He glanced anxiously behind him, involuntarily shuddering at the hiss, and it was quite evident that he feared Lamia far more than Martel. Perhaps it was because Lamia had the face of fear, and Martel looked almost normal... almost conquerable. But, he was slowly coming to realize just how much this situation was out of his hands. There were two powerful demons in the room, and he knew almost nothing about Martel herself. Merihem wouldn't jump to his rescue if he managed to induce a fight, and what could he on his own do to Lucifuge or to Lamia? Nothing. As this sank in, he grew almost panicked, trying desperately to see a way out from between the two opposing forces. There was none.
Soah couldn't die, not when Neil had gone through so much for him. He wouldn't let himself die, and in a last act of defiance he stood his ground, indigo eyes unwavering as they stared into Martel's face. He had no choice, really, but like hell he was going to pretend to be happy about this. Yet, he didn't want to press his luck, he didn't want to be so defiant that she decided just to have him done away with.
"Okay," he said, his voice constrained in his tight throat. Oh, hell, he did not like this, not one little bit, but what choice did he have?

She smiled and joined Soah on his step, leaned forward and kissed his temple lightly. "We promised Akedia we wouldn't harm you," she said, by way of explanation. "Our normal method, We cannot lie, constitutes harm." Lamia receded into the shadows, Martel stepped lightly down the stairs, and Lucifuge subsided into his seat. His divided loyalties were clear on his face, even to the most casual of observers.
"You may go up now," said the mistress, loud enough for Soah to hear. "Meet your brothers and sisters, darling Superbia."
