I live in apartments where almost nobody recycles. It's a pretty big complex which means multiple garbage areas, and in mine alone, I always see huge cardboard boxes and whatnot in the trash bin. It might be because the placement of the trash/recycle bins makes it so that you can fold down the lid to the trash but not the recycling, and maybe people think it's too much of an effort to hold open a bin with one hand and throw things away with another. I find that a poor excuse. Sometimes I actually will take out the empty boxes I see on the top of the trash bin and move them to the recycle bin, washing my hands afterward, of course.
So, to the point of this topic.
In an effort to get more people in my apartments to recycle, I was thinking of getting some friends together and having "free cupcakes for recyclers" tables near the trash areas. I would obviously have to talk to somebody in the leasing office first, but I can't really see what the problem with it would be. Maybe they'd be afraid of the cupcakes, but if they were, I could store-buy them instead of making them.
What do you think about this idea? Good? Bad? Please vote, and post here to elaborate!

I do think this is a good thing, but you'll have to keep on it, and it's a big commitment, do you have to have a batch of cupcakes around ALL the time? Or is it going to be on set days?
Are people that recycle one or two cans going to be getting cupcakes or is there a minimum?

It wouldn't be 24-7 definitely. I could figure out days to invite friends (and cupcakes smile ) over, like the first Saturday of each month, or the last Friday of every other month.
Hmm... I hadn't thought of that. I was thinking of giving cupcakes to the people who have separate cans for recycling, or who're moving in/out and are using a lot of boxes, but if somebody was drinking a soda and wanted a cupcake, they would still be recycling if they threw that one bottle into the bin. Maybe I could have a minimum of, "5 recyclable items," so that if somebody just wanted a cupcake, they'd have to go back to their house and get some recyclable trash first, and if they were going to do that, I can't see why they can't just sort their recycling out.
