Trailerville
When you look outside you cringe.
A boat sits tilted on its side, spray painted and trash filled.
Cats from the neighbor's number in the hundreds.
All of them wild, feral and untouchable.
The pit bull in the backyard is actually a big teddy bear.
When you go to pull in you change your mind and park on the shoulder.
A dip so deep it'd sink a tank greets you.
Only the thrill seekers and adrenaline junkies brave "the pit.''
The empty cans of beer if stacked could reach the sky.
Sirens seem to sober anyone up quickly.
When you drive down the road watch for the kids.
Spoiled rotten and about as smart as a long, they'll jump in the way.
When night falls the music blares.
A strange combination of jitterbug lyrics and someone's busted speakers.
When you look from a far you crinkle your nose.
Trashy trailers, broken down vehicles, pit bulls, cats, and booze.
When I look I see and home I used to love.
A place that I called my heaven.
A place I used to belong to.
Another good piece of poetry, you should become a member of poetry.com if you are not already, but I must warn you it will cost you money if they publish your poetry into one of thier books.
I think its $40 but maybe more now. It was $40 4yrs ago when I started.
I was selected to win a golden poetry award but I was to broke to make the trip to Los Vegas and receive it.
