My friend's spirit guide is a black wolf with yellow eyes. (He's really pretty) We first saw him in her backyard. About a year after we first saw him he came to her in a dream and told her his name, which I don't remember now, but ah well.
At the time we were seeing a lot of weird stuff. A big black cat with red eyes, a large white dog (this one I saw quit up and personal) and at one point she saw a rather small dragon in her yard.
There must have been a lot of clashing psychic energies in her yard. Flowers were blooming at odd times and overnight a ten foot tree grew next to her fence. Strange times, those were.

Strange times, those were. o.O 10 foot tree?! Yeah, it was a scraggly little thing, with fuzzy leaves. We took a cutting to the botany teacher but he didn't know what it was.

i had barely stepped out of the broom closet when i found a cat sitting at my front door i let him in and fed him a few bits of my imitation crab sticks then snuck him back outside before my dad came home from work an hour later my dad let him in i guess he sat out there for some time and for the next month the cat stopped by house every day and i fed him my scraps and let him outside when he had to use the bathroom then he stopped coming and my parents got my brother a dog because i had a stray cat i was taken care of so my mom decided to take me to get my own cat it was at the humane society and i could have either a mean little kitten that had not been trained and have noneutered kitty or one of the pretty strays they have found as examined all the cages for the one i liked best there was a grey tabby cat just the kind you would find running wild on a farm or in an alley and it was rubbing back and forth against its cage purring and i stepped closer to examine it and it hooked me by shirt and pulled me over to it and then i let it out of the cage and took her home her name was TabbS an abbreviation for her full name Silver Tabby and i promised her that she would never have to go in a cage again it toke her a few days to get used to the house but when i doing tarot or when i started using a ouija board she was always in the room with me to cuddle the card or cuddle the board and when i started to light candles and cast my spells under the stars she was and is always there to drink from my bowl of water nibble the flowers i had picked and sit by my side and join me in meditation

That sounds a lot like my cat, Drizz't. I can't do anything magical without him getting underfoot or playing with my components. xp But, its' worth it because he makes such a good battery!

I find it appripoe that this be teh first topic i shed my interest in. Earlier there had been asked a question about the use of meditation to find your guide. I gues si can answer that because i have done such.
First off as with most magick make sure to form a protective circle which i am sure most around here are apt enough to do. them set up your most comfortable meditation area. I personally have alwasy enjoyed meditation in water. Set yoru favorite incense, for it alwasy helps with meditation. Finally you are ready to go into meditation, using actice visualization project a bubble of energy around you, a conduit if you must call it that, and inside it mold ot to your liking. Once you having done this focus on the task at heand , project out energy sending yoru feelings and longing along with it. in turn your guide, in essence shall hear it and come to you. Mine took her time comming , Pverros decided to wait til i had nearly given up before she had come to me. When they do arive, do test them and see if they are truly what they say they are, because we dont wantto invite something malicious into our live right? If you have deemed it safe then hopefully you have brefreinded it, and it shall stay. My Pverros comes and goes as she pleases, but she is never far away, just down in a nearby gully wandering around like she had when she was once alive.
once you come out of teh deep meditation , be sure to dispell any energy that was left over from eth task, and ofcourse do what you normaly do for cleansing after any magickal experince.
I do hope i have been of some help, i really do wish i could have found that one web article on it i used to have. But if you want a book reference, Michael Harner's Way of the Shaman gives a different aspect into this practice, or Oberon zell ravenhearts Grimiore for the Apprentice wizard may be able to help aswell. Heh, when I used to be into Wicca, when I was a lot younger, I developed an astral familiar. She was a unicorn named Nimue. She would communicate with me through dreams and help me pass exams when I was most tense. Then I began to adopt more familiars and needed her help less and less. Eventually she just faded away. I didn't need her anymore, but the essence of whatever that spirit was, "unicorn" or not, I felt very loved and protected.
