Work on your arm strength and posture. And since you played tuba, you know it's all about air, haha.

I don't think that you will have much trouble playing the baritone. You will have to get used to the smaller mouthpiece though. I think that is the biggest change. Otherwise you have the air support from playing the tuba so that shouldn't really be a problem. Baritone is great though so have fun. I made the change from trumpet to baritone for my schools lower level band and it was a pretty easy switch I just need to work on more air and then that really helped out my trumpet playing later.

Personally I say stick with the tuba. I played concert tuba and sousaphone but during concert band the band needed a baritone player and I tried it out... lets just say it sucked for me. If you do switch though, be sure to work on enough air to fill a tuba incase you switch back. Good luck!

The Big Disappointment Thanks....and yeah i really don't want to just cause the tuba is sooooo awesome but if we need a baritone i really have no choice now that i told him i would if this other guy can't do it Yep. Thats pretty much the same situation I was in. The other 2 tubas were a sophomore and a senior and I was a freshman so I had no choice because we needed another french horn and trombone and one other that switched was a freshman too. We never really had any baritones/ euphoniums ever and I ended up being the only one because the other senior who tried it went back to flute. confused
