The soldier nodded, pulling a smile onto his face that warmed his mien like a sunrise warmed the sky. Firstly, he buttoned his shirt which had been partly undone by his Nameless and fixed his collar. He took the jacket from her hands and deftly slipped one arm after another into the warm cotton lined sleeves. He shifted until it rested over his shoulders comfortably and then he smiled down at Odessa.
"Thanks for bringing back my jacket," he said, his strawberry blond hair framed by the cold grey clouds of the darkening evening, "It's not so cold anymore."

Odessa also nodded and reached up to take her friend's hand. "Good," she said, casting her gaze back to the ground. She kicked a rock, watched it skitter away, and then looked back up with a shy smile. "Thank you, Bassy," she mumbled, holding tightly to his arm.

His amber eyes followed the rock as it skidded away across the pale concrete of his master's driveway. He squeezed her hand gently with hers, looking down to raise his brows along with a humble smile, quiet and honest, the kind of smile that one who has seen much sorrow would give, the kind of smile of one who was at peace with himself while his sleep was riddled with nightmares. It was a wise smile.
"An honor," the soldier said, gripping the child's hand with his own callused fingers, "An honor, indeed."
The two figures traced their way back to the daemonology shop underneath a heavy overcast sky with jackets on their shoulders and their hands intertwined.
