Enriched Recycling
May 17 Monday
Color of the day: White Incense of the day: Lily
Compost is made of decayed organic matter. By making your own compost, you can enrich your garden, lawn, or houseplants. It also gets rid of biodegradable kitchen and yard waste. To make a compost pile, alternate layers of “wet/green” and “dry/brown” materials. Green: grass clippings, overripe fruit, vegetable peels, etc. Brown: dead leaves, twigs, wood chips, shredded paper, etc. Water the pile to the consistency of a damp sponge. Encourage your compost pile to decay efficiently by using magic. Walk three times widdershins (counterclockwise) around the pile. With each circuit, chant: Green and brown Death and birth Rot it down Into earth Visualize the beneficial power of decay breaking down the material into crumbly black compost. Every two weeks, turn the pile with a shovel and repeat the chant. By the end of the summer your compost should be ready to use.

Mustard Seed Protection Tactics
May 18 Tuesday
Color of the day: Gray Incense of the day: Bayberry
In the early days of the French Republic, a new calendar was designed based on the natural rhythms of nature. It dedicated each month to the season and each day to an animal, plant, mineral, or tool. In the French Republic calendar, today is called The Flowering Wild Mustard. Use mustard seeds in this spell for protection. To protect yourself from a cold or headache, prepare a foot bath from crushed mustard seed and hot water. Visualize the pressure and congestion breaking up and evaporating. During the flu season, carry mustard seeds in a red flannel bag to protect against illness. Bury mustard seeds beneath your doorstep to keep negativity from entering your home. To protect your lover from harm, place his or her name, an agate, and mustard seed in a white flannel bag and keep it on your person during times of danger or distress.

Vinalia (Roman)
August 19 Thursday
Color of the day: Purple Incense of the day: Clove
Today is one of the two dates that the Romans celebrated Vinalia—the dedication of libations to Jupiter. In honor of Vinalia, find a way to enjoy your favorite wine or fruit juice. Share with friends, and pour some on the ground as an offering to the deity of your choice. A toast can be a kind of spell—be aware of your intent and then drink to it. Here’s one you can try, since drinking to good health is a popular toast: Health, wealth, happiness, May this drink be blessed— Peace, love, good fortune’s kiss, May our lives be blessed. This can be done to ask for a good harvest in the fall if you grow, or if you make your own wine or juice, why not start a batch today? Raise a glass and make a toast. As they say in Italian, salute!

Horse-Powered Travel Spell
August 24 Tuesday
Color of the day: Red Incense of the day: Cinnamon
It’s one of the last weeks of summer, and many will be returning from vacations, heading off to college, or off seeking one last summer adventure. To protect your own favorite travelers, including yourself, call upon the power of the horse. Many cultures, not the least of which are the ancient Celts and the American Indians of the Plains, revered the horse as an animal of power, whose willingness to convey us, fight with us, plow our fields, and pull our loads changed history. Even today, we reckon the power of an engine in horsepower. When someone is off on a trip, bless and present them with a picture of small figurine of a horse, and bid them keep it with them as they travel. As you say good-bye, or head out yourself, envision a herd of horses running on ahead, ensuring both security and excitement.

Sunday
Color of the day: Gold Incense of the day: Frankincense
The wheel of the year is turning, and autumn is on the horizon. As fall approaches, this is a good time of year to change your personal style. This could be anything—a new wardrobe, hair, makeup, diet, or anything else you wish to change. Write this list on an index card using a pencil. Place this card in your pocket or purse and carry it with you wherever you go to make your transformation. This could include the salon, department store, gym, etc. As you complete a goal on your list, erase that item off your index card. Continue carrying your card until you feel your goals have been met. If you need to boost your confidence during this spell, light an orange candle in a spicy scent. Gaze at its flame and “see” the new you as you wish to be. Have fun!
