Entry: Prompt 1
Rumble.
The sound was enough to distract Aeronwen from what she was doing. With a slight grumble, she heaved herself up onto her small legs, scales rubbing together comfortably as she moved. Her belly always grumbled just when she was having the most fun. It wasn't fair. Throwing her head up, she shook it in an emotion very similar to anger. She loved having fun, and didn't like to be distracted, especially when she was making pictures!
With a last look at the sketch she'd made on the ground, she dropped the small stick that she held in her mouth. Another sudden rumbling sound from her belly made her start. She must have been really hungry. Maybe I should find mother? she thought, her mouth watering at the thought of some nice, warm milk.
Tossing her head around, she scanned around quickly and decided it wasn't worth it. It would take too long to find her, and she'd only get even hungrier. Although the foal loved having fun just as much as her mother, she'd acquired a sharp temper somewhere along the way too. Maybe I should do what all the grown ups do? Then I'll look big and strong and brave. They like to nibble on berries and grass, and small insects and stuff. Or at least mama does, daddy only eats squishy green stuff, not anything living.
Raising her muzzle delicately in the air, she breathed in as she'd seen them do. The usual smells of the forest flooded into her nose. Nothing particularly tasty. With a resigned sigh, she dropped her head and took an experimental chew on the grass. It felt weird as it slithered down her throat, almost waxy, and had a dry under-taste to it. She wrinkled her nose in apparent distaste. Why did they all like it?
Pausing, she decided she'd look for something with a little more bounce to it. Sure, plants were edible, but that didn't mean she liked them that much. Her eyes darted around as her tail wagged behind her joyfully. It was time for a hunting expedition! That would be fun, and would make up for her ruined picture. Her stomach let out another impatient growl. She'd have to hurry.
A small insect scurried by in front of her. Eyes shining, she darted forwards, teeth clamping around its small body. Crunch! She felt a sweet taste fill her mouth as her teeth cracked the shell that encased the bug. Now that was something she didn't mind eating. Oddly, she had a feeling that she probably should not tell her parents how much she liked insects. Her daddy was a Sylrin, after all. And her mama just ate regular stuff, like a normal Kirin.
Aeronwen shook her head. How silly. Didn't her daddy realize how tasty bugs were? As for everyone else, she didn't notice anything particularly odd about their diets either. A sudden though flickered into her mind. What if I'm allowed to eat things bigger than insects? I've never tried. That thought led to another, as foal's thoughts tend to do. I wonder what I'd taste like.
The idea was knew to her. Surely it would be odd to eat another Kirin. After all, her parents didn't eat each other. The thoughts made her shudder. Why should she even want to eat others? She tried to picture herself eating her parents, or a sibling. Her mouth dropped open in horror as tears filled her eyes. She couldn't! She wouldn't! Her small legs shook in fear. No. No way. She wouldn't eat them, she loved them!
The little foal was terrified by now. Why was she thinking such horrible things? Maybe all Kirindae did, and it was normal. Maybe that was why some, like her daddy, specifically ate only plants. Her stomach began to churn uncomfortably. Panic filled her eyes, she didn't want to eat anyone!
As another insect flew into view, her thoughts sidetracked. She instinctively lunged and caught it in her mouth. Her teeth clamped down again, and she sighed in relief as the taste washed over her mouth again. Her thoughts calmed down slightly. It would be okay.
She couldn't eat anyone, that was for sure, but she wasn't hurting anyone by eating a couple of lousy bugs. Of course, she'd be careful to eat more plants as well. As her stomach growled again, Aeronwen eyes the grass dubiously. Very hesitantly, she dipped her head and began to gulp down clumps of grass as fast as possible. Suddenly, the taste didn't seem so bad. Maybe it just took some getting used to, although she couldn't say she liked it either.
She let out a sigh of relief and slowly slowed down her frantic gulping. She didn't want a stomach ache either! Once she felt reasonably full, she stopped. Now that the horrifying task was over, she could have fun again! She rose onto her back legs, waving her forelegs up in the air as she reared from joy, before suddenly crashing down and switching the weight onto her front legs, bucking in joy.
A race would be great right now!

Entry: Sort of prompt 1, and sort of prompt 3.
Caelius stood, wobbly, beside his mother, slowly eating some of the soft spring leaved. While mild in flavor, he was dissatisfied with them. He looked up at his mother with a pleading look, but she simply shook her head and reached up to nibble at some higher leaves. A few unripened fruits showered around him. Caelius gave them a disdainful sniff and licked one, backing away from the bitter taste. Isis seemed amused by her colt’s actions, but still didn’t offer any milk. So Caelius looked from his mother to the others in the growing herd. He spotted his father’s tail in the distance. He seemed busy. Then he spotted his uncle, gnawing on what looked like a small twig. “Abhy uncle!” The boy trotted over to the older male and looked up at him. His little tail twitched and swatted a fly away. “Is that any good?” Abhyagni looked at the boy.
“Gets the job done.” Short and to the point. Caelius didn’t expect anything less from his uncle. He looked up at the bushes near Abhyagni, and slowly started gnawing on a stick, trying to break it off the plant. Abhyagni watched him and rolled his eyes. “Tough?”
“It’s kind of chewy.” He replied before giving up on the twig. His little teeth weren’t quite to the point he could easily get through the tough bark of even the softer twigs. “I can’t seem to find anything good... Hey! Share your food with me?” The little boy started prancing around his uncle who at first, tried ignoring him, then tried walking away. Caelius was persistent till Abhyagni flicked his tail, snapping Caelius in the nose. The child shook it off and pranced after his uncle. But Abhyagni had turned his attention to something else. Disappointed that once again, he had to find his own food, Caelius hopped over into some low foliage and stepped on something. The boy nudged it with a small hoof. It was a squirrel, and seemed to have been dead for some time. He’d seen things eat small animals before. Owls grabbed up rodents like this. Maybe these tasted good?
Lowering his head, Fin took a tentative bite. It was a little stale. Maybe starting to rot. But it wasn’t too bad. Using his front hoofs to hold down the little critter, Caelius would nibble at the decaying meat until he heard a startled cry.
“What are you eating?” Caelius looked up sheepishly, part of the squirrel dangling from his mouth.
“Food.” It was obvious, wasn’t it?
