A Change of Seasons

Why:

Because it's just totally awesome. It has been my favourite DT song for a while now. I love thw whole song, the build up, the melodies, the lyrics, the epicness of it. It's 23 minutes of pure musical bliss. Every instrument comes together and feeds off each other producing some of the best harmonies and melodies I've ever heard. The solos are mindblowing, epic and technical but still with a lot of soul and they never get boring. LaBrie is amazing, from his strong emotional moments to those aggressive parts where he lets loose and kicks a**. It is one of the most perfect songs ever recorded and something that is just truely amazing.

don't flame me. read everything first.

my fav: I Walk Beside You
why: personal reasons. it's a song my boyfriend dedicated to me when we were having problems. our relationship was half dead since it's not easy to be 13'000 kms away from the one you love. but we've managed to fix everything, now we're happier than ever before and soon we will be together again. i know he does and will always walk beside me and he can say the same about me.

i've met many people flaming me and calling me a stupid b*tch since in their opinion this song sucks and is not special. well, for me it is.

I always liked I walk beside you. When I first got Octavarium it was my favourite song on it. Dream Theater are the heaviest band I listen to though, so I suppose it's the heavy metal fanatics that don't like it.
I love the soaring vocals against the melancholy music. I like emotional songs much more than heavy ones.

I know what you mean about the flaming thing. sad Everybody's like "OMG u2 ripoff!" but I really like the song. It's warming and heartfelt. I also really like The Answer Lies Within which feels like a warm hug on a rainy day. :3

I have three, and I can't seem to decide on them, so I'll use all three 3nodding

The first one in mind would have to be In the Name of God from Train of Thought. The lyrics are so powerful, being about religions that kill, yet think God has their backing (Muslims, Catholics, Protestants, etc.). The riffs are also very solid, especially at the beginning, with the really crunching sound. And then there's the chorus, which is my favorite part:

"Listen when the prophet speaks to you
killing in the name of God
Passion twisting faith into violence
In the name of God"

It's just an all-around awesome song, that definitely has my attention. And then add the fact that it ends on the "F" note on the piano, which is where Octavarium starts. xd

My second choice would have to be Panic Attack from Octavarium, definitely. It's another very powerful song. You can tell that's where the album really starts to pick up, because the first half was really much calmer, then on song five, with a heavy song like Panic Attack, it just kicks you in the a**. My favorite part of the song would definitely have to be:

"Run, try to hide
Overwhelmed
By this complex delerium"

Because it just sounds so haunting, and so desperate to get away from the personal demons that are plaguing the person in the song.

My final favorite is definitely Octavarium itself, in its 24 minutes of glory. The song starts with that 5 minute intro to get you started for the song, then goes into that acoustic part, and then, part one starts. The lyrics are so depressingly haunting at the beginning, then as the song progresses, it gets more aggressive. My favorite sections of the song are parts 3 because of the lyrical content, and song 4 because the intervals represent each song on the album, plus the "TRAPPED IN-SIDE THIS OC-TA-VA-RI-UM!" part just gives me chills.

Andy Warhol said everybody gets their 15 Minutes of Fame. Well, Dream Theater's fame hasn't stopped yet.

Octavarium because it's a 24 minute musical orgasm.

For me, it's a toss-up between In The Presence of Enemies and Learning to Live. From two totally different albums, yet they both blow me away every time I hear them.

I've updated mine, and it's pretty simple.

'Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence.'

I'm a sucker for songs with ungodly lengths (40+ minutes), plus I'm a sucker for symphonic arrangements that accompany a Rock or Metal ensemble, and the title track to their 2002 album has both. The song is probably their magnum opus, possibly second only to the 'Metropolis' story ('The Miracle and the Sleeper'+SFAM), and it's so well put together that you can't help but wonder what the hell Dream Theater was thinking, going from something like that to the pile of crap known as ToT.
