Her tail flicked, and she laughed kindly. "I've never met something like that, so I really couldn't disagree or agree with you." She dipped her tail into the stream, making small circles with the fifth appendage lazily.

[I'll probably have Lorne and Ganon visit later, but I just wanna point out that Sakura belongs to Nicky, not Mararan. XD You put down Mararan and Ganon in your events thing regarding Paige accepting Kyan.]

((oh my, lol! Are we done with the Lorne scene then? Just wanna make sure, as I've got some RP posts to drop into this before anyone else can post. I've got something ... erm... interesting for Kyan and Paige and Shinju - considering he hatched and grew during the competition when she wasn't home to look after him.))

Family Meetings

Waarufu
Kaaruni approached the stranger's den, Dahn Tau and Tranduil's scent comforting her that she was indeed at the right place. She cautiously stepped out of the brush, approaching tentatively with her ears pricked forward.

Overhead, the massive form of the Japanese kyn, the clan leader Shinju, cast a fleeting shadow in flight. He circled around the den site, landing a ways behind the young lunar kyn and approaching on foot. His human was seated on his back behind his head, stroking his pearl mane softly.

The small, white kyn darting around his human's shoulder was Hakuryu, the second kyn in the family. Despite his small size, he was quite full of himself. He finally settled onto Paige's shoulder, reaching over and preening her mid-back braid of light brown hair. Paige smiled at him and scratched him under the chin, slipping off of Shinju's back.

Nishi landed on her sister's shoulder, giving a peppy, shrill call towards the den as Paige came into the clearing with a smile on her face. Paige was young for a human, under eighteen for sure. But she stood with confidence amidst the clan of kyn, Shinju's son and daughter left behind at the den.

"Hello?" Paige called out, broad smile on her young face.

KiiMeLwi
A figure hidden in the shade of the top entrance to the caverns which was its home raised its head, coming into the sunlight to peer at the strangers. This was Nariel, the second kyn of this small, growing clan. Blinking the sleep from her eyes, the eastern kyn leapt down from her resting place somewhat like a cat to land on the ground bellow. "Ah...Hello." She said slowly, a bit nervous and even embarassed for being caught napping. "Welcome to our...ehhh...home..." She barely knew what to say, and seemed to turn a bit pink.

Soon enough, a larger kyn came from the inside of the caverns to see what was going on. He recognized two of the five visitors, and grinned broadly. "Gentle Nishi, Fair Kaaruni, Welcome welcome. This is a lovely surprise. I'm hoping you actually meant to come here and are not just lost." He kidded, and pulled his entired body out of the caves, and walked forward, around the pond.

Because of Dui's loud voice, it wasn't long after that Jaswinder, Dahn Tau and the human Mararan also appeard from the inside of the caverns.

Mararan strode to greet Paige, holding out a hand. "I do believe I have heard of your kyns, Kaaruni and Nishi so very much. It's very nice to meet you! I'm Mararan. Just Mara is fine...fine." She must have seemed a very bouncy girl, almost 17, but not quite. Her brown, curly hair was tightly pulled back in some sort of braided bun, to keep it all out of the way, and her clothes were a bit grubby. "Sorry about my...appearace. I was just working in the back on one of the caves. It's so disorganized." She made a face.

Jas strolled over to her sister, Nar, and they sat together, whispering to each other. Finally, Nariel protesting, but following anyway, Jas made her way to introduce herself. "Good day...I'm Jaswinder. And this is Nariel. It's a pleasure to meet you."

Waarufu
Paige looked up at the European, smiling politely at her and bowing her head. "I'm sorry... did we interrupt?"

Nishi took to wing at the sight of Tranduil, chirruping in greeting to the large Eastern kyn with a bright smile on her tiny face. "Still flattering, I see!"

Paige laughed at Nishi's eagerness to see the other clan, hand at her side absently rubbing Kaaruni's ears.

"Oh no, we're not lost. I'd thought it'd be nice to visit." Nishi continued in her peppy attitude, flitting back and forth in her excitement.

Paige took the offered hand, smiling gently. She was only clean from the grace of having changed to be presentable. "It's nice to meet you. I'm Paige Kendarian, and no worries about the dress. I'm lucky I'm not worse off right now myself." She laughed a bit, running a hand through her hair and back across her braid.

Hakuryu made a noise from Paige's shoulder, something akin to a 'kyuu!', neck entwining about itself as he looked at the other two kyn. "Hakuryu." He said his own name with pride, trilling lightly afterwards as he dipped his entertwined neck in a small bow.

"Dui, this is my father, Hakuryu. And our clan leader, Shinju. And that's my human, Paige." Nishi continued to flit about merrily in front of Tranduil.

Shinju gave a small bow of his own head from the sidelines, seeming a little withdrawn.

KiiMeLwi
At being addressed, Nariel jumped. Calming down, she shook her head furiously at Paige. "Er...er...no. No, I was..no." She already seemed to be quite the nervous, jittery kind of kyn. She clacked her claws together, a nervous habbit of hers, that often drove her clan crazy.

"Of course." Tranduil nodded to Nishi, and then offering his back or a horn for her to perch on. "And you are still, no...more lovely than I remember." He said with a grin. Tranduil nodded a polite greeting to both Shinju and Hakuryu, and a grin for Paige. "A pleasure to meet you, it is."

Mararan rubbed her hands on her apron for what seemed to have been the thousandth time that day. She flashed Paige a smile, green eyes sparkling. "Oh, how rude of me, coming out to greet you when it would be so much easier to invite you in. Come, come. I can make some tea or coffee...and I'm sure Nariel could get something from the stores for us all to eat, right, Nar?" She laughed. "Please ignore the mess inside. We're sort of reorganizing this week." She began to make her way back inside, through the lower entrance, urging Paige & her kyns to follow.

Dahn Tau grinned at the visitors, especially Kaaruni. "Hey!" He nodded in greetings to all of them. "Weren't expecting you here." He said to the female lunar. He also seemed to be in an exceptionally good mood today.

Jas also greeted the strangers with nods and smiled. Her gaze lingered on first Nishi, then Hakuryu, never seeing a kyn like they before. And they were small...not that she wasn't. To be honest, she was the smallest kyn in her clan, even smaller than Dahn Tau, though not by much. She had often thought that her size should have been more like Nariel, who was almost twice her size, but had gotten used to the idea by now. Without noticing, Jaswinder ended up staring at Hakuryu longer than she had intended...and still hadn't stopped.

Waarufu
Nishi gave a chirrup, settling onto Tranduil's offered horn and turning her head to preen at her wing. "You're still a gentleman."

