Metaplot- Human Settlement Location
This Metaplot story will make available the ability to be Bonded! Please read here about the Bonded.

You are encouraged to reply to this open roleplay. Humans in the settlement will react to the appearance of Pheidren and the news the Goddess brings to them.

The next step if you want to be bonded-->
If you are interested in bonding, you will need to start your own private roleplay with a partner and go from there. You will start off with each character somehow arriving at the decision to journey to Pheidren's temple where they will meet. Staff will post in your roleplay to detail what happens with Pheidren at the temple. Please see this thread for more details.

Some Rules

  • Need to find a bonding partner? See the special request thread sticky!

  • You obviously do NOT need a bonding partner to post in this thread! This thread is for any character's reaction to Pheidren's message.

  • You may post your own private RP threads in this forum as well during the event! After the event the threads will be moved to the general roleplay forum.

Pheidren Visits the Human Settlement

The Goddess Pheidren sighed with a deep sorrow. The humans had spread again, bringing their settlement into the heart of Voronwe lands. Enough! Her creatures would not flee even further. She could not bear to see them leave this Valley for good, not after they had felt so safe here. The Goddess stirred herself into a physical human form. She appeared with beautiful golden hair, delicate sandals and pure white feathered wings on her head and ankles. Elegant yellow tattoo markings contrasted with the Goddess's dark tan skin. Shimmering golden wings floated out behind her. She was something of a radiant glow in the dark woods.

Pheidren walked straight into the human settlement. People were thrown with fear and awe. They knew immediately that she was someone of power, they just did not know who or why. The crowd grew deathly quiet when Pheidren stopped and raised her hand.

The Goddess spoke to all who had gathered to listen. "I am Pheidren, I have been Goddess in these lands to the Voronwe. These creatures you have been seeing in the woods, these creatures you have been hunting.. they are wise and intelligent. I am appearing to you out of great sorrow." Her voice faltered, wavering with sadness. "These lands have long known peace. And you can be at peace here too, with the Voronwe. I have seen that I must extend my hand to you and show you how the future could be."

She lowered her right arm and as the hand dropped, a brilliant white Voronwe appeared at her side. The Goddess stroked it's head, the fur rippling and nearly glowing under her touch.

"There is nothing to fear, yet you have reacted the only way you know how. For your own survival. I know some of you will consider my words. I have so much more to grant you, the same gifts I have granted the Voronwe. Some of their kind are masters of the elements. If you find your spirit called, I will guide you to my temple."

With that, Pheidren and her Voronwe disappeared. The crowd was silent still for a long moment before they noticed the Goddess had left behind three Golden feathers from her wings on the ground. The human's voices rose and the crowd could not contain themselves as they tried to make sense of the amazing news.

User Image Anoi could feel her stomach complaining. It was time to take her lunch break. Most of her work at the stables was nearly complete for the afternoon already. The second she hit the main road in the settlement, she knew something was happening.

A rush of people had gathered up ahead. Her stomach dropped as she feared there was trouble. Nonetheless, Anoi's curiousity pulled her in. It didn't sound like a scuffle or anything like that. The crowd was deep but there was a large space in the middle. She couldn't quite make out what was going on yet, so she looked around the edge of the crowd for a better spot. Ah! Spying a large crate, the blond clambered up and crouched on top.

She nearly lost her balance at the sight! Anoi stared dumbfounded at the mysterious golden-winged figure.. and the creature at her side. That was the same type of animal she had seen in the woods with Renshu! Out there it had been so threatening, here with this female at its side the creature looked incredibly calm and vigilant. The stranger spoke and Anoi listened, enraptured by the words. A Goddess!

Something in her, guilt maybe, bubbled up. She had been afraid of this creature. And here it was with a Goddess and... Anoi shook her head. There was no need to feel guilty, she had never mistreated it. But she knew other humans had. This was unbelievable! They all knew stories of Gods intervening in the world, but she had never thought she would see the day that such a thing happened!

"This is some damn dream.." Anoi spoke aloud to no one in particular. The whole crowd was just starting to recover now and voices broke out all around as the Goddess left them.

Amarina had been busy with her new project; a pair of socks in a blue fabric. Autumn was fast approaching and with it she knew the cold would be. But the noise outside persistently grew louder, and she could no longer concentrate on her sewing. Standing, she slipped from her chair and out the door, clutching the doorway as she leaned toward the crowd in the center of town. "Now what's going on there..." She muttered to herself.

As she ventured from her home toward the commotion, she felt a stirring in her heart. A wisp of a voice, sweet, but seemingly sad reached her ears. The Voronwe? Those dog-things in the woods? Amarina had always known they were there, and she had doubted they meant harm, but to think they were intelligent like she was, was hard to believe.

As the Goddess vanished, she doubted her idea even more. They had a Goddess. They had the same things she did. "She has a point..." Amarina muttered. "We're in their territory...and we have no right to kill them no longer..." She smiled slightly, her voice quiet, as she spoke to herself more or less. "Personally, I wouldn't mind befriending them...they could teach us..."

