player I personally think tubas (good tubas not crummy bad ones) are the base because they're the lowest instrument. they're the base of the chord. Trumpets generally are the top of the chord so technically tubas are the base of the band lol

KingDiamondFreak only trumpets get the solos (no offense or anythin)but they should let TUBAS get the solos we never do if you listen or play the song niagara falls by Michael Daugherty, there's an excellent tuba solo in there. you need a really strong player because from what I've heard, it goes kind of high for a tuba.

My band director gave our tuba player a solo once a few years back.

its probably because trumpets are high pitched. when people write music they do this because its a lot easier to recognize. example, in chorus sopranos get the main melody all the time with little(no) exceptions. In your band, your bd probably just happened to pick the songs with trumpet solos. There are a lot of musical scores where other instruments get solos, like the flutes. also in band you will hear low instruments with solos, like tubas, they don't always give it to high pitched instruments. Its just common.

ya that does make sense, and plus higher instruments can play over an ensemble easier, while lower instruments are more difficult to here no matter how loud you play them