Shinju dipped his large head in greeting, rumbling through his mindlink with Paige before speaking for all to hear. "Little Nishi has talked almost non-stop about you and your brother."

Paige smiled to the other kyn. "A pleasure to meet you as well." She chuckled at Mararan's offer, smiling brightly. "Oh, I don't want to make trouble for you! And, please, our den is a mess all the time no matter what I do to it so there's no need to apologize."

Kaaruni padded over to Dahn Tau, her tail waving ever-so-slightly behind her. "It was Nishi's idea, really." She cast a glance towards her smaller sister, who was busy chirping away about who-knew-what in poor Tranduil's ear.

Hakuryu resumed flight as Paige made the inclination to follow Mararan through the mindlink, small wings beating quickly to keep his smaller frame aloft. His own gaze caught Jaswinder's, trilling lightly to her in greeting.

KiiMeLwi
"Of course! Did you expect me to turn sour on you, dear lady, since our last meeting? Oh how we've pined for your graceful presence." He brought a calw up to his chest, in such a way that seemed as if it would be uncomfotable for a kyn to do. Apparently, Dui had been watching too many old movies...or something.

Turning to smile at Shinju, "Oh? I do hope nothing embarassing was mentioned. Poor Dahn does often make a fool of himself...Ah well."

"Oh its no trouble at all. I've been wanting a reason to have some tea." Mararan again beckoned to Paige and kyns, kicking some boxes of things out of the way in the meantime. the entrance of the cave was currently not covered as it usually was by hide, but instead it was open wide to let air in. The caverns could be seen, and they looked more like someones house than a CAVE. The lower part of the caverns were Mararan's...and quite furnished to meet a humans needs.

Jaswinder jumped, now aware that Hakuryu had noticed her. Embarassed, she turned away, but turned back to smiled at him. "Hakuryu...a good name. Does it mean anything?" She strode over to walk underneath him, making her way to the caves with everyone else.

Dahn began to escort Kaaruni to the caverns as well, making sure not to get TOO close. "Oh...I see. Well, it's a pleasant surprise." He padded along to her right side, tail held up high and proud. He was proud of his home.

Waarufu
Nishi crooned to the larger Japanese kyn, dipping her head from preening her own wing to straighten a bit of his mane. She moved her head back to her own mane, as if trying to ignore Shinju and whatever comment the prince of her den may have.

The pearl rumbled lightly, perhaps scoffing at Nishi's flirtatious behavior or her insistance of ignoring her. He moved after Mararan and slightly in front of Paige, entering the caves without another vocalization. His massive maned tail swayed slightly behind him, and he kept it from dragging on the forest and cave floor to keep twigs from getting tangled in it.

"Tea sounds like a wonderful idea." She smiled again at the other, still a little red due to her own shy personality. It had no doubt taken some prodding to get their human out of her den.

He flapped a little bit, darting and weaving a moment to see his bonded move safely into the den before he settled into a straighter flight path, red eyes gazing down on the European. "White dragon." He stated simply, weaving up and down in the air for another few flaps his wings. "You?"

Her ears pricked forward and her tail froze for a few seconds, watching her human enter the other's den cautiously. Another breath later and her tail was waving gently behind her once more, and she padded beside Dahn Tau in a much more relaxed manner. "It's nice to see new places sometimes."

KiiMeLwi
Dui replaced his claw unto the ground and smiled brightly upwards at Nishi as she fixed his mane. "Thank you, gentle lady. Why don't we enter my castle and get comfortable for an enjoyable evening of dining, entertainment and long, plesant conversation?" He made his way to follow everyone else inside, bending his head so that Nishi wouldn't be smashed into the roof of the cave. The cavern itself was much much higher, and allowed Dui to stretch out his neck once inside.

The caverns themselves are a lot larger than one would first think, seeing the smaller entrance. Many columns of rock seem to have been formed by some sort of earth magic, most likely the efforts of any of Mararan's kyns with such powers. Also, many 'walls' of rock seemed to have been created in the same such way, and separated the 'rooms.' Tranduil wrapped his body around one of these columns, settling so that he could lay on the ground, facing the rest of the room's inhabitants.

Mararan was getting everyone, human and kyn alike, to sit at the humongous table that rested in the middle of the room they had entered. "This is basically our dining room...well, for guests anyway. Or large parties...or something like that. With the amount of kyns entering this family, I think it might one day end up being a normal dining room! Oh dear...I wonder what will happen then..." She shook her head and pointed to a makeshift door behind her. "That way leads to our pantries and kitchen. Both are aquite large, actually, since someone eats so very much."

Pointing to two more doors, on opposite sides of the room, "Those basically lead to the same things. Living room, hatching rooms (since we seem to need those so very often...), bathrooms (we have several), my bedroom, and a staircase that I personally carved out of the rock. Don't worry about it being sturdy. We had magic to enforce it. Upstairs is where all kyns sleep. I suppose its like their 'room.' Any of you are welcome up there. Remember that second entrance? The one above the one we just walked through? That's the 'upstairs entrance.' I think it's beautiful up there...Convienient if you can just fly on up there too."

Realizing how much she had just rambled, Mara turned a bit pink and put a hand to her mouth. "Oops. I guess I sorta gave you a tour! Here, lets get some for you all. And tea." She rushed out through the kitchen door without another word, and seemed to leave the room quite quiet.

Nariel had just come through that door when Mara did, carrying a large plate of neatly organized, and quite raw, meat. Mara paused, then sent Nariel to place it on the table...while she got the tea. Nar placed the plate on the table, and sat at the table, back claws resting on the bench. "W-w-would anyone like...like it cooked?" Still jittery...she clacked her claws together. "If you like it...r-raw, feel...feel free to t-take as much...as you want."

Jas continued to stroll underneath Hakuryu. "I...I think I'm named after a lightning goddess. I don't remember exactly which, but that's what Mara told me. Apparently, one of her friends named me."

Dahn Tau noticed Kaaruni stiffen, and eyed her from the side of his sights. She soon relaxed, and he wondered if he imagined it. He nodded at her comment. "Mmm. How do you like it? I love it here...Oh! Food! Want any? He padded over to the table, leaping onto a bench, allowing space for Kaaruni too.

Kyn Tournament: Round One Fight: Paige's Zareb versus poke mattix's Taku

Terrain: The field is vast and empty; it is covered in nothing. A few shrubs dot the place but largely, the field is and has been barren for years. The dirt is moist, but not boggy; it is not sandy, and sticks together in clumps. At least the view is good: because of the flat terrain, one can see miles and miles. The absence of a mountain or a hill is in striking contrast to the vast dirt field.

