No Such Machine TINSTAAFL I'm suprised noone has mentioned Time Machine (one made in 2000s) though it only has a limited steampunk character throughout the movie sadly, since it eventually goes all sci-fi ish. I actually like the 1960 version better, though the pacing is slower than today's standard. The titular apparatus itself is a steampunk icon. While I'm thinking about it and while we're on the subject, did anyone see Journey to the Center of the Earth? I only saw the trailers and they didn't feel steamy at all. Damn shame, that. Journey to the Center of the Earth was a cute family movie, but did not have steam in it. It was not the book, it was a family that was using the book to find the center of the earth. Although this is not steampunk, the series has that mix of past and future, grungy element that alot of Steampunk has. Firefly. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde anyone? Or any of the Frankenstiens for that matter. What about the Pagemaster?

Love Firefly heart wait is that steampunk? i didnt read the posts before ezras just saw the word firefly and went woop!
Im actually surprised at how many of these films ive seen and not realised the steam punk side to them even though its glaringly obvious, but it was before i discovered it so i suppose i can be forgiven.
Um in the spirit of adding to the discussion the only thing remotely steampunkish i can think of right now is Doc Browns train in back to the future 3 rofl

As for games, again not true steampunk, but Banjo Kazooie games tend to have quite a few characteristics in my humble opinion. I have to say, I am glad someone mentioned that. Although, to be honest, the first Time Machine was way more Steampunk than the new version, not that I didn't appreciate it. And Yes, 'Kake, Firefly is very Steampunk-theme Sci-Fi. So too, is Outlaw Star.

Dear madame, you will, I trust, find that we of the steampunk persuasion are a singularly civil lot, perhaps even sickeningly so; to ridicule a personage who is new to the world of steam would be a dreadful breach in decorum, and the scoundrel who engages in such deplorable behavior would be held beneath contempt.

Steamboy is a good Anime Steampunk film. That actually got me started with the whole thing along with Time Machine.

I'm not too sure if these have been mentioned already but Eraserhead and Elepant Man by David Lynch have a steampunk-esque sort of film and that forgoten movie based on The Time Machine by H.G. Wells. I can't think of any others I have sen personallt at the moment or anymore decent ones anyway.

I would have to say...not very. More Dying Earth/post apocalyptic, thematically speaking.

Another i just found a trailer for is the film 9 Tim Burton is involved in it but its based on a short film by Shane Acker, anyhoo, it has a sort of steampunk feel to the trailer but again its more dying earth/post apocalypse/tiny freaky voodoo doll than actual steampunk. But it looks really interesting and i wanted to share biggrin
