Or is life just a series of coincidences?
I've been having a reasonably bad spell of misfortune, and I was wondering your thoughts on luck.
Do you think everyone who builds themselves a fortune reached their successful life through luck, or through hard work? Likewise, do you think people living in America's slums got there through bad luck?
If a series of circumstances happen to you, all with either good outcomes or poor ones, do you contribute it to luck? To fate? Or do you just think it happened?
I'm just curious.
I, for one, claim to not believe in luck or fate. I like to think we have some control over the outcomes of our lives.
It doesn't mean I'm right.

I have no luck what so ever.
I don't really believe in karma but I do believe in doing the right thing.
But if I do happen to find luck at times.
When I find money on the ground and no one is around, I consider that luck.
I also consider that a rhyme.

I feel like giving a more serious response to this, so here goes.
I believe luck is an illusion. The human brain is a stoopid organ, and tries to assign everything a cause and effect. It is also constantly trying to recognize patterns. When those two combine, it starts seeing patterns that don't exist, and trying to figure out reasons for them. Hence, luck.
Now, I do believe it is possible to be "lucky," in a certain sense. If you're born filthy rich, and never have to worry about income for your whole life, you're lucky. If you were born into a kind and loving family or community, you're lucky.
In this case, "lucky" means "fortunate." It just means that out of all the possible outcomes, you happened to receive a good one.
However, I believe everything happens for a reason. No, not in a spiritual sense. In other words, if you're walking along and a building collapses on you, it's not because God wants you dead (because he has a plan for us all. A painful, painful plan).
The reason it happened is ALSO not because you're a bad person or have some bad karma from a previous life. The reason it happened was because someone built a crappy building, or the building had degraded over time without being repaired or torn down, or was build on a fault line. And you decided to go walking around under it.
So, while there is no such thing as luck, the world is far from random.

Fun Fact: according to my Anthropology professor, luck is like a kind of magic or "mana" in some societies. <3

All things happen for a reason, luck exists as a measure of how often these happening go 'your way'
take this for examle: i loved M.I.B. and MIB2 so i treid to test my chances at joining G.I.B., and i got in...i had to say 'talk about luck'
however under my undenomanational Christianity, i feel that God willed this be
for years i've wondered where gaia is headed story-wise and why it's so quirky and wierd, and felt i should investigate on my own, but know i'm in G.I.B. i have a calling to do so - fate? luck? no, God-willed imo
to me fate exists, it's God's lan for us, but YES we the human can choose our own course, but it wont end in paradise - thats what i believe
