last year we had a German exchange student who was a world class oboe player... They got her to march with clarinet and play oboe in concert season... She got along really well with some of the students, so it was fun.
This year we have a Russian exchange student who played piano, so our bd taught her sax. (Yeah... that's random, i don't get it. I think she should have just played the marimba) But she's really nice as well, and she gets along well with most of the students... Talks to just about everybody.
So, exchange students are just like other, normal students. Get along with some people, not with others. Hope you find one or two that you like!

I am one! I came here during the start of the summer last year from Rozenheim, Bavaria (in Germany). Band is the best because even if you don't speak the same language in person, it comes out in your music. Everyone is very kind and they ask many questions about German music and composers and orchestras- the orchestra teacher let me meet her violin/viola students we all got along well. Victoria is my favorite because she is amazing heart Besides me, there is Niko (Greece), Phillipp (Germany), Katie (England) and Czeslawa (Poland). We all get along with the other band students and love our band- go band!

We have an Austrian. He plays trumpet and is AMAZING!!! He can play a Super G. Emil is the coolest. He also marched, which was super awesome! I'll miss him so much when he's gone.

there are currentley no exchange students in the band at the moment, but my BD told us a story of one. so she had come from Japan and was a saxophone (i think). the BD is conducting and then he sees the girl crying. so he stops and tells everyone else to work on a part of the song to pull the attention away from her. so he goes over to her and asks her whats wrong. she looks up at him and says that all day she barely understood what anyone was saying. she said that there, at band, she understood, she actually felt that she fit in and wasn't just the new exchange student. so it was sweet and nice and i almost cried when he told us about it. heart it was so sweet.

Right now, there is a German exchange student in our band. His name's Marc, and he is an amazing percussionist. He played quads during the marching season, and everyone loved him. Next year, our BD told us that there is a girl in the high school who is requesting to host an exchange student who would join the band.

We haven't had exchange students when I was in high school band, but there was one student who had just moved to America from Korea. She actually quit a few days into marching season, though.

We had an exchange student for a few weeks back during marching season. She was a flautist from Germany. She was supposed to march with us for one game before she went back to Germany, our last game of the season, and unfortunately that game got rained out. Not only did our seniors not get their senior night, but the exchange student girl (I forgot her name...xD;; wink didn't get to experience a football game with an american marching band. At least she got to reherse with us. :]

Last year, we had one from Korea, he played alto saxophone and he was REALLY GOOD... but he didn't try. So he always just barely made it to first. And never showed up to concerts.
This year we have two. One from Hong Kong and another from Japan. The Japanese girl plays flute and she's one of the best there. She's also really nice. So it's fun. The boy from Hong Kong is fun to be with and plays trombone but he's a little rusty.
It's not really awkward. Being in band... I'm pretty sure what THEY see is more awkward. xDDD

We had a German girl and a Korean girl, and the Korean girl played flute. I'm pretty sure the German girl played keyboards in marching band until their host abandoned them, then she quit, but the Korean girl was still in concert band.
Then a few years ago, we had a German girl who played keyboards in marching band, but she was a b***h.
