I heard a rumor that Marvel is trying to get the ATLA license to do a comic series with. I sure hope they do and we had some ideas of some stories the comic could deal with. Some ideas about what an Avatar comic would be like if one were ever made, most of these came up in a conversation between my husband and myself.
Story arcs: plots that deal with characters that could last for several issues. arrow Love Amongst the Dragons. The play Zuko's mother forced him to watch every summer as a child, I'd really like to see the story the play is based on. It could be a good drama with elemental magical fighting thrown in for fun. arrow The Adventures of Kyoshi or Roku. We saw snippets of their lives, but we only saw so much and also know that they did so much more. It'd be fun to see some of their adventures. arrow Iroh's Trip into the Spirit World. Much as I'd rather this were a movie, if not it'd be an awesome comic. arrow Zuko's Search for Ursa. Again: I'd rather it were a movie, but I'd love to see what he has to do to find her once the war ended. arrow Some of the Past Avatar's Lives. We know Roku told Jeong Jeong that he had had "1,000 lifetimes," surely some of them had interesting lives.
Loose Ends: stories dealing with loose ends from the series, most could be short stories. arrow Toph's reunion with her parents. arrow Whatever happened to Hawky? arrow Paku and Grangran's reunion. arrow Ty Lee teaching her pressure point techniques to the Kyoshi Warriors. arrow How the Painted Lady became a Spirit (if you believe that she looks human because she used to be one like Yue). arrow Dancing being reintroduced to Fire Nation schools. You know Aang's going to make Zuko do it!
Day in the Life Of...: these are always fun and it'd be cool to see snapshots in the lives of any of the characters. For example... arrow King Bumi: A look at him when he was a kid playing with Aang, or when he was king of a city state before the Fire Nation attacked Omashu (craziness ensues!), while he was locked in the metal coffin, or while he's rebuilding Omashu or Ba Sing Seh. arrow Any main or named character. Just a quick look at how they spend their days, like in Tales of Ba Sing Seh. To see how they're dealing with all the fighting that will continue after the war was declared over or just a regular day. arrow Minor or Unnamed Characters. Meng, Cabbage Merchant, Jun, Aunt Woo, Crazy Herbalist Lady, any of the play actors, The Boulder, Hue, Ferry Ticket Lady, Smellerbee, or any of the other characters that have stood out over the series. What's going on with them?
Some we won't see: I'd love to see these but we probably won't. arrow Anything with Wang Fire. Treating him like the character the fans have turned him into. I'd love to see him counseling Azula. Or a day in the life of Wang Fire. Or a comic done like it's a Fire Nation publication. arrow Jun beating up look alikes from other popular cartoons. She already beat up Ryu from Street Fighter... twice!
That's all my husband and I could think of, have you any ideas? Like any of these? I'd like to know what you guys think.

I can't think of any story arcs I want in there, ooh! What's up with Zuko's mom? Is she dead, did she take refuge in Ba Sing Se? Knowing what happened with her would be cool. Other than that, I'd want the art to resemble (at least a little) the show's art.

Avatar in a COMIC? That'd be cool -- but the art style doesn't fit...avatar isn't anime, but it's neither cartoon...it's inbetween...they better hire some good artists. @_@

To find out if Jet really died? Um, I'd love to see the series a couple of years past. To see how things ended up.

These sound like awesome ideas! I was nodding my head at all of your suggested loose ends, and they have taught me that I need to go watch the Painted Lady. Anyway, I think that would be great! Avatar is slightly an anime, yet, it started out as a show... But the animation... *confusion ensues*

Must... resist... urge... to... nerd... up... God. I'm such a comic nerd, you don't even want to start with me on this. I won't be able to stop.
I'm so happy Marvel might be doing this.

Well, I haven't heard hide nor hair about it since... but I'd still love to see an official comic and I would totally buy it if it's not in the Nick magazine!

Nanenna arrow How the Painted Lady became a Spirit (if you believe that she looks human because she used to be one like Yue).
that's a very good point! I've also been wondering how and when someone finds out if they're a bender...

I don't know if this is what the OP is referring to, but this is kind of relevant: http://www.mangamaniaccafe.com/?p=3447Quote: SAN DIEGO, CA – July 25, 2009 – Del Rey Manga, an imprint of Ballantine Books at the Random House Publishing Group and Nickelodeon/Viacom Consumer Products (NVCP) announced at Comic-Con International in San Diego, four new manga style releases – an artistic and storytelling stylized comic book set in black and white. Based on Nickelodeon’s international hit animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender and the upcoming feature film release “The Last Airbender,” directed by M. Night Shyamalan, this partnership marks the first manga tie-in for Nickelodeon. The two original black-and-white manga will be written by Dave Roman (Jax Epoch and the Quicken Forbidden, Agnes Quill). The prequel manga, scheduled for publication in April 2009, will be illustrated by Nina Matsumoto (Yokaiden) and the movie adaptation, to be published in June 2010, will be illustrated by Joon Choi (This is Pop). Just for kicks: Samples the prequel artist sent to Paramount: http://spacecoyote.deviantart.com/art/First-Avatar-Sketches-138876251Zuko and Iroh final designs for the prequel: http://spacecoyote.deviantart.com/art/Zuko-and-Iroh-inked-139721478

I certainly heard about spacecoyote doing some prequel manga (her drawing is my computer background), but according to the article, it sounded like it would be coming out in April of 2009... maybe I need to go scour Borders' shelves.

Her art would make for a shitty comic series. It's more of the same old copied anime "style" that every teen and pre-teen adopts because they want to grow up to be some famous manga artist. There's no skill in copying some over done style. If there's a comic, I'd rather see it done at best by Western comic artists or at least by a very skilled Japanese artist that doesn't have that tired old "anime desu kawaii" style.