Your opponent and their Kyn is standing on the otherside of the field, waiting for the battle to begin. A judge stood to the left, whistle in hand. He blows the whistle and yells...

poke mattix
Poke scuffed her foot in the dirt nervously, while her kyn Taku stood tall and proud. Neither of them have had a battle like this, and they both hoped they would be ok in this. Once the judge had blown the whistle she had jumped onto her kyns back, inbetween the spikes so she wouldn't get hurt, and The lunar kyn leap into action. He ran towards their opponent, Howling into the wind. Poke kept her sword to her side while her hands kept a good grip on Her kyn. They were hoping to get in a early blow and catch their opponent off gard.

Waarufu
Paige took a shaky breath, a hand on the spotted hide of her lunar kyn. Zareb was her newest bonded, and she trusted the kyn with her life, but this fight would not be well-coordinated in team work. Paige had been in sparring situations before, a long time ago in her schooling, and so she wasn't nervous because of that. Her nervousness came from her first kyn battle.

At the signal to begin, Zareb threw his head back to the sky and roared out a challenge in the form of a howl. His head lowered and the howl died into a snarl, having sufficiently proclaimed that this battlefield was his own. He shifted his weight, eyes glinting anxiously. He would wait, bide his time.

Beside Zareb, Paige shifted her own weight uneasily. The other pair was approaching - fast. Fifty feet became thirty, thirty dwindled to twenty; Paige vaulted onto Zareb's back herself, her bow and quiver over her shoulder. Zareb dug his claws into the ground, neck fur standing on end, and simply glared. He was ready for this with one of the oldest tricks in the book.

poke mattix
A snarl escaped the kyns lips and his opponent howled. How dare he proclaim this his battelfield, before they even started to fight! He lowered himself closer to the ground and, when only a few feet from their opponents lept off the ground, his maw opened and claws outsretched as he attempted to bite down on the other kyns left shoulderblade

Her heat was beating at an acceptional rate, and it seemed to beat faster as they got closer. In response poke lowered her body to help gain speed, and when the kyn left the ground she placed both hands on her sword and swung the blade in a horizontal fashion. It was an aggressive attack, but it left her open and her balance shifted, with only her legs to grip onto and prevent her from falling.

Waarufu
Paige ducked close to Zareb's neck, her hands gripping a few clumps of fur to ensure that she was secure on his back for his move. They'd planned this one, briefly. She knew what he was going to do, and all she had to do was not fall off.

He waited until Taku's muscles bunched for the jump, popping his own leg musles tightly so he hopped off the ground stiffly - and vanished. The moist dirt provided him natural camouflage, but his illusion magic enhanced his innate ability to an extreme.

If one was dead still and listened carefully, no movement could be heard.

Zareb, in truth, had backed off a few paces and laid down. He had to be still to keep up his magic, and he had to concentrate harder to keep the extra weight of Paige hidden with him. He wasn't running or playing with them, merely looking to perhaps fray their nerves to give them an advantage.

Paige closed her eyes, her face buried in Zareb's fur. She couldn't say a word, couldn't move more than to breath. It was imperative for her to remain as still as possible so that Zareb's magic wouldn't fail.

poke mattix
poke nearly broke her back in that instant. She had just managed to hold on to her kyn but he had stumbled and went down on his two front paws. She looked around franticly for their opponents, but could not see them at all. She pondered at how they could just disapear all of a sudden. Did they teleport away?

The sudden disapearing act caught taku off gard, and he stumbled over the ground, having put all his weight into his attack. He growled, scanning the area but no sign of their opponent. Howver sigt was not his only scense, and his nose told him they had not gone far. Even though he could not see where they were, he knew how to find them..

inhaly deeping he exchaled a jet of flame that spanned a few meters in front of them, seeing if that would do anything. With this attack he did not put alot of strngth into it, seeing how it was most likey gonna miss. He then turned his head to either side and did the same, trying to find out where they were.

Waarufu
From Taku's left came an outburst of noise as soon as the first bit of fire left his mouth in that direction. As the fire died down, Zareb was able to be seen crouching defensively. His fur was burned around his face and the front of his forearms, some of the wounds possibly going deeper, but he had managed to pull up a fire barrier to do little more than absorb the damage before it was too late.

Paige had been thrown off her kyn's back in his own attempt to protect her, and had landed a few feet behind Zareb. From where she knelt, she let loose an arrow from her bow, having strung it while the flames were still dieing off. She couldn't spare too much time to worry about the lunar. It was more important to distract the other fighting pair from him so he could take care of himself. After all, she was the hindrance in this pair.

As Paige let loose her arrow, Zareb turned to his right and sprinted a few feet away. He ducked down in the dirt, rolling slightly in his own haste and having to suppress a howl of pain because of it. He tried to collect himself, drawing on his magic in an attempt to heal himself. He chose the element of fire, as it was what had dealt the damage.

poke mattix
Pokes eyes widened at the sight of the arrow, and she tried to get off taku to get away from it but she wasn't quick enough. The arrow struck her in her right arm, cauing her to fall off instead. She knelt on the ground, cringing and inspecting the damage done to her arm. I looked like she wouldn't be able to use that arm as much, but at least she was left handed. ((it's true, l am left handed XP))

Taku let out a nasty growl at the girl who had shot her rider off him. She looked badly damaged, and he glared at the girl who had done it. However instead of attacking the girl in revenge, he decided it would be better to go after the kyn, because it would be unfair for a fully grown kyn to attack a human girl. plus she was trying to distract him anyway. Using his speed he jumped past the two girls and ran towards the crouching male. Though in his haste he had left his flank open to any attack from behind

Waarufu
Paige glared right back at the lunar kyn, unafraid of him. She strung another arrow, taking aim a few paces ahead of Taku's running steps and releasing her second arrow. For now, she ignored the other rider.

Zareb snarled, crouching and backing away. The burns were healing, but it was taking precious time that he didn't have. He shifted his concentration, staying crouched and attempting to pull up a barrier at the last moment if Taku got too close. The healing stopped as he did this, of course. He couldn't hold two trains of thought at once, especially not with the concentration it required. His only hope was that Paige's arrow would stop the other lunar in his tracks.

poke mattix
The second arrow Struck Taku on his left shoulderblade, which pierced the skin and went into the muscle. It caused him to stumble on his left leg and to go down in a heap, but not before releasing another jet of fire at Zareb. The fall also caused some more damage to his left leg, and he did his best to shake off the pain

meanwhile. Poke was doing her best to remove the arrow that was caught on her arm. With slow movement she began to ease the arrow backwards, while flintching at the pain it caused

Waarufu
Paige watched what happened to Taku and Zareb, her attention off of poke in her own interest. Her bond to Zareb gave her more information about what was going on, as well as stole a fair amount of her attention.

