Xiu nodded; agreeing with Rong Wei that standing around and talking was probably not the best of options seeing that she was in the midst of walking to her place of work and he was supposed to have taken care of lunch. However the woman’s next question was interesting in itself and this made Xiu thoughtful.
“Taking care of myself? I guess not…at least, not currently,” said Xiu slowly. “There is still much to learn from this world and without a home, we’d be in big trouble from many things such as nature and…other humans,”
Although he had never been attacked by humans himself due to his ability to see if a person was up to mischief, the advice given by Rivener, an older raevan was still fresh in his memory. It was a simple advice but one that was sound. They were raevans; and being a raevan meant that some humans might take an interest in them; an unhealthy interest…
“Our guardians, they provide us with shelter and teach us what is right and…what is wrong,” said Xiu eyeing Rong Wei keenly. “If I had not been cared for and taught, what is to prevent me from…draining you completely of your innocence?”
Not that Xiu would have done it anyway but it was an interesting argument.

She always considered herself quick on the uptake when it came to most things, commonplace things like chores or card games or whatever else, but for some reason no matter how hard Rong Wei tried she couldn't seem to understand what Xiu had said about striping her of her innocence.
How the hell is that possible?
"Look, I don't think I have any innocence for you to take even if you wanted to or where trying to. This body and soul is pretty soiled by the deeps I've done, a fact I don't regret in the least."
Rong Wei placed a hand on her chest, over her sternum with fingers splayed in a dramatic manner, and she frowned at this strange Beast. How could something eat something that wasn't naturally made? Granted she knew that whatever Xiu was, a Raeven he had said, made him non-human and therefore he didn't need to abide by human rules. But did that make it so he didn't need to eat in the way humans did, instead turning to other things for nutrition?
Oh, how she wanted to ask, but that would be a waste of her third question, which was still trying to ferment in the back of her mind.
"Also, I seriously doubt you're the type to go around and do really shitty things to people. I don't even know you at all other then a name and perhaps what the hell you are, but you can't be evil."

“You may think so but…no one has ever had all of their innocence taken away from them,” said Xiu good humouredly. It was true about what the woman had said though. Compared with some others, this human was a poor feed and taking away what was left of her innocence would be bad for her. However, Xiu decided not to let the other in on this bit of information but allowed himself to be questioned further. It was interesting really. By answering all of these questions, not only was Xiu helping this woman understand what raevans are but also reinforcing what he knew about his kind.
"Also, I seriously doubt you're the type to go around and do really shitty things to people. I don't even know you at all other then a name and perhaps what the hell you are, but you can't be evil."
“Oh?” said Xiu smiling a little. “And why is that, Ms. Hu?”

"Pfft, you just haven't met someone yet who's entirely soiled. You're probably still young, what with you having to have someone care for you, so the real ways of the world aren't open to you just yet. When the time comes and you learn to see more of mankind then just what is shown know, you'll find that you were wrong."
Rong Wei shifted her weight slightly, changing how she was standing so that her legs didn't appear to be locked anymore, and her overall posture seemed to be more relaxed. Normally she hated talking to people, or talking in general without it being swearing over someone not feeding right or cheating, but talking to this half-formed thing didn't seem to bother her. It was keeping her away from another day at a job she hated and therefore would provide her with a good excuse as to why she showed up late (if she went at all).
"Hmm? Oh, why I think you're not evil is my own reasoning, mostly because of how you're talking and acting around me. Those with want of ill intentions towards others may have slick tongues and charming smiles, but that's about all they have. You never see an evil person helping someone out for free, never see them attempting to do something that would afford them redemption. You-"
She pointed at Xiu, almost to indicate her point. It was a stupid motion considering there was no one else around, but the Chinese woman did it anyway.
"You helped me find my glasses when they fell when most people would not. Now I'm not saying people being jackasses and avoiding helping a stranger makes them evil because it doesn't, just means they're rude and need to rot somewhere dark, I'm saying it means you've got something in you that compels you to do things for others when it appears you have nothing to gain. Unless of course, you're going to eat that innocence or whatever, which makes you no less evil but more like a vampire."
What the hell was she saying now? This is why Rong Wei needed a cigarette, something she hadn't even thought of pulling out all this time. A cigarette would shut her up, certainly.

“Oh dear…so that would mean…I failed at being evil,” said Xiu trying his best to look disappointed but clearly failing at it. After a minute or so of feigned sadness, Xiu let out a hearty laugh. “ I like you, Ms. Hu. I truly do,” said Xiu as he smiled at the Chinese lady before him. “No one that I have met have had such an attitude as you do and it seems to come quite naturally,”
“However,” said Xiu looking at Ms.Hu curiously. “If you’d humour me with an answer. What is a vampire? I’ve heard it mentioned in my presence before but…I had not put much thought into it until you mentioned it a second ago,”

"It depends on what myth you want to hear from. They're all basically the same, what a vampire does, but the lore is different from each country. The Chinese have their hopping vampires, the English have their Count Dracula, and more recently some stupid thing trying to pass off as a vampire though it sparkles."
Rong Wei shuddered, daring not to go on about that subject. She read a lot in her free time at the nail parlor, which was common during the times kids were in school and there were no dances or weddings coming around, so it wasn't that unheard of for her to be caught up on more modern literature; a fact she regretted sometimes.
"According to myth vampires are monsters with the form of humans who feed on the blood of the living. They usually only go after the innocent who more often then not are virgins, and they either drain them of all their blood until they die or they turn them into a vampire as well."
The Chinese woman did little motions with her hands a she tried to explain it, as if she were telling a child what a vampire was. She felt stupid for doing so but found that she was moving without thinking and it actually helped to accent her point.
"That's the basic myth of them anyway. Some legends say zombies can have vampires tendencies too, with their want of flesh actually a thirst for blood, and other legends say things like faeries are vampires in the way they feed off youth and innocence. Basically, a vampire is anything that preys on another and takes something from them without giving in return. A parasite, of sorts."

