Zephyiote would have liked to lay there longer. But the drive to continue outweighed the pleasure of calm, and she pushed herself to her feet, shaking gingerly to dislodge the wet grass sticking to her. "We should get going..." she murmured, starting to trot off in the direction of their beach campground. "Come join me when you are ready!" she called over her shoulder, weaving her way through the trees.

The sand was pleasant and warm underfoot. It was tempting to lay down again. But she would ignore that want. She had learned through repetition to ignore that which she wanted. Survival was easiest that way. She shouldered the pack she had so recently dug through, scolding herself for forgetting to refill the canteens. Oh well. There was a little water left. And if they flew at a half decent pace...they could go to the fire island, and be back sometime in the early evening. Besides, it wasn't like they needed to drink every day. Though under optimal conditions she would.

She picked up a handful of sand, and let it trickle through her fingers. Marveling at how so many thousands of individuals could make up one flow. To thinkn of all the grains of sand on the beach! One could spend an entire lifetime counting them and never be done!

She shook her head, trying to focus back on their flight plan for the day...it was with reluctance. She was eager for action! She hoped Florica would get back soon, so they could leave.

Florica barely heard Zephyiote leave, she was enjoying her nap so much. However Besnik was the first to watch Zephyiote leave and see Florica not stir a claw. Giving a sigh, Besnik leaped down and landed next to Florica to urge her awake once more.

"Oh dear, what has come over me! Where did Zephyiote go?"

Florica quickly stood, water dripped from every part of her body except her head. Besnik jumped back in surprise and to avoid any excess water reaching him. Florica calmed down and looked around and figured she had gone back to the beach where they once were. Spreading her wings, she crouched down and prepared herself. Besnik saw was was coming and gave himself a head start. The powerful muscles in her legs propelled her upwards with a great beat of her wings gave a gust to further propel herself up through the tree tops. Once the top was breached Florica dove horizontally towards the beach. Besnik followed in a slight frenzy to catch up with the painter.

The sun had risen to the middle of the sky whenever Florica made it back to Zeohyiote and landed lightly next to her. Everything looked packed up and ready to go. Florica had a gleam of excitement in her eye. Finally, they would be on their way to go. Every step was an adventure with Zephyiote.

"I'm ready when you are Zephy."

Florica lunged herself back into the air and kept her height steady with light beats of her wings.

"If you need me to carry anything, just let me know. Especially since you're hurt..."

Florica looked at Zephyiote's wound again, and it still looked fairly bad. However, she knew Zephy could take it. The only problem was how much could she take? Besnik finally caught up and landed next to Zephyiote with a few deep huffs and looked up to Florica. He shook excess sand off his body as he leapt back into the air and clutched to Florica's shoulder.

Zephyiote laughed, and found it to be rather pleasant. When she laughed...her side didn't bother her so much. She would try hard to put herself in a better mood. "Thank you for your consideration, but the pack is not nearly as heavy as it was when we set out. I shall be fine."

Zephyiote loved taking off almost as much as she loved flying. But she didn't want to put any strain on her side by using her wings. She would use the Pan'Lun method. Which, while not as fun, was much easier, and less work for her body. She simply seemed to rear up, and kick off, sliding through the air like a massive serpent, her wings still pinned to her side. She missed the feel of the air on them. The way she hung for a brief moment in the struggle of gravity versus lift. The way the air gathered, bundled, and rolled underneath sensitive wing membrane. It was a brilliant thing. But it wasn't a big deal. Rather take it easy than to over-work herself. It wasn't like she'd have any place to rest over the expanse of ocean they were crossing.

"Let us go!" she cried, a triumphant smile on her face, now that her goal was so close to fruitition. An army of paints couldn't stop her now! She clapped her hands together a few times, worming around in the air leisurely. She waited a moment, before turning, and heading off at a steady pace towards where she knew the island to be.

It will not be long now...

"Quite an adventure we have had, eh? I am curious as to what will befall us once we get to the island."

With a huge grin plastered on Florica's face, her wings beat forward as her sleek body cut through the air in the direction of the island. This was exciting. Finally the adventure was beginning to unroll, and maybe... just maybe... Florica will learn more about Zephyiote than any other painter might know. What was in store on the island for them? What would they find and how would they find it? Florica shook her head of the thoughts and pushed herself forward to put herself next to Zephy.

"Quite an adventure indeed."

