Every day it was the same. The ones who didn't know thought she was cutting herself, and the ones who did know encouraged her to play as if she were. She wondered why nobody had called them yet. It was only a matter of time until somebody beside herself got hurt. Until then, life would go on as usual. Her teachers would stare at her pityingly but do nothing, the nurse would call the hospital for her if they got infected again, and her classmates would whisper behind her back about it why the teachers didn't do anything.

She sighed, reaching for her journal. Despite the pain in her hands and the clumsiness caused by the bandages, she wrote in her journal every day. Never about her hands, of course, but about... other things. Problems. She wasn't an unhappy child but there were so many things she felt just weren't right about her life.

Like the fact that she couldn't find her journal. She frowned, turning to actually look as she pawed through the flotsam and jetsam in her bag. "...oh, no..." She began pulling papers from the bag, setting them on her desk. It wasn't in there. "Oh please, God, please no..."

"Cassandra?" The study assistant stood up behind his desk. "Cassandra, is there a problem?"

"I... There's... Maybe." She shook her head miserably. "My journal isn't in my bag."

"Maybe you left it at home? Maybe you took it out yesterday to write about something?" His gaze flicked to her bandaged hands meaningfully.

"...Yes, but I put it back in my bag. I had it out in fourth period, before lunch. I think... I think somebody took it. I think they want to know why..." She gazed down at her hands miserably. It didn't matter that she didn't write about her hands. There were other secrets in her journal. They'd find out, they'd harrass or even attack her. She'd have to protect herself somehow. And then they'd find out how she hurt her hands.

It was only a matter of time until somebody beside herself got hurt.
