The last couple of weeks, I've been trying to finally go vegan.
But for things like bread, do you make your own or buy a certain kind or just not eat it?

i don't recall what brand of bread we have. we shop at whole foods a lot, though. just make sure that you are familiar with the basics of non-vegan ingredients. for example, most breads don't have any animal byproducts except for whey, so just buy breads that don't have whey in them. a lot of intro to vegan cookbooks and such have lists of common animal products, as well as brands you can buy that are vegan. here is a pretty good list of non-vegan stuff you may find in foods: http://www.vegfamily.com/lists/animal-ingredients.htm

Sub-catagories bother me.
Honestly, just say "I don't eat red-meat." or whatever.

I'm a vegetarian. I chose to stop eating meat, because I've never enjoyed it. As far back as I can remember, I've always been uneasy eating meat. I'd sometimes go without meals or avoid eating at whatever costs just beacause I didn't like the idea of it. Lead to health problems. So I had to start eating it again. But now, since I'm in my later teens I took it upon myself to make responsible decisions about what I eat, and for me, that meant no more meat.

PETA never influenced me in anyway. It was personal for me.

I don't know much about Mad Cow and Bird Flu, but I do know that it's not to get the bird flu by eating infected birds.

mad cow's different because it's actually spred by a protein and not a microbe or bacteria; it can't be killed by being properly cooked, wheras avian flu can.

Thank you a bunch for this, I gave up the internet for a while or else I would have responded way earlier.
Alot of the ingredients mentioned on that site I was really unaware of, it helped alot.

Last night I told my parents I am trying veganism and they laughed in my face and talked down at me for half an hour. They are so unsupportive!!! stare

I'd never heard of freegans before, I guess I'm somewhat of a semi-freegaterian. I only buy organic meat, but I'll eat it out of respect for people if they've invited me over.