With the smile still plastered across her face, the beach began to fade into the distance as the water beneath them got deeper and deeper. There was no turning back now.
Besnik continued to cling to Florica's back as the air passed over him. Normally he would fly next to Florica, however, at the speeds the two painters were going he would have been left behind back towards the beach.

The sun began to sink and touch the very edge of the waters, forcing colors to appear over the sky and reflected back in the water. However before it got too dark, the island reared it's ugly head and cast it's shadow over the darkening water.

"Shall we reach the beach and rest for the night?"

Florica's wings were starting to wear out with Besnik's added weight, and she was sure Zephyiote was starting to wear down with her recent injury. However she was more than willing to carry on if Zephyiote insisted.

Dozens of words came to mind when Zephy saw the infamous island. Not one of them was pleasant. The rock itself seemed malformed, and damaged. It was blackened in some places, gouged, and thrown about haphazardly. They seemed to suck in the light, and the color was a dirty rust red against the darkening sky. Even the water seemed hostile. While over the ocean, Zephyiote had fancied the ocean beautiful. While the sun was setting, it was a myriad of pastel brilliance, pinks and purples and blues and oranges. But it was as if the island itself was sucking life and color from its surroundings. For the water appeared grey, stagnant, and dead. It was rather disheartening. The great beast of rock seemed to be reaching a giant stony hand out to them, obsidian finger speres projecting up into the sky like the battle ramparts on a castle. Was the hand truly welcoming them. Was it saying that she belonged in an ugly place like this? Or, perhaps...was it the beginning. The angler's lure before it snaps up its prey. Zephyiote felt a little shiver down her spine, but decided not to share her thoughts with Florica. Fears were best kept to oneself.

She looked over at Florica and forced a smile, hoping the other Painter would assume it a hundred percent sincere. Zephyiote had always wanted this, but...she was uneasy. Anxious. Scared. This was the culmination of a lot of things. What if she didn't find what she was looking for? She darted ahead, making a soft landing on the sand. The water lapped at her feet, and she shied away from it. It was warm as blood.

"Are you coming?" Zephyiote called out to Florica, hoping that her actions had answered her companion's questions. It would be dark soon. Zephyiote wanted to be asleep before then. She didn't want the...pleasure... of seeing the island at night. She wanted to be asleep by then.

She picked her way up the beach, the sand coarse and grating against her feet. Her face twitched, betraying her annoyance at her less than ideal surroundings, as she settled on top of a boulder with a flat spot barely large enough for her to curl up on. It was better than sleeping on a pile of rocks, but it was hardly comfortable.

This is...strange. Her appetite wasn't with her, and even if she was hungry, she didn't feel like she could bring herself to eat. Not in this godforsaken place at the edge of the world. No. She would wait. She pulled off her pack, but held it ready, in case Florica should like a little something.

"Are you hungry at all?" she called out.

As the sun continued to sink, the large mountain looked more and more daunting. Florica looked below her as the pastel colorings that reflected from the sun seemed to disappear as they neared the island. Thoughts of fear and cowardice began to sink in as the great mountain loomed over the two like a shadow.

She could not just give up now. Not when they were so close. What would Zephyiote think if Florica left without a word? The look of anticipation and hope that Florica once saw when the pair began speaking of the journey ran across her mind. There was no way. Florica could not just bail on Zephyiote like that... not when Zephyiote was such a good friend to her and with all they have been through already within the past few days...

Florica pushed herself forward once again with her fading energy and landed as lightly as she could upon the coarse rocks that were strewn across the beach. This was no natural beach. This was no natural place. Picking her body up once again into the air, Florica pushed herself towards the large boulders that Zephyiote had already found. She perched herself on a semi-flat boulder near Zephyiote and made herself as comfortable as she could. Granted she slept outside in the open most nights, but she also preferred to sleep in the soft, warm sand. Maybe even the cool grass that held dew early in the morning. A large, cold boulder was most definitely not anywhere near the top of the list.

Besnik slid off Florica's back after she made herself comfortable and landed next to her. He stretched and ruffled all his feathers to take away some of the stiffness. Since he was asleep a good portion of the journey over here, he figured he should watch over the two, just in case.

With the mention of food, Florica's stomach turned. Something about this place... it almost made her sick.

"Not really actually. That bear is still digesting."

Florica gave a sheepish chuckle and grinned. She did not want to admit to Zephyiote how this place made her feel. Luckily, Florica was all up for a dare and a new adventure.
