xX~Muffin_Ninja~Xx Inthenameofweird ... a horn is any wind instrument. Like, a bassoon can be a horn just as well as a trumpet or piccollo. brass are hornier than winds -_- there was no pun intended sweatdrop

well, i thought that it was just brasswinds, but my bd always refered to as a sax as a horn. but never a clarinet or flute as one. personally, i think it's any instrument that caries strong tones and can be heard over others. seriously, when i was sitting in the stands, i never heard a clarinet or flute in the band.

it depends on qwhat context you go into...like in concert band a horn is a brass...even though they usually call them winds...(and usually horns are usually french horn)...but for jazz horns are the trumpets and trombone 9bones for jsut trombones, and call the saxaphones the saxes...but as a whole would call the saxes bones ad trumpets the hornline...so deduct what you want from that ^^.

It saves a lot of confusion if you just name the instrument. Piccolo, sax, trumpet, trombone, ect. Or, if you want to be more broad, use woodwind, brass, low brass, percussion, strings. When I say horn, I generally mean, [French] horn or mellophone. I stick to horn, because technically, it's not French.

I think 'horn' applies to every wind instrument, since in marching, we are called to attention with "Band, Horns up!" Though, if using that to define horn, then flags and drums are horns too, which they're not.
