here's something to think about, in sweeney todd, humans are seen eating human parts cleverly concealed in pies. in greek mythology, humans are fed to the gods by tantalus, and to humans at least one time that i can think of. also, if you know the whole story, then you'll understand that the way todd's wife dies is like the way heracle's wife died, though not exactly

That was a pretty cool musical, I always like the twist end. I can't say that I see too much in common with Tantalus but maybe if there was deeper association between the way Tantalus feels and the way that Sweeney Todd does but I can't think of any. Tantalus cooked his own son and only Demeter ate the son's shoulder. Todd kills his wife in a much different way than Heracles, since he was driven crazy by Hera. Where as *spoiler* Sweeney thinks she's just an annoying beggar lady and slits her throat without second thought until later. *end spoiler*

I agree and Disagree Nightman. Todd had gone crazy the moment Lovett told him Lucy was dead. Which is the whole reason he started chopping people up. I can see the resemblance between him and Heracles. Hera drove Heracles mad on Purpose and Lovett might not have meant to drive him mad but she did intend for him to think Lucy was dead.

you cannot deny that it was obviously inspired by mythology, even the tragedy of it, the greek tragedians would have loved it i think. when i said the resembalence between the death of herc's family and todsds wife i simply meant the fact that they both *spoiler alert* killed their own wives, i didn't mean WHY they killed their wives and as for the human eating, it is human eating, the reason is irrelevant, even in the story, when you make the comparison. i only meant that both had human eating in them.

I didn't notice that before, but when I watch STtDBFS it does remind me of the old Greek tragedies. For some reason when you were talking about insiration from them I remembered when we were talking about tragedies in one of my history classes. It sort of makes me think of the Medea play or Oedipus a little but I dunno why. I guess it's the irony.

Yes and if I remember right, Both wives thought it was the only thing to do at the time. They both thought there was no other option.