Zareb flinched backwards a bit at the sight of the spell, but knew it was wildly off course because of Taku's fall. He gathered his own power tighter, managing to fend off all but the extreme heat from the magical attack. With a growl, his concentration swapped back to healing. His golden eyes watched Taku intently, knowing that he might have to pull another retreat any moment. But until that time, he would concentrate on putting himself back together again.

Her partner taken care of, for now, Paige sets herself to pulling another arrow from her quiver and stringing it. She aligned her shot for Taku's right front paw, wanting to immobilize him.

poke mattix
poke had to say, she was surprinzed. when she finaly got the arrow out the wound just kept bleeding. Her right arm was now dripping blood, and she could feel her lunch churning inside her stomach. dammit l'm sick of coming off second best! she thought. Then she realised something. Waarufu was paying attention to her kyn instead of her. She also noticed her about to shoot Taku for the second time. If there was a time to attack, then now would be it.

She noticed her blade next to her, which she had dropped when she was hit. Without the use of her right arm she didn't know how well she could manover her blade, but the idea of being unarmed did not appear to her. She stood up with her sword in her left hand, and ran towards her opponent. When she closer to her opponent, She yelled out "HEY!!" and made an attempt to stab her opponent in the shoulder, Though it was a very off balanced attack, since she was only using her left arm, and it ended up being more of a "blind slash". Blood had also been splattered on the ground from the movment of her right arm.

While on the ground, Taku began to concentrate on a spell that should hopfully corner Zareb and allow it easier to attack. It could be noted though, that the area around them began to heat up [1/3]

While concentrating he could dimly hear her rider call out something, but couldn't make it out. He could only hope she wasn't about to get herself killied...

Waarufu
The major burns healed, it was now much easier for him to make movements. He still had a ways to go to be fully healed, but he didn't need to be one hundred percent to fight this battle.

With a snarl, Zareb flung himself forward at a sprint, aiming to jump over Taku to keep his attention until Paige's arrow had done its work. He was favoring his front legs a bit, and blood marked each step, but he bit back any vocal complaints and kept himself focused.

He noticed the rising heat, but there wasn't much he could do but to distract the other kyn.

Paige released the arrow before her eyes caught sight of poke mattix's approach. She ducked and rolled at the last possible moment, the blade slicing away a bit of her leather tunic and flesh but leaving her unharmed for the most part. Her shots may be unsteady now, but if poke hadn't said anything to alert her she would've lost the use of her arm for sure.

As it was, she drew one of the kunai from out of her boot and threw without taking the time to aim. She was in an awkward crouch, and the small knife would likely miss, but Zareb was bounding over from behind to help.

poke mattix
She didn't expect for her to shoot taku then escape, but it should be something she'd remember later. When the knife was thrown she used the weight of her sword to help her lean twards her left so the kunai missed. To prevent her from falling over, her tail stretched out to the floor and provided extra balance. Pushing of the ground she ran at paige again, and hoping for a better strike this time she pushed her sword forward in a diagonal stab at Paige's shouder. Blood still littered the grass from her arm. She took note of the other kyn coming towards her, but she could pay much attention to him and hoped taku would stop him.

to prevent the lunar kyn from reaching the rider, Taku reared up on his hind legs as Zareb leaped over him, hoping to bite down on his right foreleg. The arrow that was shot hit him in his back hindleg, going deep into the muscle. This caused him to snarl in pain as well as anger, but didn't stop his attack. It would take a fair few arrows to bring him down, regardless of his size.
while he was doing this, his spell still charged up, and it began to get much hotter. [2/3]

Waarufu
Zareb shifted slightly, angling his own head downwards in response to Taku's adjustment. His maw opened as he too went for a hit. His advantage being that Taku's movement had exposed his neck and underbelly, the downside being that his momentum prevented him from doing a proper transition from leap to attack.

Taku's teeth came down around his foreleg, his own maw aimed for a more deadly section of head or neck. He brought up his hind legs as soon as he'd made contact, claws attempting to dig under and into Taku's exposed chest and stomach. Zareb made no noise, fur rising as he fought the other. Hopefully the impact had stopped Taku's concentration.

In her hurry to get away, she'd dropped her bow. The quiver and arrows were still strung over her shoulder safely, but losing her long-range weapon meant she'd have to recover it to continue aiding Zareb against Taku. With Zareb tied up in a physical competition against Taku, Paige knew she couldn't rely on any aid from her kyn at the moment.

She only had one other kunai on her, and it wasn't a good idea to try and block a full-bladed weapon with the smaller throwing knife. This as it was, with poke weighted down from her own weapon, Paige's only option was to dodge the attack. She side-stepped clumsily, ended up tripping over herself and falling to the ground in a puff of dust.

poke mattix
even though her attack missed, she did achieve one thing; paige had dropped her bow. That meant she couldn't attack her kyn which was a good thing.

Though with all the blood she was losing, it was starting to show, as her vision blurred and her head beginning to hurt. Shaking this off as best she could, she yanked the sword out from the ground where it had been planet from her previous attack, and brung it up in a awkard horizontal slice at her, almost falling forward.

As Zareb's teeth came down on his own neck, his own teeth crunched down on the forleg in hopes of doing some serious damage to the muscle and bone, and prevent him from walking. His concentration wavered as pain served around his neck from the bite, but it did not stop him from implementing his own spell. Around the kyn a Fire began to arise and incirled them in a ring. It caused the temperature in the circle to rise dramaticly, and hopefully prevent escape. [3/3 fire ring]

As his opponent scratched at his stomach with his hind claws, Taku began to lose balance as his opponent went forward as he jumped, and he began to fall backwards. While falling though, he kept his teeth firmly clamped on zarebs forleg.

Waarufu
Zareb ignored the heat, used to implementing flames for his own benefit in his own magic. Instead, he concentrated on closing his jaws down; through the layer of fur and skin, punching through muscles and inching towards the wind pipe and the major artery - puncturing either of which would cause death - which Zareb seemed heedless to.

He zoned out on the pain in his fore-arm as well, vision narrowing in on his target as his nostrils flared to the scent of blood. Lunars were a proud breed, meant to hunt and kill; and Zareb's instincts and talents in these things were strong.

The shift in position gave him a better standing, and his hind feet hit the ground and claws flexed in to hold him there. He pressed his weight down on the other, using that leverage to try and grab more of Taku's throat maliciously. The fight was personal to this one, now, since Taku had blocked his protection of his human.

The downside to the new position was that Taku also had a better hold on his foreleg, which would undoubtedly break within the next few moments under the extreme jaw pressure.

