This game has done fairly well for me (I didn't buy it, my boyfriend picked it up for me by other means). The kanji & the phrasebook really helped out too. I honestly didn't notice the mistakes that people are talking about either....

I hear it has a lot of errors, like wrong stroke orders.
It really does. If you already know some basic Japanese, you can skip some of the beginning lessons, but not very many of them, unfortunately. It still forces you to go through half of the kana lessons, which were ridden with mistakes. Even if you already know the proper stroke order, it marks you as wrong.

I really wasn't a fan of the game. I tried to get through as much of the lessons as possible before I dismissed it, but I could only play the same mind-numbing, unproductive vocabulary games in romaji so many times.

If someone else has gotten any use out of it, I'd love to hear about it, though.

I also found the verb conjugation EXTREMELY confusing. God help any poor soul trying to understand it. It didn't provide any translation as to what any of the conjugations would mean, it mercilessly threw you into godan verbs and only barely explained it, it didn't let you practice. I really don't like it at all.

I thought the game was decent... Maybe not the best way to learn...

I mainly find it useful for reviewing things learned elsewhere, though.

I have a question for those against it though: A few people have mentioned that it has the wrong stroke order in the kana lessons. Why does stroke order matter? They look the same in the end no matter the order.... Just asking, because I tend to ignore stroke order and write everything in the most natural.comfortable way for me.

Stroke order is important for a variety of reasons.

The most obvious reason is understanding calligraphy. With the proper stroke order you can make sense of the brush strokes, which aren't clearly separated like they are in print or when written with a pen.

Similarly, getting the correct stroke order helps ensure that the character's shape is correct when writing them yourself.

It's also useful to have the stroke order correct when looking up characters, especially if you have one of those handwriting recognition programs.
