I'm not a bad cook, but there's a ton of things I'd love to know how to cook, so if any of our culinary gurus might want to help guild members like me out, that'd be awesome!

So, okay, how the heck to do you make a basic handmade thing of mashed potatoes (don't Google this, you'll get lost in the abyss-- trust me), and how do you make the oh so yummy spinach and artichoke dip?

Asia and I are dying for that.

This is a really good idea.. glad I have such Brilliant people watching the guild while I'm busy killing myself biggrin

As far as the mashed taters go.. peel, wash of course

Throw thems in a pot with cold water, enough to just cover them and add a little bit of salt per your taste. Boil em till they're nice and tender.when stuck with a knife or fork they should just slide right off. Drain, don't rinse, and return to the pot and turn the heat down to low. They're ready to mash, and depending on your particular tastes, there's different tools for the jobs, such as a wire masher, potato ricer, or what have you. But either way, mash em. You can then add cream or milk, not too much mind you cause it'll make your taters runny. You can also add chicken or beef broth for a little extra flavor, sour cream, chives, butter, pretty much anything can go into it.

I don't have any precise recipe because it's always been one of those..watch mom do it till you know how sort of things.

I haven't made the artichoke dip.. and I'd hate to give you a recipe I haven't personally tried... I'll look into it.

anyone have any gravy recipes?? can't have mashed potatoes without gravy!

Mmmm nummy, thanks.

Actually, it gets a bit interesting. Eric's got a very strict dietary preference. And yeah, I will totally try the patatas (southern pronouncation) soon.

I plan to make a curry dish for the family, which I'm hoping if I use chicken, Eric will try. He's been good about that. Found out that he likes gyro lamb meat.

And it's pronounced EURO, not gyro. I know, those crazy Greeks and their spelling... what'cha gonna do...?