Renshu had seen the whole thing. He'd been moving stock- as ever- very close to where the Goddess had said her piece; and been close to her. He had wanted to reach out, touch the shining creature by her side and feel sure that this was real, but had not dared- it had taken all his courage to face a Voronwe in the woods, let alone one tied to a Goddess. He felt the slightest smile tug his mouth at the whole thing.

I was right. They're more than dumb beasts- but I never imagined, never could have foreseen... As she disappeared, he felt his breath leave him in a rush and realise he had been holding it. Hitching another one deep in his chest and holding it there, he reached out a shaking hand and picked up a feather. It lay in his tan palm, shining golden in the sun.

He bit his lip and looked around, completely overwhelmed. His eyes suddenly noticed a familiar face in the crowd- Anoi, the woman he'd seen the Voronwe with, standing on one of the crates he had been unpacking. He slipped through the crowd, pushing more than he usually would, until he stood near her.
"Anoi!" he said, loudly enough to get her attention but not loud enough to cut through the hushed, shocked silence of the crowd.

Anoi continued to stare and watch the crowd until she heard a familiar voice behind her. She had just been thinking, naturally, of the time she had seen the Voronwe in the forest with Renshu. Maybe he had been right afterall, the b*****d! But Anoi's opinion wasn't changing. They could have been hurt, even if all of these things were true. Right? Humans were sentient, had Gods, and they sure as hell hurt each other. Animals hurt each other. No reason, just because this Goddess appeared, that they should not be cautious about this news. Not every human was swayed by a supernatural being. Anoi was wiling to bet that these 'Voronwe' did not all think nor behave the same either. She was staunchly staying skeptical.

"Damn!" She huffed and glared down at Renshu in surprise. Was that a feather? Like the Goddess's? She gestured down at his hands, "I guess this wasn't a dream." Anoi shook her head. She didn't feel she needed to say anything specific. He was probably thinking about their encounter too.

It was only pure luck that had Ki'Than in the settlement; he had been selling some skins and replenishing his arrows when the whole thing had unfolded near enough to the merchants for him to catch it. He had watched, his mouth agape, the last of the skins they'd been haggling over left in the store, forgotten by both hunter and merchant.
Some seemed in awe; others suspicious. Ki'Than... was angry. Snarling, he pushed his way through the crowd to stand in the centre, where to Goddess had appeared. He raised his voice and called to the crowd, gesturing angrily, his bangs flying around his face and his long braid moving with every angry head movement.

"Are we just gonna swallow the words of some random self-proclaimed goddess? Our cattle has been found slaughtered and people have gone missing; and there're few predators out there other'n these... voronwe able to do such things. They're not exactly pushin' for peace if they even are sentient!
"This goddess appears here," he continued, slowly turning so he was facing different sections of the crowd, "claimin' to be the goddess of these lands- does that make our gods unwelcome? She expects us to go to her temple, and abandon our gods and our need for self-defense as the voronwe kill our animals and even people! If we try to be peaceful when they will not, it's not peace- it's tyranny! We'll be ruled over by a bunch'a animals who'll kill our livestock, our people, an' I know there's several of us who came out here to get away from situations like that!"

He let his hands drop to his sides and spoke in a voice that held less anger, and even a trace of sadness. "I ain't sayin' we should go out of our way to attack 'nless we have to. But we need to defend what we've built, what we've made. An' experience says we need to defend it- an' it'd be stupid to let down our guard to a bunch of animals that've killed before."

"For one who spends his time in the woods you are not very in touch with the spirits," a soft voice spoke from the edge of the crowd. Erasto, the woodland artist, stepped forward with a small frown. He ran a hand through his white hair and sighed. How could this man speak such words when they had just been given a great gift. Perhaps not everyone had been touched by a spirit such as himself. He approached the hunter, but he hardly looked as if he were ready to fight. Erasto looked to the crowd and spoke with gentle passion.

"She never spoke that she was the only goddess here. She merely said she was the goddess to the amazing creatures that roam the lands. Good people, I have lived in the woods for years and I have worshiped the god of the woods. She has not punished me for such things. Nor have I been attacked by these 'vicious' creatures." He sent a look to the hunter before he continued to speak.

"Just as the wolf and bear hunts for its food so do these animals. Do not the wolf and bear kill our live stock too? Perhaps we should just kill anything that eats meat so we can be the only creatures that matter. That is just completely selfish. And how can you prove it was the voronwe who killed the people?"

He walked over to where the feathers lay, "All this great lady asked of us was to stop the destruction of her creatures and, should we feel the spirit's pull, to journey to her temple for enlightenment. How is that a threat?" He posed this question to the hunter before him.

Ki'Than snarled. "The wolves and bears mostly steer clear of the settlement- you should know that, if you live in the forest! There's been far more sightin's of these Voronwe close to the settlement than any other predator- it's natural to assume they're the culprits. As fer how what she said is a threat-" Ki'Than turned to the darker-skinned man, getting very close to him- "I think death of our people and the animals we raise is something of a threat, ain't it?"

He turned away from the other man, either speaking to himself or to the crowd. "I'm not sayin' we should slaughter them all- but we should be cautious, and not let our guard down jus' 'cause some vision tells us we should! Caution ain't selfish- it's just plain smart, an' it's kept us alive this long!"
