It was one of those quiet evenings on Mt. Manu, devoid of the conflicts of dominating one's territory or any of that. The night sky was already spotted with twinkling stars, and the orchestra of the nocturnal critters filled the background subtly. Within moments, cheerful humming could be heard as a fellow fire Palui was making his way to the base of the volcano to a certain spot, rolling a coconut by pushing it with his muzzle while he was at it. The flames upon the tip of his ears provided him with light, casting a soft glow ahead of him. The light wasn't the brightest, but it was better than nothing.
It was going to be another lonesome feast for Kanupa, save for the company of fireflies that blinked lazily around him. He began to dig at a spot on the ground, revealing some buried fruit he collected earlier in the day. Though he was all by himself, he was generally a happy Palui -- at least, on the outside.

Lexie padded lazily through the thinning undergrowth, not really paying attention to anything around her. She knew where she was now, so she didn't need to. A small smile lay on her lips though, as she breathed in the nice, familiar smell of the volcano, felt the ground becoming warmer under her paws. It was the feeling of home, a home she had missed for a good few months, and she was glad to be back.
She now came to the end of her green surroundings, and broke out onto the plain of small shrubs. It seemed lighter now that she wasn't enclosed - the light from the moon could reach her - but the light from her flames didn't have anything to bounce off of, so really, it wasn't much light. Lexie didn't mind though, she could smell her way if need be. A cold wind began to pick up, and nipped at her skin - she could feel it through her thick fur - and made her shiver, slightly. Even though the ground was warm underneath her, and her body temperature was rather high, she could still feel the cold.
she quickened her pace, paying attention now as she wanted to find a place to rest. She would have to forget about eating for today, there was no chance of finding food for now, not when she was slightly tired, and worn out from traveling.
It was then that something caught her attention. Out of the corner of her eye, she swore she saw something bright. She turned her head to see a pair of bright orange flickering flames, lighting the Palui beneath them. Lexie couldn't help but stop and just, gaze. She hadn't expected to see any other life around for a while, and, there seemed to be the faint smell of something eatable coming from the fire Palui's direction.

There was actually enough fruit that he had buried (and unburied) to feed at least two or three Palui, excluding the coconut that he brought over. Coconuts were tricky to crack open, requiring a good amount of effort, but he felt it was well worth it. Kanupa leaned down to pick up one of the fruit with his jaws, but his ears perked up when he sensed the presence of another. His nose caught the scent as well, and eventually he turned his honey brown eyes at blue female's direction. The female happened to be staring at him, and if he was of the insecure type, he'd feel unconscious.. especially since he was just staring back, with a fruit in his mouth.
Then he lowered the fruit to the ground, revealing a kind smile.
"Greetings, Fair Lady! Is there something I can help you with?"
And he gave a tilt of his head.

Lexie continued to stare for a while, then shook her head. She didn't know what to reply to him. Firstly, he had called her 'fair lady', which she definitely wasn't used to, and secondly, she couldn't work out if she had been attracted by the light of his flames, or the smell of food. Her stomach gave a disgruntled rumble, making a wash of discomfort sweep across her face. She really was hungry.
She decided she would go over to him, and ask for a little help. He seemed approachable from the manner of his greeting. As she padded over to him, she let a smile form on her lips, and began to call back her answer. "Hello! The light of your flames caught my attention, and I also caught the scent of food. I was wondering, do you know where I could find some of my own? I haven't eaten for a while and well-" She was interrupted by her stomach again, growling louder than the last time, embarrassing Lexie. She had to look away from the male, rather ashamed of herself.

