C a d e n c e x M i l l e r

Cadence frowned and looked up at the ceiling. She too, heard the creaking flooboards and wondered who could possibly be up there. She gripped the counter and tilted her head to the side as she thought and speculated what could possibly be up there. Since the house seemed a bit old, she passed it off as maybe a mouse or something. Thankfully, she wasn't squeamish about that sort of thing, she had lived with enough of them to care less. She was snapped out of her reverie at the sound of the redhead's voice. Looking him in the eyes, she noticed he didn't push the sound off as carelessly as she had. She watched as he made his way to the stair case. Cadence found herself following behind him, but stopping at the foot of the stairs. She watched as he disappeared at the top of the stairs and wondered what he could have possibly seen up there. Tilting her head to the side, she couldn't hear anything, other than the sound of his voice. Backing away from the steps, Cadence sat down on a stool in the kitchen and rested her hands in her lap.

Cadence chewed on her bottom lip as she waited for him to return. Finally, he reappeared and Cadence breathed a sigh of relief. She didn't know what was in that house, or who, for that matter. She thought it best to stay on high alert, at least for the time being. She had no idea whether the note was legit or not and was going to stay on her guard until she found out. For all she knew, they were just luring disturbed kids to this house to be killed, or tortured even more than they were. Cadence tapped her chin as he spoke. "Do you want to check it out?" She had meant the both of them. Sliding from her seat on the stool, she walked over to the staircase and looked up. It would be scary, in her opinion, to look up there by yourself. She had no idea what was in the house, and until they found out what it was for sure, she wasn't going to get much sleep. Then again, she wouldn't have slept well in the first place. One: She had finally run away from the house. Two: She was sure no one was after her.. yet. Three: She was staying with other people who had gone through a lot of things like her. Four: She was staying in a new and creeping house.

RIKA KOMORI

Rika shivered when she opened her bedroom window. The cool air quickly invaded her entire room. Rika bit her lip gently as she peered outside. After deciding the best course of action, she went back into her room to get her bag. A minute later there was a soft thud from the bag landing on the ground below. Rika paused to listen for any sign of life from her parents room before she attempted to climb out. After getting half of her body out the window, she slipped her other leg out while trying to ease herself into a hanging position. It didn't work out exactly as planned since her hand lost its grip on the windowsill. Rika let out a soft yelp as she fell. "Itai..." she whispered after her bottom landed on the cold ground, little prickles of grass seemed to pierce her skin. Of course she was wearing pants, but the blades of dead grass felt razor sharp. Rika wiped herself off as she stood up. After a quick look around, she picked up her bag and ran out of her yard. When she reached the sidewalk, she stopped for a moment to look back at the place she called home for the last few years. Her parents didn't seem to wake up from the noise. Even if they did, they would have gone back to sleep. After all, she has always did what they wanted. In fact, they never argued. Rika knew that they would be worried when they woke up to find her gone. That is why she left a note on her desk. The note was held down so the wind from the open window wouldn't blow it away. It was a short and simple note that merely stated why she left, that she would be okay, and that she would come back. In reality, there was no guarantee that she would be safe or ever come back, but she felt like it would be okay. With a small smile she turned to walk down the sidewalk.

After a while, Rika made it to the train station. Even though it was a bit hard to find; she managed alright. There was no one waiting around, but it was an odd hour so she didn't think anything of it. In order to kill time, she pulled out the mysterious note that she found earlier. The whole thing seemed surreal to her. The letter was so puzzling that she couldn't help but accept the offer. When do you get something like this? For most people; probably never. In reality, she didn't understand why the person would pick her. After all, her life was pretty normal. Her parents might have cared a bit too much about her grades and activities, but they were loving. Then again, she has been itching for a change. Hell, deciding something on her own and actually doing it was new for her. Rika folded the paper and put it into her pocket as the train pulled up. After finding a place to settle in the empty compartment, she let her mind wander. Who was this M character anyway? A male or female? A chuckle escaped her lips. It was almost like something out of a movie. It reminded her of the boss that ordered James Bond around. A big smile appeared on her face as the train started.

While on the train, no one came to check on her. It was like a ghost train. Rika wasn't really paying attention to that though. Her mind was making up a secret agent scenario. What if this was a test to find the correct person to do M's dirty work? There had to of been other people that got the same generic letter she did. Would they all follow the instructions? It didn't take long for her thoughts to switch to where she was headed. What will the place look like? Oh, there could be training grounds. They all could be trained in secret arts. What if we all had to be tortured at some point? Oh! Magic might even be involved. Rika let out a hearty laugh as her imagination ran away with itself. Finally, after becoming close to the other people that answered the mysterious letter; they would have to battle each other to get the ultimate spot. That wouldn't be cool, but maybe that would be the only way to pick a leader. The person would lead the rest, based on M's orders, to help humanity in its time of turmoil. Or maybe destroy the idiots of society. What kind of person would she become? The possibilities were endless! For the whole rest of the trip, she was thinking up different scenarios that led to different outcomes.

Before she knew it, the train came to a halt at another station. Rika looked around as if she were in a daze before standing up. Without another thought, she picked up her bag and bounded off the train. As she walked away from the train she spotted a limo making its way to the station. A small smile spread across her face before she spoke out loud. "Ara...omoshiroi." Two beady eyes peered out of the window when the limo stopped before her. "Komori?" A rough voice called out to her. "That's me!" Rika responded and smiled after he told her to get in. Ah the mystery of it all was exciting. It didn't take long for the limo to reach its destination. After she got out of the limo, she stood there for a moment to take in the site of the mansion before her. In her opinion, it looked a bit weird. Then again, she hasn't been in America long enough to get a look at all of the type of buildings that existed in the country. When her eyes shifted to the attic window she thought she saw someone walk by. It could have been someone that was already here, or a figment of her imagination. Whatever the case may be, she didn't ponder about it for very long. The wind crept up the sleeve of her coat, making her shiver. That was her cue. Time to go see what awaited her within the mansion. When she reached the door she gave it a couple of solid knocks. Before anyone had a chance to answer, she wrapped her tiny fingers around the handle and slowly opened the door. Her head poked around the door so she could see inside. "Hello!?" Rika said in a slow manner. No one responded so she just let herself in and closed the door behind her. Well, it wasn't like she gave anyone a chance to respond. Her brown eyes slowly scanned the room she was in before she focused on the people that were nearby.