Paige had too much of her own to deal with to spare a thought towards Zareb's actions. She couldn't speak through their link anyways, and prying off a lunar with his jaws locked in battle wasn't something she was considering for the time being.

Watching the other's awkward movements, she knew that poke had to be hurt. She shoved aside her own feelings, knowing that what had to be done had to be done. She'd known when she agreed to the competition that it was going to change her and her kyns, and she was willing to accept it for better or worse.

Slowed down by the blade's own weight and her wounds, poke's movements were becoming easier and easier to predict. Paige hopped backward, stumbling backwards as the weapon sliced through the front of her leather tunic and drew a thin line of blood. She winced, and stooped down to grab the last kunai from its ankle holster, rising quickly to continue facing her opponent.

poke mattix
At this moment in time, poke was feeling like a complete fool. When she and her kyn had entered the competition they thought they would stand a good chance, but so far she had made mistake after miskae, instead of actually doing anything usefull. Right now her eyes kept sliding out of focus, making things just seem a haze of colours. All this from a arrow wound?!?! you can't give up yet!! her brain told herself, and she forced her eyes to focus.

She saw that her opponent was now armed with one of those small knives. Regardless of how big her own sword was, it would be stupid to get into any sort of combat with her. As for the fight with the two kyns, There wasn't much she could do anyway; The fire ring prevented her from getting to close.

For the meantime though, her legs gave way and she kneeled on the ground, using her sword a s balance. Either she'd sit like that untill she lost concious, or she would think of something usefull to do.

The situation was not looking good for Taku at all, but the proud lunar would not yeild to his opponent. His was the leader of his clan, and would sooner die than to admit defeat. With the other kyn's Teeth getting closer to his wind pipe he found it alot harder to breathe, But he still held onto his opponets forleg.
Trying to concentrate under the pain, He focused his attention onto one point of his fire wall, which caused other parts to waver. This part, which was situated behind them began to glow brighter, and then a small blast of fire came out and aimed for zared, muh like the sun and it's solar flares.

Waarufu
Paige watched poke go down, biting her lip and hesitating a moment. This other person wasn't an enemy, just a competitor, and she could be badly injured. Caution thrown out, Paige moved toward her with worry written across her young face.

"Are you alright?" If Zareb could have spared the time to pay attention and had the ability to, he would have chided her through the link for her recklessness.

The flames licked at his multi-colored back, and Zareb winced and chomped down all the harder. He knew the only way to get the magic to stop working was to knock out the enemy. As it was, the spell chewed through his fur quickly to reach his skin. His tail stood out stiff at his back as he refused to allow the appendage to tuck under him as it wanted to. Pain and blood loss, with dehydration now creeping in, was blurring his already-narrowed vision.

poke mattix
poke kept herself steady, and noticed her foe come over. Though in most cases it would have been a easy way to attack, poke wasn't that type of person.

"yeah..sorta off..." she said through gritted teeth, the pain now really getting to her. It was nice to know that they could both show kindess even in the midst of battle.

struggerling to get air through his lungs, taku still kept up the assult from behind, Increasing the strength of the flames as best as he could. There was nothing else he could do at this moment. If this wouldn't work he wouldn't have another chance at this.
Though it was good to see his spell take some effect on his opponent, his vision was wavering badly, and he also fought on to stay consious

Waarufu
Paige kneeled beside poke mattix, reaching out gingerly to shift the fabric of her shirt around the wound. "I'm sorry," she glanced up as she spoke, worry and apology still written on her face, "I didn't mean to hurt you like this."

She was almost embarassed, her own wounds having caked over by now. She was tired, more so than she's been in a very long time, but didn't look to be in as bad of a shape as poke - which was the source of her shame.

A sharp snarl ripped through Zareb's vocal chords, hissing out of the corners of his mouth around his teeth and Taku's flesh. He released his hold on the other's throat, throwing himself to the side in a sharp roll before launching back onto his feet. He was stuck inside of the circle of fire, and his back was literally smoking.

A vicious snarl was painted on, his tail arched over his own hindquarters despite the pain. It's amazing how much adrenaline can block from one's own mind.

poke mattix
at paige's words, she looked up and smilied, her characteristic goofiness showing through her pain. "sorry? you have no reason to say that to me! it's because of my inexperience l'm like this...although..." she looked at the ground. "at least l'll learn something from this battle" with that, her eyes closed as she succumed to the blood loss, losing grip of her sword and falling to the ground.

air began to flow back into his lungs as Taku was finaly able to breathe again. Quickly he got to his feet, showing zareb his own teeth through a vicious growl. He kept himself poised, ready to make a move at any moment. Slowly he took a few steps forward, his whole body tense. He was waiting for zareb to attack him again, or to see if he would try a different tactic. He wasn't to sure.

Waarufu
"Poke!" Paige moved as quick as she could, though there wasn't anything she could do but kneel beside the unconscious girl and look on to the fight between the two kyn. Unless...

Zareb faced off against Taku, his own leg muscles tensing up as he lowered himself a bit closer to the ground in preparation for a leap towards the other. His tail was arched over his singed back, his coat covered in soot.

"Taku! She needs help and I can't give it to her!" Paige called out to the pair of fighting kyns. Someone needed to talk sense into them, somehow.

poke mattix
Taku's ears pricked when he heard the owner kyn owner call out, and a side glance to her told that poke was down and out. Unwilling to fight when she was in danger, side stepped the other kyn and bounded over to his owner.
His mind was at war though, the instinct to win fighting the instinct to protect her. But Taku knew that of the battle went on any longer she would be in even more danger.
Turing around taku bent his head in submission, keeping his tail low to show that he did not wish to fight anymore. Now the only problem was, where would be be able to find medical attention...

Waarufu
Zareb, surprisingly, backed down from the fight rather easily since Taku had receeded as well. He flopped down into the dust, panting heavily and occasionally licking at his singed skin, waiting for Paige to finish whatever it was she was doing.

The human was still beside poke as Taku approached, but stood and walked towards her own kyn as the lunar took over care of his rider. "The medics should be over shortly. They should be able to take care of her for you Taku." Paige's voice was full of kindness, weary from the fight.

The fire crackled around Paige and the two kyn with her, as they huddled in the small make-shift den. Zareb had won his fight, and now was still beside his bonded, his lower back wrapped in bandages to protect his burns. Shinju had yet to step into the fray, that was left for tomorrow, and so kept his back to the entrance to the cave, where the sharp wind ripped inside. His massive head was resting on his foreclaws, his tail looping around the inside of the cramped cave.

Paige sighed contentedly, resting against Shinju's warm body with one hand buried in Zareb's fur. The mottled lunar kyn's ears were pricked up, his yellow eyes open and alert to the sounds coming from outside of the cave. While his prince and his bonded slept, he kept watch like an uneasy guard dog, wary of what tomorrow would bring.

