Thought you might enjoy this interesting prayer given in Kansas at the opening session of their Senate. It seems prayer still upsets some people. When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the usual generalities, but this is what they heard:

Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we have done.

We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values.

We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery.

We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.

We have killed our unborn and called it choice.

We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable.

We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem..

We have abused power and called it politics.

We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition.

We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression.

We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.

Search us, Oh, God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free.
Amen!

The response was immediate. A number of legislators walked out during the prayer in protest. In 6 short weeks, Central Christian Church, where Rev. Wright is pastor, logged more than 5,000 phone calls with only 47 of those calls responding negatively. The church is now receiving international requests for copies of this prayer from India , Africa and Korea .

Commentator Paul Harvey aired this prayer on his radio program, 'The Rest of the Story,'and received a larger response to this program than any other he has ever aired.

With the Lord's help, may this prayer sweep over our nation and wholeheartedly become our desire so that we again can be called 'one nation under God.'

If possible, please pass this prayer on to your friends. 'If you don't stand for something, you will fall for everything.'

Well... another interpretation is that he is being controversial to get attention. Everyone desires to make thing's happen for the will of God, but I don't know if his speech was necessarily one of the good ways to go about doing that.

But I don't want to be overly critical either, there are things to consider in his prayer for certain.

Whatever his intent, I rather agree with his sentiments. The world is a sad place with out the influence of the Lord.

Granted his prayer might not have been meant for everyone. But I think the whole point of it was just to point out how sad the world really is. And how much people just tend to accept.

In todays day and age people just tolerate what's wrong and shrug it off saying 'I'm only human' This generations has more excuses then any other. And even Christians do it. That's what's really sad about it. People who follow God say they believe in him and believe in his son just sit back and let things happen.

"The world is going to hell, there's nothing I can do to stop it." No, none of us can stop it. No more then we can stop the anti christ from coming. Sooner or later is WILL happen. But the question is, do we just sit back and let it happen and watch people we KNOW follow along with the lies? Or do we stop up and tell them and SHOW them the truth? If we sit back and let things happen and not speak up for what we know is right, we are no better then the person sinning.

It's not our job to save people, but it IS our job to tell people about Christ. And we have been slacking off on that job. To scared of what the world might think. So we spend our time trying to fit in. Blend into the world so that maybe, if we were on the inside we could change it that way. But if you are spending your time blending into the world pretty soon they won't even be able to tell what or who you really are.

A good observation. Although we aren't put here on earth to judge the world are we? (I am not certain about what all of the bible says about this, but I do remember the verse 'Judge not or you too will be judged.' The most important thing we should do is lead people to Christ.

I have heard that in the bible the apostle Paul writes that Christians should participate in how society is run, but I don't know the verses that back this assertion up.

(Of course within a church, judgements need to be made. We aren't supposed to allow people to willingly continue in sin and just keep showing up like nothing is wrong.)

Yes this one is tough. We want to be in the world but not of the world. I am still not entirely sure how I should act around non-Christians, who I work with or go to college with. I always let people know I am a christian when there is an opportune time... It's just tough when they talk about aspects of their lives... and I don't want to be just annoying/angering them with no benefit by pointing out their sins.

I could point out that according to my beliefs what they are doing is wrong... but if they don't even believe in God or the bible then what good is it?