Kanupa's flame-tipped ear flicked gently before he gave out a hearty chuckle, his smile broad. He began to remove the rest of the fruit from the hole, then turned his attention back to Lexie.
"You seem a bit weary from travels... Why not share these fruit with me and rest for the night? There is enough for the both of us, and I can always go fruit gathering tomorrow."
There were territories popping up here and there, but the flame Palui always managed to find food within unclaimed territory. He always respected the boundaries of Palui, though there were times when some Palui overreact, and was involved in a fight or two.
Kanupa clamped his jaws down onto the coconut's stump of a stem and padded over to the closest.. big rock, where he soon began to bash the coconut against it. He looked kind of silly doing it, but at the same time it didn't seem to bother him.

Lexie tried to hide how delighted she was at his offer, as she didn't want to seem desperate for food, or even company - she had been deprived of such a luxury for a while now - and smiled gratefully at him. "That is a very kind offer, that I would be more than happy to take up" She laughed, failing to cover the way her eyes sparkled with glee. She pondered as to whether she should offer to help him find more food in the morning, but, she decided she would wait to see how much they ate first.
She watched him curiously as he picked up a coconut that she hadn't noticed before, and took over to a large rock, then began to smack it against the hard surface. She gazed at him, her head tilted to one side, and couldn't help but think he looked rather stupid as he whacked the coconut on the rock. He would look even more stupid if he was doing it for no particular reason, but, Lexie knew that coconuts where very hard to crack open. She debated as to whether she should offer him some help, but, she didn't actually know what she could do,so she stayed quiet and stood awkwardly as she watched him.

Moments later, the coconut was split in half. Some juice spilled out, but that was to be expected. It was just a little juice, anyway, and plus there was the satisfying white meat of the coconut.
"Hah hah hah," he laugh aloud to himself, licking his muzzle a bit. "That's always a chore."
Then he carefully nudged one of the coconut halves over to Lexie -- the one with more juice, of course. Ah, such a gentleman... One would probably think he was just trying to charm her, or that he was just flirty with females, but that wasn't the case. He was just generally nice and gentlemanly; a goody goody. His old mentor just raised him to be that way, being told his valiant stories from his youth.
Kanupa settled down comfortably and began to lap at the juice of his coconut half. "It's rather pleasant to have company every once in a while," he murmured contentedly, smiling.

Lexie could only sit and stare, just managing a nod of appreciation as the male pushed the coconut half in her direction. She couldn't help but be surprised at him, purely because she had never met someone so...nice, before. Not to say that any other Palui she had met weren't nice, but this male, he was well mannered to such an extent that she had never come across before. She almost didn't know how to present herself around him.
She tentatively began to lap at the coconut juice, then she realised how amazingly hungry she really was - which was a lot more than she had first thought- but she fought to restrain herself from attacking the food with hunger and keep herself refined, not wanting to slip up and come across as not worth his polite manners.
Lexie couldn't help but relate to his words. Eating alone was pretty familiar to her as well, and she found herself already enjoying the company of another. "Yes, I couldn't agree more. It has been a long time since I last ate with another" She said, half reflecting back to that day, and a slight smile crossed her lips.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I haven't introduced myself! My name is Lexie" She spluttered, blushing slightly at her rudeness.

Kanupa smiled to himself as he watched Lexie enjoy her coconut half. Though, it'd look more like he was staring so he went ahead and brought the other fruit closer to accompany the coconut meal. The coconut juice was just the way he liked it: not too sweet and not too bland. He perked up when Lexie introduced herself, and it brung forth that hearty laughter of his. The Palui seemed almost seemed as jolly as a Santa Claus, but he really doesn't go frolicking around merily... especially being a wild Palui who lives on his own. It was a wonder why he wasn't a part of some coalition.
"No need to apologize, Miss. Sometimes introductions are forgotten when something else captures their attention. I'm guilty of that, as well," he chuckled.
Now, that probably sounded a little flirty, but Kanupa was more of a gentleman than a playboy. He had to admit, however, that Lexie was quite the attractive female, and the way she looked a little bashful like that was adorable.. Lexie was also a loner, just like him.
"I'm Kanupa, it's a pleasure to meet you, Lexie. Do you live close by?"