Kyn Tournament: Round One Fight: Paige's Shinju versus Mararan's Tranduil

Terrain: The snowing has just stopped. A thin layer of snow covered the ground and the leafless trees. The snow, having just fallen within the past couple of hours or so, was still fluffy and full of volume. Surprisingly the sun was out; it reflected across the snow and made it even bright. Full grown trees as well as tree stumps were numerous on the field; hindering one's vision slightly. To the left there was a lake, apparently frozen over from the low temperature.

Your opponent and their Kyn is standing on the otherside of the field, waiting for the battle to begin. A judge stood to the left, whistle in hand. He blows the whistle and yells...

KiiMeLwi
Tranduil gave a kynish grin as he made a quick bow to ShinJu. Wasting not a moment more, Dui started to walk slowly in a sort of circle...waiting for ShinJu to make a move, or reveal an opening. Just in case, he took a deep breath, collecting a bit of wind power, preparing himself.

Mararan had decided to start off this battle with her makeshift spear, but her bow and arrows were strapped to her back, at the ready. She followed her kyn, staying close to his side and also looking for any sort of opening. Looking around at their surroundings, her eyebrows scrunched downward. This wasn't exactly the best place, in her opinion. For one thing...it was cold. And she hated the cold. She'd just have to ignore it. And the bright snow would certainly prove to be a problem to her eyes...that would have to be taken care of...

Waarufu
Paige stood close to her kyn, shivering in the freezing weather. She'd known the event was north, but she hadn't come prepared for the cold temperatures. Granted, she did have on a heavier layer than normal just because of higher altitude flight patterns, but it seemed like nothing against the sharp bite of the frozen landscape.

Shinju curled his tail around Paige, the feathery mane ruffled by the light breeze. His thick hide, built for all kinds of terrain, kept him warm; but he worried for his human's health in this weather. At the start of the battle, he dipped his head as Tranduil had done. The cold would slow down his human, and the fact that this pair were friends would make it all the more difficult.

He took in a breath of the freezing air and released a bellowing roar, eyes sparking as he collected his own power about him.

Paige drew her bow from her back, stringing in an arrow. She couldn't hope to hit anything at this distance, and the glare off of the snow would just make hitting a target even more difficult.

The human and kyn pairing waiting, like the others, for the first move to be made.

KiiMeLwi
Mara just had to have happened to step into a larger pile of snow, didnt she? Her entire leg was pretty much wet by now...and freezing. Her teeth chattered, and she was pretty sure she was losing the feeling in her toes. She shook her foot off, and peered up at Paige, noting that her friend had her bow out and strung. She gave her a weak smile, hoping she knew she was sad that they had to do this against each other. Don't hold back on me... She thought...knowing very well she might end up doing so herself.[/green]

Tranduil snapped his body forward suddenly, deciding on starting it before both humans got too cold. It wouldnt help if there were two frostbitten girls in the middle of this snow! He roared as he charged forward, making as if to snap his head at Shinju, but instead took off into the air, right above his opponent, hovering with his teeth and claws at the ready.

Mara had been waiting for something like this, so when her kyn took off, she quickly grabbed at his tail and hung on. When Dui was about to take off, Mara scrambled up onto his back, hugging his body as close to her as she could, taking in his body heat.

Waarufu
Shinju snapped his body down to the ground in a serpentine motion, mouth gaping and teeth glinting. His jaws closed on air as Dui launched himself off the ground, and Shinju chased him in a back roll. He spiraled in the air after the other, roaring his challenge. He wouldn't hold back, of course. He was the prince of the clan, and he had to fight with honor in order to not lose it.

Paige was knocked to the ground from the combination force of Dui's apporach and Shinju's launch from ground to air. She picked herself up out of the snow, shivering, as she tried to string an arrow. She followed Dui's path, but Shinju was far too wrapped up in his own aerial acrobatic display to realize what his bonded was attempting.

She dropped her gaze, squinting at the glare from the snow. She didn't have the range to hit Mararan, and in truth didn't want to take aim at her friend.

KiiMeLwi
Dui flew even higher, still facing his opponent. He whipped his tail foreward, attempting to grab at Shinju. Not exactly thinking he'd be able to catch him with such a foreward move, Tranduil began to focus some more of his power towards his mouth. This was a spell he disliked greatly, since it often hurt his mouth quite a bit...but it needed to be done. His mouth glowed, it was obvious he was holding in a spell...waiting for the right moment.

Mara opened her eyes and looked down. Shinju had taken off and this had suddenly turned into an aerial fight. She meeped, realizing how high they were now. Looking down at the sights, she noticed Paige, bow in hand. That would be a problem...but then why wasn't she shooting? Oh...her kyn was in the way... It's clan leader against clan prince! It won't be easy...no, it never is. She held on to her kyn tighter. Maybe she would have been better off on the ground!

Waarufu
Shinju sped up slightly, managing to only get smacked with the other's tail on his hindquarters. He stiffled a roar, eyes still glinting from the energy he'd gathered before Tranduil had charged forward. He noted the other's move, knowing that his weakness was his rider. Shinju gave a snapping of his jaws - indicating and yet not attacking Mararan.

Instead, he tipped his head farther back, releasing what he had held into the air, hopefully before the other kyn could make his move, making a backwards dive away from the other pair and his own magic. A small ball of light hovered a moment where Shinju had released it, then burst open in a harmless, but blindingly bright sparkle of energy. Shinju's underbelly was exposed in his backwards dive, but he was counting on the other being blinded.

Now!
He rocked Paige back on the ground with his bellow through their mind link, and her grip let loose on the arrow as she tumbled backwards. It was poorly aimed because she had been thrown off balance.

KiiMeLwi
Tranduil couldn't help but chuckle when he realized he only managed to 'spank' the other kyn. His chuckling died almost right away. He had been distracted by this 'joke' and payed for it dearly. The light blinded him, and he shut his eyes tightly, roaring. Realizing that he was basically a sitting duck , staying there in the air, he began to thrash violently, wriggling around and about everywhere, huge tears coming from his eyes as he desperately tried to regain sight by blinking quickly.

Mara yelped when Dui started to wriggle, and she barely managed to hang on. I am so gonna die... She looked down, trying to see how far away the groud was. SNOW. How she HATED the snow. She waited for a moment, then, when Dui's body was *somewhat* close to the ground, she let go of her hold and tumbled down onto the ground, rolling around in the cold snow. Keeping ahold of her spear, she stood and pointed it at her friend and friends kyn. Uh oh.

