Weylin had been about to destroy the shadow creatures when he noticed the man who walked among them. It gave him pause for a moment as he tried to figure out why they were not attacking him. And then he understood.
"And I suppose you are the one trying to kill them," the young man replied. He did not attack the creatures just yet, but he stayed on his guard just in case they should suddenly attack him or in case the man tried something.

"You believe you are better than them? The 'common man'?" he laughed lightly. "How amusing. I hadn't expected them to have some forlorn hero. No matter, you will be dealt with exactly like them." He smiled softly, though it was impossible to see. He was glad his theory had been disproven. He needed to know, inside his heart, that all of these people weren't as evil and as maliciouis as he had seen. "How far do you intend for me to go? How many people must I destroy?" This time, it didn't look like he wanted an answer.
He raised his arm, a long white sleeve trailing behind it. He made a flicking motion with his wrist and the creatures of darkness charged at Weylin. They didn't seem any stronger than they were before, but what was different was that they came in masses. The man stood back, merely watching. His posture was that of someone greatly amused.

The suddenness with which the creatures came at him startled Weylin. Instinctively he drew up walls around himself, jagged sheets of rock that shielded him from the sudden attack for long enough to regain his composure and his confidence.
So this man intended to destroy as many people as he could. Well, Weylin was not going to let that happen. He felt as though he finally understood why he had been given these powers. The Earth had known something was going to happen and had entrusted him with its protection. He could not let down his very planet.
With a violent motion Weylin shattered the walls of stone, sending shards like shrapnel flying outward into the oncoming mass of creatures.

The creatures had begun to climb the wall that was thrown up in front of them. By the time the first shadow grabbed the top of it, the wall came down in shards. Most of the creatures were destroyed much the same way as before. Their masses flung onto the crowd of onlookers, easilly covering up passageways. The villain laughed more than cackled. He managed to stay standing despite the peals of laughter. He stopped just as suddenly as he had started. "Was that your plan? Kill them before I did? My... I must say you're doing a very good job of it."

Weylin cursed loudly and colorfully as he saw that he had done more harm than good. It looked like he would have to change tactics. He had to stop those creatures from splattering everywhere when they were killed.
This attack would take him much more concentration, but it might just prove to be the best way to avoid collateral damage. He drew sheets of rock from the ground, surrounding the nearest one of the creatures and with a flick of his wrist they collapsed atop it, attempting to crush the creature.

The splatter wasn't even noticable this time, though it did leave a nice mark in the sidewalk. Ian glared at Weylin, it seems the boy can at least think straight... Ian took a step forward. He had everything timed that needed to happen before midnight. After midnight, chaos was supposed to take to the streets until morning. When morning finally came, the people were to help one another, much as they did after every great tragedy. And Ian intended to continue this until the aftermath became a basic mannerism.
"Enough of this, boy," he said. It looked almost as if he wanted to fight Weylin himself. He reached out in front of him and grabbed a long blade made of shadow. Easily manipulating the weapon, it could become anything he wanted it to, and of any thickness. Ian smirked, something his adversary wouldn't be able to see.

So he wanted to go one on one, did he? While that made Weylin nervous, he did his best not to show any fear. He could do this. Tae-bo was a martial art, wasn't it? He just had to speed up the moves and he would know how to fight.
The redhead did not draw a weapon. His weapon was beneath his feet, and beneath the feet of his enemy. This thought was was brought his first idea. How easy would it be to keep the man completely immobile? Unable to attack with any effectiveness?
With a motion of both hands he drew the earth up around the man's ankles, attempting to encase his legs in solid stone.

Ian's idea was almost the same as Weylin's, his only entailed the entire body in shadow, rather than just the legs. He forced the shadow to embrace the boy in front of him.

The attack came so quickly that Weylin was not able to shield himself, though it likely would not have been effective anyway. Shadows were insubstantial. They were not something that you could touch or, in Weylin's case, stab or stop with a wall of solid rock.

Ian's shadows were a little different though. They became solid on his command and his command only. The particular shadow that was being a nuisance did this when it finished grasping the vigilante. Unfortunately for our villain, Ian was too focused on his own attack to notice Weylin's own grapple. The moment Ian tried to step forward, which was the minute he was sure Weylin was stuck into place, almost caused him to tople forward. Only a quick movement of his hips made it so he could manage to stand straight once again.
His eyes darted to his feet, and even through the darkness he could see what the problem was. "Earth," he whispered. "It is remorseful that we are on opposite sides." It was obvious who he was talking to.

As the shadow enveloped him in its grasp the young man began to panic. It was in emotional situations like this that he was unable to control his powers. His effort at trapping his enemy stopped when the rock was halfway up the man's calves as he was distracted from the process of molding the rock to his legs.
In his desperation to be free on the confining darkness, spears of earth shot up around him, attempting to cut through the shadow.

Ian almost smirked when the earth shards started to slaughter the people the irish hero was trying to save. But it was only a matter of milliseconds before some of the shards made their way to Ian. He had lost almost all of his mobility thanks to his planted feet, so dodging was very difficult. He sliced at some of the shards with his shadow-blade, but that only did so well. A few of the shards even managed to hit him, some leaving only bruises while others broke the skin.
