Achat nodded. "Yes, I know the feeling. We would always leave an adult or two in the cave to watch over the little ones before we went out hunting." With an agonizing pang of loss, he remembered Sunstone. You should have stayed with Cart...I should've hunted for you--then I wouldn't have lost you both...Sunstone... He shook his head, determined to dislodge the look of sorrow on his face. "Lead me to it!" he said eagerly. "I haven't hunted well since I left the pack a few weeks ago."
A hunt was just the thing he needed to cheer up--a hunt and a new friendship. Maybe it would even go beyond friendship...maybe it would go deeper. I've been alone for too long. Sunstone would have liked to see me find someone new. I've been mourning her for ages. Time to let her rest in peace at last.

Ryuu smiled and nodded toward Achat before leading them to the drinking hole. It was only a short walk from where they had been so it didn't take them long to get there. Silently Ryuu scouted the area but couldn't see any deers but their were a lot of signs that they had been there recently.
"Well they may not be here but I think they might be close."

Achat followed her, scenting the air for any signs of prey. Deer. Birds. Rodents. The deer had indeed been there recently, to judge by their prints in the mud and their strong scent. "Shall we track them?" he asked Ryuu in a low voice. His stomach growled again and he smiled, lowering his nose to the tracks in the mud and following them back away from the watering hole.

Ryuu smiled back at Achat and nodded, letting him take the lead. It was nice hunting with someone for a change. Too many times she had to hunt to support three mouths and had no help. She didn't regret it but it had been hard so she was going to enjoy hunting with someone again, even if it was only for now.

Achat followed the scent of the deer through the woods on a narrow deer path that was beaten well enough to show that it was well-used by the local wildlife. When was the last time I hunted with a girl I had a crush on? How many years? Sunstone, I hope you don't mind, but I think I've found someone new for me...if she's interested in me, anyway. Achat stopped as he scented the deer up ahead. He quickly hid in the undergrowth, waving his tail to indicate that Ryuu do likewise. "Do you know how to do this?" he asked her in a very low voice.

Ryuu crouched down next to Achat so that their sides where barely touching. At his question, Ryuu just rolled her eyes. Replying in the same low teasing voice, "Well I have been caring for myself and others for a while now, and in that time I have hunted, so yes I know how to do this...do you?"

Achat chuckled and shook his head. "Sorry, Ryuu, I know it's a stupid question. Hard to take care of other dragons if you can't hunt..." He flicked his tail at her and grinned, creeping forward until the deer were in sight. He scanned the herd, looking for an easy target. "What do you think?" he whispered softly to her. He took several deep breaths to stop himself from trembling in anticipation.

Ryuu looked at the herd at Achat's question. The young were easy targets simply because they couldn't run as fast but not nearly enough meat for the both of them. The older ones were also slower but the meat was tough with age but went further to feeding them both. She was about to pick one of the older deer when a slight movement caught her attention. A doe was hurt, it wasn't an obvious injury but as Ryuu studied the deer she could see the tail tall sign of a limp. That was the one. Without speaking, Ryuu indicated her choice, she was curious what Achat would think.

Achat caught sight of the injured doe a few seconds after Ryuu did. He nodded and tensed, ready to tear out of the undergrowth at her. Once he felt that he and Ryuu were ready, he leaped out, making straight for the injured doe as quietly as he could. He didn't look back to see if Ryuu was following him. She's probably a competent hunter, she'll be able to keep up... he thought.

Ryuu didn't think but simply reacted attacking only seconds after Achat. She swerved the tiniest bit though, to have a different angle to attack then Achat and pushing herself as hard as she could, she made to attack the doe's head. Trusting in her hunting partner to take down the main body of the deer.

Achat grinned, watching the herd scatter, their prey limping along after. As Ryuu went for the head, he lunged forward to bite the deer's leg, yanking it back to bring her to her knees. He dug his teeth in deeply, tearing at the muscles with a growl of triumph. Hunting deer...it was nice to hunt deer after a few weeks of fishing. Would Ryuu's adopted family be joining them for the meal? He wasn't sure if he wanted that...but it was her choice, not his. Even if I think I'd like to spend more time getting to know her...

As Achat attacked the legs, Ryuu went for the neck breaking it with her strong jaws. Finally satisfied it wouldn't be going anywhere, she dropped the deer to the ground, Ryuu grinned at Achat, they hunted well together. " I saw that was a success, and I'm looking forward to actually having some deer."
Looking around, Ryuu tried to figure out how much longer until it got dark but she had never been very good at that. "Should we eat here or find shelter first and then eat?"

Achat watched Ryuu smoothly kill the deer. He tended to rip out the throat, just as he was taught. He'd never met someone strong enough to snap the neck. It's been a while since I was impressed. I'm definitely sticking around until she chases me away. He released the deer's leg and licked at the blood on his lips. "Yes, I'd say this was a success." He chuckled as he touched the prey with his paw. "And personally, I'd like to go to some shelter before we eat. Do you have a den or something?" Quickly, a little slyly, he added, "Got anyone else we should share the catch with?"

"No den for me, I'm actually traveling so I can find my siblings, as for for someone to share the catch with..." looking up at Achat "The only one I want to share with is already standing right in front of me. "
Ryuu smiled back shyly unsure of how to express her intrest in the male, she could handle two young dragon on her own but dealing with the opposite sex seemed like one of the hardest things she has done.