Dui continued to trash in the air, but when the arrow finally hit, since he was such alarge target...it hit him nicely in his back foot. Roaring again, surprised by the sudden pain, Tranduil just dropped, landing hard very very close to Mara. She screamed and threw herself at her kyn, trying to help. He struggled and stood, eyes still blinking rapidly and tearing heavily. He kept his back left foot off the ground. He wasn't very happy now. His mouth glowed and he let out his spell...it was a huge gust of wind, blowing all the powdery snow in front of him at Paige and Shinju.

Waarufu
Paige stared on, frightened at Tranduil's roar of pain and at his confused and desperate actions. She shivered physically and mentally, not even beginning to imagine what kind of feedback Mararan was getting from him mentally.

She bit her lip, hesitating on what to do.

As the other's roar hit the air, Shinju knew he had succeeding in his attack. He didn't let his guard drop, but his position when Dui began his thrashing was less-than-compensatory. He took a series of slashes to his hind legs and tail, a long claw mark screeching down his lower abdomen. His own scream chorused to Tranduil's as he hit the snowy ground - hard.

If the mental input from Shinju hadn't been enough to knock Paige back onto the ground (this just wasn't her day for standing, was it?) then the two kyns crashing and shaking the earth around her was. She had no more stood and began moving to Shinju's side than Tranduil's elemental technique blew through the surrounding area. The human was, once more, thrown to the ground. She tumbled a bit, skidding past Shinju in the snow and finally rolling to a stop in a pile of the stuff.

Shinju was a snarling, hissing fit, laying on his side while his eyes burned in rage. The surrounding snow was quickly soaking to crimson, his shredded hindquarters perhaps preventing him from standing and certainly from thinking straight. If Paige couldn't get it through his clouded mind to stop and heal, the fight would be over.

The blast of wind hit him, and he hunkered down in the snow further. His massive nostrils filling with the frosted white flakes as he shut his eyes to keep out the searing chill. When it died down, he responded with a terrible roar and hauled himself into a half-stand. His hindquarters were useless in the snow, only his front clawed hands supporting him. He issued another roar of challenge, eyes sparking with gathered energy as he shook his head to try and rid it of the gathered clumps of snow.

KiiMeLwi
"Dui!" Mara hissed at her kyn, shocked at the force of the spell he had let out. She spun around to look for her friend. She almost fainted when she saw Shinju's condition. She didn't know if she'd be able to go through with this. But Dui was not about to stop, she knew. She took a deep breath and hugged one of Tranduil's front legs. "Dont...hurt anyone too bad, ok?" She gulped and let go of his leg, understanding he had a plan now.

Dui was a bit surprised that Shinju had gotten so cut. He had just been trying to not be an easy target...and apparently he got more through. Shaking off pity...for now...he growled back at his opponent. The stench of blood was making him feel uneasy...NO. Ignore it. He took one step forward, hopping with his only useful back leg...obviously better than Shinju. Pausing, he bowed to Shinju again and then with a sudden burst of energy, leapt into the air to fly above Shinju, Mara once again on his warm, warm back.

Waarufu
Shinju roared again in response, frivolities of bowing forgotten. His eyes continued to smolder with gathering light energy, even as his head followed Dui's movement into the air. This time, Shinju did not take off after him but remained where he was.

Paige had gotten back onto her feet, her face and clothing smudged with blood and snow. She had a determined look to her, and her eyes were on Tranduil as well.

From the more controlled movements of the Japanese kyn, it looked as if Paige had gotten through to him.

In a quick movement, she had strung another arrow onto her recovered bow, and was lining up a shot at the kyn in flight. Stubborn, as always.

KiiMeLwi
Mara held her spear tightly. She didn't want to use it! But Dui would not forgive her if she held back so much. They were weaving around and about in the air, and Mara was feeling a bit dizzy. But not enough. Darn. She wouldnt have any excuse. Eyebrows knitting downward in determination, Mara took aim with her makeshift spear, holding it up, pointing downward at the kyn. She wouldn't dare hit her friend. That would be too much.

Dui, finally noticing Shinju's eyes....they were too bright to ignore...quickly changed his 'plan.' Whatever it was...shaking his head, he readied himself for a quick, simple spell of his own. It was one of his simplest...so it wouldn't take too much time. Not having much else to do, he continued to fly above Shinju and Paige, wriggling around randomly to avoid being an obnoxiously easy target.

Waarufu
There was a sudden, yet expected, burst of bright light, centered around the ground where Shinju had been standing. Had the kyn miss-fired?

In the same instance that the blast went off, Paige released her arrow. From her place on the ground, she was blinded by the light and had nothing to go on but Tranduil's previous place in the sky. She knew her shot was almost guranteed to miss.

Before the light had faded there was a roar, and pushing through the swath of bright elemental energy came Paige's prince of kyn, his body still glowing slightly as an after-effect. He'd cast a strong, built-up healing spell on himself, and was once more in the fight. His hindquarters were still bloodied, and there were fresh scar markings and a number of cuts, but he wasn't gushing rivers any more and the pain had been dulled significantly.

He came from below with his mouth gaping, fangs flashing in the reflected sunlight from the snow and the light left over from his own technique. His aim was, of course, to take a chunk out of the other Japanese kyn. The downside was that his own healing technique had blocked his view of Mararan and he was unaware of her spear being aimed.

Blocked by Shinju's massive form, Paige strung another arrow into her bow and waited for another shot. Unlike Mararan, she was distanced from her kyn now, still waiting on the ground for his return. That was how Shinju protected her, by keeping her off of his back and out of his way.

KiiMeLwi
Dui snapped his head foreward when he saw the arrow shoot randomly into the air. Reaching out quickly, he closed his jaws and broke it into a bunch of small pieces, deeming it useless. He smirked and turned back to watch at this bright light show and wait for Shinju. It wasn't long before his opponent came back out to fight, and boy was Tranduil ready. A bit disappointed that Shinu had managed to heal...(Dui cursed at himself for letting him get a spell ready), Dui lunged at the prince head on, teeth also bared, and three claws as ready as they could be. When the two kyns slammed into each other...if it happened...Dui would slash out and block and bite at Shinju with all his might.

Mararan was certainly surprised when Shinju came flying at them. So it was more of a reflex than a ready attack when she let her spear go flying down at the large kyn coming at her and her own clan leader. She almost immidiately regretted even letting go of the spear. She really REALLY didnt want to hurt anyone! She winced as Dui scolded her in her mind. And she winced even more when she realized he was right. She quickly removed her bow from her back, and strung an arrow, ready.

Waarufu
Shinju did indeed slam into Tranduil, his own mouth seeking the other's flesh even as Tranduil sought his own. His clawed hands searched for a purchase on the other kyn, to lock onto and keep hold of him.

