Yes, it's official. Summit is going to make New Moon into a movie now.Summit Entertainment SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES TWILIGHT SEQUEL - NEW MOON Los Angeles, CA November 22, 2008 — Summit Entertainment announced today that the studio is officially moving forward with the production of NEW MOON, the second installment of its filmed franchise TWILIGHT, the action-packed, modern day vampire love story. The movie will be based on the second novel in author Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series titled, New Moon. The first movie in the TWILIGHT franchise, the self-titled TWILIGHT, arrived in theaters this weekend to sold-out showings. Stephenie Meyer stated, "I don't think any other author has had a more positive experience with the makers of her movie adaptation than I have had with Summit Entertainment. I'm thrilled to have the chance to work with them again on NEW MOON." Now, what kind of chicanery is this?
Honestly, how are they going to make New Moon into a full movie? There isn't much of a plot. It's just Bella gets "dumped" by Edward, spends some time with Jacob, jumps off cliff, goes to Italy, meet Volturi, go home with Edward. Unless they plan to milk the Volturi for it's got since that's pretty much the most suspenseful part.
Also, when exactly is it going to come out? If it's going to be 2009, it's going to fail. All the fangirls know that Edward isn't in New Moon much, so there went 50 million dollars. [/exagerrationnnnn] Twilight is only enjoying this box office success due to devoted fangirls. Anyone who just wanted to watch the movie without reading the book and not being a fan aren't going to come back since the first one wasn't spectacular. Also in 2009, Harry Potter is coming our as well as Transformers 2. No way in hell can teenage girls beat out either of those fanbases.
So, what are your thoughts on the sequel coming out? Do you think that they'll do all the books?

I can't believe Summit it doing the sequel. If I was Stephenie Meyer, I would demand that someone else do it after the dismal job they did on Twilight. I can't believe she's calling it a "positive experience"! I think it will flop, since fans know what to expect now.

So I heard...
I think New Moon will do well, but not as well as Twilight. Yeah, I'm not looking forward so much to Bella slipping into her uber depression (not making light of depression, it's just not the most entertaining thing to watch, you know?) But I am looking forward to the wolves. Though I really hope they don't make them into some sort of CG giganta wolves like they're supposed to be in the books. Real wolves would work for me. And maybe more Jacob and his friends...and of course, the Volturi.

It'll be interesting to see a movie that focuses on Jacob just as much (if not more) than Edward. I'm pretty excited for the movie! (But I'm biased, since I'm Team Jacob AND liked the Twilight movie.)

I mean, I did skip over the fact that she's depressed and of course I didn't go into detail, but there still isn't a lot to New Moon. New Moon is basically setting up for the next two books and a whole movie for that book is ridiculous to me. It's still vital to the series, but doesn't have much of anything on it's own. And, personally, I think that they're going to butcher New Moon horribly, horribly, horribly due to the way they ended Twilight. SPOILER FOR MOVIE--- I mean, with Victoria's little catwalk into camera at the end during Prom HAS to mean that Summit is planning to bring her into the sequel and we all know that never happened in New Moon. :/ They wouldn't do that to the lover of the main villian of the first movie if they didn't plan something for her in the next movie.

My friends and I are really excited about New Moon, and most of us are Edward Fans. We all just love the books and the movies are our dreams come true. That, and New Moon is my favorite of the books.

I just wonder how it's going to go because there will be a lot of special effects they have to deal with. Apparently Taylor is already hitting the gym to start to look "buff" O_O
I was kind of disappointed in Twilight by my co-worker loves it and has seen it four times at least.

I loved the movie. Sure, they changed alot, but I feel like they kept the overall atmosphere, and the visuals were amazing. That being said, there is alot they could do with the second book. They could focus more on developing the Cullens, stretching out the begguinning since they didn't do that in the last movie, they could build on the Edward-Charlie tension, they HAVE to develope the whole Jacob -Bella relationship aswell as introduce most of the wolf-pack. They have to lead Bella into finding out about the wolves and explaining more of the leggends. They also have the cliff-diving, the phone call, and Laurant returning/Victoria still being after Bella. They also really need to focus and juice up the Volturi (SP) since they didn't mention them at all in the last movie and they become a large part of the series. That part where Alice and Bella go to save Edward and meet the Volturi could easily burn twenty minutes if not more of the film. Half an hour at least is needed to develope Jacob-Bella. Another twenty minutes to build up and put into action the B-day catastrophe, ten minutes at least for Edward to decide he is going to leave. Twenty to introduce and explain the wolf-pack, five and ten to continue the Victoria plot, and that only leaves 15 minutes spread throughout the entire film for Bella to angst over Edward. blaugh I think the film will be fine. Besides, Robert Pattinson will be in it, just not for as long. His fans will still come.

twilight was...okay (charlie cracked me up) but it still sucked! i'm pretty sure new moon obviously won't do as good of a job in getting fans in the theatres now since most of the ppl (that i know anyway) were pissed off at twilight but i'm still gonna watch new moon just cuz i wanna and plus i wanna see if summit has grown some sense, maybe they could show some parts of what edward's doing while bella's being depressed. and plus i really wanna see wut their gonna do about the werewolves....i dont know if thats good or bad.

Apparently Bella was a track star. xD Twilight's special effects made me laugh so hard. xD Kinda took me back to the old Star Trek episodes.

I agree with those of you who were a little let down when they watched 'Twilight' for the first time. About this official release concerning 'New Moon' though, I'm kind of looking forward to it. For one, the director has changed. Even people that helped produce the original mentioned that they didn't all agree with some of the things Hardwicke (the former director) was doing on set. From what I've heard already, it seems like this script is a lot better. Two, I've also heard they are going to include Victoria a lot more in the movie. I personally think this is a good idea since the whole book is basically with Jacob and with Bella hearing voices. Third, Weitz (the new director) has worked with a lot of effects and such in other movies, so hopefully the wolves won't look deformed and scary looking...

You all are also forgetting that despite all of the hype, Twilight was a low budget film. Now that they have made money hand over fist on it, they hopefully will have more to spend on special effects and editing.
