It would be great and awful. It would be great because you could have more lolita friends, it would be more fun living the lifestyle; if others were wearing it around you, it would fit the setting better, it would seem more elegant instead of making me feel a little awkward, and obviously, you could get more lolita stuff & prices might go down a little, depending on where you go. Also, lolitas probably wouldn't get as many rude comments. Actually, adults would probably find it better than the emo fashions and all the piercing (well, except for the extreme gothic lolita looks). There are probably people like book fanatics and others who are just fans of that time period; like my mom actually likes some of the classic lolita dresses. :3 But on the other hand, it wouldn't be the same. People would ruin it and make it trashy. They'd totally miss the real point of lolita and then it would probably turn into just some boring jeans thing because people wouldn't dress it up right, or it would turn into some slutty thing. Knee length lolita skirts would be no more... D:

I don't think it is really a secret, it is just that people choose to recognize it or not.

I highly doubt it would be close to be considered lolita if the style hit mainstream.
Chances are, the clothes would be made to show more sexuality instead of actual modesty. ANd the whole point of lolita is to be modest. (unless you are ero-loli)
But it might be nice if more people were lolitas. It would mean people would have the chance to make more friends.
BTW. Did anyone else notice the sweet lolitas in the music video for Incubus' Black Heart Inertia?
:/ It looked really out of place.

If you like the style itself though you wouldn't mind if other people started wearing it because it wouldn't be about being different.

Passion not Perfection I've heard some lolita girls talking about how if it ever got mainstream it wouldnt be fun anymore. Being diffrent I mean. Saying anything that hits the mainstream dies off quickly, so what do you think? Ok for me if lolita went more main stream as does most Japanese trends eventually it doesn't mean that you have to start hating the fashion. Trends die out but if you truly admire it then it is your own prerogative, and more than likely it wouldn't be worn properly anyways if everyone started to do it. Like I think they take bits and pieces and throw it into other fashion stuff but going full loli might be too much for the masses. (Imagine your school cheer-leading squad all in loli ... it isn't gonna happen)

Forgive me if I may be repeating what some people may have already said, but I don't think being Lolita is about being different -- you just wear what you're comfortable with.
And it's nice to see kids out there actually promoting modesty, what where everywhere you look, it's all SEX.
I don't see what the big deal is about Lolita being more widespread in the west, afterall the Japanese didn't originally come up with the whole Victorian fashion.