In the process, the spear that Mararan had released lodged itself in his left upper shoulder. He hissed through his nose - a high grating noise that was akin to nails across a chalkboard in its eeriness. Blood dribbled down the pearl's hide, new mixing with the old, drying splatters on his hindquarters. He didn't have long to last with the blood he was losing.

Shinju made another, perhaps more desperate, move a few seconds after impact, flipping the long sinewy tail under and up in an arc almost in a mimic of a whip in its attempt to smack Tranduil and perhaps even Mararan if he wasn't stopped.

Paige was left staring in worry into the sky, waiting for a moment wherein Shinju and Tranduil for relatively still. She thought she saw her opportunity at impact of the two giant dragons, and released her hollow-shafted arrow towards Tranduil's upper body.

KiiMeLwi
It was bad timing, for Tranduil to wriggle the way he had when Shinju let out his tail. Mara, who had been soundly smacked, 'umphed' and slid slowly..then quickly..off the back of her kyn. Barely realizing what had just happened, she fell quietly downward. Then she saw the ground coming nearer...and no one underneath to catch her. She yelped loudly, and Tranduil got a great sense of fear embedded into his head.

Doing the only thing she could think of, Mara wrapped herself into a ball...and held tight, too scared to even scream. Her stomach churned and lurched..

Dui roared in anger when Mara slipped off his back, stunned. Ripping his claws at Shinju, he tried desperately to get away and get his rider. But Shinju was keeping him busy. What could he do?! He spared a moment of his time to take a deep breath, and blew it hard towards where his rider was falling. It wasn't exactly much of a spell, being rushed and all, but if it managed to get underneath her in time, it would slow Mara's fall. At least a bit...

Waarufu
"Mararan!" Paige yelled in fear, helpless to do anything but watch her friend plummet to the ground. Her friend, and one of the only ones besides her dragon to be that. The only other human she'd met so far on this island.

The pearl kyn roared as the other Japanese raked his claws through his scales. With a twitching of his muscles, Shinju tried to shove the other away from him. His own claws were retracted, his action shoving Tranduil towards the ground if the other kyn let him go; telling him to save his bonded.

Shinju, once free of Dui, plummeted towards the ground. Blood trailed across the sky and splattered onto the snow as the large kyn twisted and turned, unable to regain his magical flight. He roared again, hissing and thrashing in his mid-air fall.

Paige was frozen in place, head tilted up towards Shinju, the muddled and frantic thoughts and emotions of her kyn paralyzing her even as his massive form headed straight towards her. The sun overhead was blocked by Shinju as he hurtled at his own pair bonded.

Paige's kyn prince gave a final, rapid twist of his body, a sharp crack resounding across the blood-soiled snow. He hit the ground, having moved just enough so that he came down around Paige instead of on top of her. A rumble issued from deep inside his chest, mouth partially agape.

Shinju's head rested on the ground, his slashed and broken body sprawled out behind him. His scales were dull even in the harsh sunlight.

Shaken, but mostly unharmed, Paige got up after moving Shinju's hand off of her. Her own hand rested on the knuckle of her first kyn, and she looked across the snow towards where Mararan should be.

KiiMeLwi
Tranduil lurched downward, free from Shinju. He roared as he sped as he had never sped before, not caring if he smashed into the ground. He just had to get there. The gust of wind he had sent after his rider had fallen managed to get underneath her, but only slowed her down a little. The spell had been too sloppy. But it seemed to have been enough. Dui was mere inches from the ground when Mara fell onto his curled and twisted body...

The landing wasn't soft...but it wasn't the hard, cold ground. Mara's brain was rattled, and her world grew dark. She struggled to keep from fainting, but doubted she would win. A few of her kyns scales and spines scraped at her skin, but she was too out of it to notice. She coughed and felt something thickly and wet hit her cheek. Dammit...

Tranduil let himself fall the couple inches to the ground, sighing heavily. He wrapped his tail around Mara and lifted her now limp body up against his chest, protecting her from the cold as best he could. Dui started to pant, and closed his eyes, getting rid of the dizziness and confusion he felt from Mara's unconcious form. Slowly opening his eyes again, Dui slowly and gently raised his head, then his front legs...then a back one...and stood as best he could. He turned and stared at Paige, bowing his head towards his rider's human friend, in respect and even apology.

Waarufu
Paige stared on at Tranduil. Even if she could get over her own fear and continue to fight, there was nothing she could do against a full grown kyn. So she settled to simply falling to her butt, back to Shinju's bloodied hand. She stared, almost blankly, at the other bonded pair in front of her.

Shinju's eyes slipped closed, his breathing shallow and hitched. It would take a long time for him to recover, for Paige to recover. The fight was surely lost.

It wasn't exactly something that Paige was looking forward to, but she knew that the majority of that part of her was tied in with Zareb's own feelings. He wanted to continue fighting. He was a Lunar, and it was his right to continue on in the tournament because he had won. However, Paige had decided that with Shinju's wounds the way they were, and with her own mental and emotional state gone hay-wired, it would be in their best interest to back out of the rest of the kyn tournament.

She took her resignation from the tournament, in verbal form, to one of the judges. She salvaged what little dignity she could as she walked away, the judge sparing her the trouble of having to explain why she was backing out. Certainly Zareb would be mad at her for a few days now, but they had a difficult journey home that he would have to help with.

Somewhere, she knew she had done the right thing, even if it didn't agree with Zareb's pride.

Role-Play Log
Hatching of an Outcast

While Paige, Shinju, and Zareb were away at the Kyn Tournament, Asayake was the one watching over the egg that Paige had named Kyan. They knew he was a mixed breed, one of the eggs that Lorne and Sakura had entrusted to them - Asayake believed it was Mararan who had initiated the suggestion. While her human was absent, and in the absence of the real parents, Asayake treated the little egg as it was her own offspring. She curled around it at night, keeping it close to her body for warmth during the day.

But, despite all her care - or perhaps because of it - Kyan was destined to hatch before the one he was supposed to bond to had returned. A little squawk in the middle of the night alerted Asayake to something out of the ordinary. She hadn't heard a sound like that since Nishi had hatched.

Craning her head over her massive body, she stared down at where the egg should be. In place of the egg, or rather in the discards of the shell of the egg, was a little green and blue kyn with tiny, malformed wings. He gave another tired chirrup, and Asayake leaned down to lick at some of the leftover egg sac.

Kyan, hatched without the presence of a human to bond to, would never be able to properly bond with Paige. He would grow up within the clan, but would never feel as if he had a true place there, even in regards to his adopted mother.
