I wouldn't say religion because theres people at my school that have gay friends and I hear theres a gay guy at the church well my schools church. Its just morals and standards. They change. Like when i was like 12 I would have hidden from any obviously gay person but now im just cool around gay guys but lesbians still scare me a bit. Its all because of my closet tendencies prolly.
i wouldn't say morals and standards because that's like saying they are disobeying something or defying someone by following who they have feelings for. i know gay friends, some more open about it, some more shy. it's society and the opinions and view upon the gay community that has these people hiding their sexuality due to a major bias opinion on them.
i'd have no problem shaking the hand of a gay or lesbian person, nor a problem living around or with one. i have bias opinions about bisexuals, but that's a whole other topic. anyways, anyone scared of them in my opinion is insecure about their sexuality and needs to put any thought aside that makes them feel gays are wrong, outcasts, or that every gay person is trying to get them(dating, sexual, violence, take this reference however you feel).
in short, homosexual or heterosexual, people are people.
