Ah. Well, I checked around the site, and apparently the Stiletto Extreme isn't available in the US. xP

bummer mrgreen

anyway, i'm quite seriously considering the LTD F-154

I think it will do me good for my basselines. I try to do a lot of "J-rock / punk" style basselines, playing root notes with a pick and connecting them with chromatics or octaves. A good example :

It's not that i dont like Fenders, I love them, I think everybody does. They sound awsome and look great! within their genre...

If i was going to do a cover of any punk rock / funk / blues band, and many more, i would use a Fender for sure.

But with my band we play alternative rock and metal, using loads of distortion / overdrive / fuzz effects.. I find that Esp's, schecters, ibanez's sound better for that type of music.

Schecter stilettos are really similar to fender basses in terms of feel, very similar necks and stuff. (I have an Elite) I will say that the EMG pickups are kinda lack luster for my taste but it isn't so terrible that you can't get any tone out of them, I don't remember what Pick ups the other models use. What I would suggest is going to a store, picking up a Stiletto, and picking up a ESP F- what ever one you are looking at, and try them out then go on. I can say that Stilettos have very similar necks to fender basses, and ESP probably does not.
The ESP F-104 is definitely going to be cheaper, and the only thing I would do with it is change out the pick ups, but it would be an improvement of a s quire for sure.
Even with a schecter I would probably swap out the pick ups after a time.

You don't have like a Guitar Center or Sam Ash? well actually they might not stock them.. IDK.

For pickups both companies usually use active, so it would take a lot to swap them out with passives, but I guess just look for some humbuckers from like Seymour Duncan, or Bartolinie (probably spelt that wronge) or Dimarzio, those are what I prefer, Dim's for bass, Duncans for guitar, though Barts are effen nice, they aren't quite my sound personally. Pick ups are tough to choose, and unless you know what you are doing really well, don't pick alone.

And of course you can just leave the stocks in there, I'm really picky about sounds so I'm gonna swap them out eventually, but it isn't a huge deal right now either.

Nah, no store like that here in Switzerland^^... all they have are like 2fenders, 152 squiers, 1 schecter and occasionally an ibanez sad so i haven't got to try a lot out.

All F series ESP's are active yes...

I think I'll look for new pickups when i have the damn thing xp

Btw, anyone here know how Reita (from the Gazette) gets that kind of sound out of his bass ? http://www.espguitars.co.jp/artist/reita/index.html
- pick
- low action
what else ?

i was thinking maybe a lot of Lo-Mid...
Anyone know a good guide for pick technique btw ?