Xiu nodded as he listened intently to what the Chinese lady was telling him and smiled appropriately at the statement regarding a sparkling vampire. So, it is not right for a vampire to sparkle but perfectly fine for it to hop? This bit of information regarding vampiric traits tickled the raevan. Humans had such a way of classifying things to the point of absurdness at times.
However, as Rong Wei moved on from what differentiates one vampire from another to a vampire’s feeding habit, the white frei was all ears. So vampires were creatures that took something from the living in order to sustain themselves. Xiu could very well relate to that but…the frei was not too happy about the part where nothing was given back to the victims; and the part about being called a parasite.
A slight flick of grey wings indicated this as the frei listened to the other’s explanations. Despite the slightly exaggerated hand movements, the Chinese woman was doing well in her explanation and the frei nodded from time to time. Lunch, it would seem, was delayed yet again.
“But these…things, they aren’t real are they? I mean…things like that do not exist outside the world of fiction right?” asked Xiu not realizing the irony of the question itself. He was, after all, something one would only read about in a science fiction novel but the thought had never crossed the young raevan’s mind.

"Well, that depends. There's an mammal called the Vampire Bat, which is a beast that feeds on the blood of the living. It's only active at night as well so that's how it got its name."
The woman thought hard, trying to remember anything else she might have known. She was feeling kind of smug with how much information she seemed to be providing this strange creature, a feeling she rather liked from time to time, and so Rong Wei continued.
"Some humans actually drink blood too, but they're not really vampires. Most of them do it because they have a mental disorder in their minds that make them think that without blood something bad will happen. So, in a roundabout way to answer your question - yes. There's no such thing as vampires..unless of course you turn out to be one. Then I'll just...need to get a new set of clothing or something."

Xiu laughed softly at the suggestion that he might actually be a vampire. “I’m afraid not Ms. Hu. I do not …sparkle for one,” said Xiu with a soft chuckle “…and neither do I drink blood. That’d probably get rather messy with the victim struggling and all; not that I’d attempt it in the first place,” added Xiu quickly for fear that the other might think otherwise. “If anything, I’d say that I’m pretty harmless,”
“But why a new set of clothing?” asked Xiu quizzically. “Vampires do not attack people in new clothes? Or were you meaning that if I happened to be a vampire and attacked you in front of all these people, you’d have to change your clothes because of the spilt blood which…if what you have told me about vampires are true, should be the least of your problems shouldn’t it?” said Xiu with a slight tilt of his head. “ I mean…you’d either be dead or…a vampire youself,”

Rong Wei decided not to explain in detail why she'd need new clothing, most people would have understood and even laughed at the little joke, but the naive nature of her companion seemed to indicate he had no earthly idea and far be it from her to try and ruin him this early into their meetings. Perhaps if they met again she would let him know what she meant, in more ways than one.
"You do appear to be harmless but appearances can be deceiving. A person's actions and personality far outweigh what they look like, since you can't always judge a book by its cover."
Did she just use two quotes in a single quip? That was some serious skill there though it also made Rong Wei feel like she couldn't think of anything to say on her own.
"For example, when you look at me what do you see other than a short Chinese woman?"

“You are not short,” said Xiu. “You are just…petite,”
“And what I can see is…,” continued Xiu as he scrutinised Rong Wei “Is a rather lively and fearless fair skinned human who has no qualms about speaking her mind and does not take cheek from others. Apart from that, I also see a rather intelligent being who reads although said being has a tendency to be cynical at times. I am also aware that said human can’t see very well without the aid of her glasses and seem to derive some sort of pleasure from inhaling smoke from burnt paper stuffed with a potentially lethal cocktail of chemicals. Ummm…I hope I’m not…offending you?” enquired Xiu a little worriedly.

"You're not offending me, it's actually kind of refreshing to hear someone not bullshit you, most people would just lie and tell me what they think I want to hear and not really care if it is or isn't. I think you're probably being the most considerate thing I've ever met by telling it straight like that, and I've got to say that I don't begrudge you over it."
The corner of Rong Wei's mouth twitched slightly, it could have been a mere muscle spasm from her talking or it could have been an actual smile, but whatever it was it passed away quickly. Her usual scowl was etched into her features and one of her eyebrows twitched slightly, a motion that seemed to indicate she was growing impatient and either needed a smoke or needed to get moving. In reality both options were required of her as being late to her job was an understatement thanks to this little detour with a talking hallucination.
"Anyway, I've got to get going. I know it's probably rude to just walk off and not even say good-bye or 'let's meet again', but I've already wasted entirely too much time on you as it is and if I'm lucky I'll still have a job when I get to where I'm going. My boss isn't nearly as forgiving at this place as it is back home."
Her hands fished into her pockets for something or another, perhaps another cigarette or a piece of paper to write something down on, but when they came back empty she merely sucked her teeth and increased the depth of her frown...were it possible. Rong Wei shifted on her feet as hr body started to move in the direction of her destination, no other words being said to Xiu, and she cursed under her breath in Chinese as footsteps started to carry her further and further away from what she had hoped was a bad dream.
" . . . . "
She had gotten no more then about twenty steps away when she had the urge to turn and look back, thinking maybe she had lost something else at the spot where the Raeven floated, but instead she found herself looking for Xiu and trying to catch his eye in the small crowd that still bustled around the pair like ants on their way to and from a mound. When she spotted him, presumably where she had left him, a smirk crossed her lips and her left hand rose slightly from here hip where it had been resting.
"See you around, nightmare."
