So last night my boyfriend and I were having sex, and I've been taking my birth control, but I've also been taking penicillin for the fillings I got recently. He knows this, of course. Anyways, we were having sex, and he accidentally came a little on my vag, and wiped it even more on it. gonk I asked him, "HAVE YOU NEVER SEEN THAT EPISODE OF SCRUBS WHERE JD GOT THE CHICK PREGNANT WITHOUT PENETRATION." and he apparently did not. He also came a little bit inside. I quickly wiped off my vag, but I'm not sure that helps. gonk .

So, any suggestions? Am I at a high risk of pregnancy?

On a side note, we have been dating for nearly a year, and I have yet to become pregnant after similar accidents. I am an adult as well, and I am aware of the side-effects of not using condoms, even while taking birth control, so please don't talk to me like a child, even if I may act like one. I didn't come here to be ragged on. sad

I don't know if I would say you're at a high risk, but you are at some risk.

You can get Plan B if you really really don't want to be pregnant right now. Other than that, there isn't much you can do. Take a pregnancy test if your period is late since that is the only way to know for sure.

If you two don't like condoms, you could try using a spermicide until you're off your medication.

I have Plan B, but would it work with the penicillin? I've stopped taking my penicillin since, and I have been continuing my birth control.

Also, if someone were like a week pregnant, would their period still not come? I am supposed to start sometime this week, so I am not sure if I'd be able to tell.

I would ask your doctor/gynecologist about the effectiveness of birth control with penecillin actually, and it'd be good to ask about Plan B's effectiveness with penecillin too.

Taken from: http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/birth_control/92276

Quote:
ANTIBIOTICS

Some antibiotics will cause a decrease in the effectiveness of hormonal birth control, so when using these drugs to treat infections, a non-hormonal back up method must be used. Most of the antibiotics are in the Penicillin and Tetracycline families. These include, but are in no way limited to; Amoxicillin, Ampicillin, Penicillin, Demeclocycline, Doxycycline, and Tetracycline. The antiviral drug Griseofulvin and the antituberculosis drug Rifampin can also cause hormonal forms of birth control to become less effective.

This site also has a long list of medications that will affect your birth control: http://pregnancy.lovetoknow.com/wiki/Antibiotics_and_Birth_Control

Don't stop taking your penicillin either, that's how infections return and/or become immune to the drugs. Continue taking your penicillin until you've finished the prescription, abstain from sex if you feel it's necessary, and then you can go back to being sexually active once you're done with the medication.

If you think you might be pregnant, wait a week and take a pregnancy test. If it's negative, wait another week after the day you're supposed to get your period, and if you still don't get your period, take another test and/or see your doctor. I would assume that if you're even a week or two pregnant then you wouldn't get your period, although some women spot or get their period throughout their pregnancy. Again, it's something to talk to your doctor/gynecologist about.

Good to hear! smile And on the plus side, while the situation was worrysome, now you know about medications that don't work with your birth control. 3nodding
