Mir wasn't picking up... Why wasn't she picking up?
Cindy looked down at her cellphone from the waiting room in the hospital, her right arm in a sling, and her left eye resembling the color of a plum. All in all, she looked like an abused puppy. No fancy clothing today. Just a simple black shirt, and simple black pants.
"What now, Aesop..." The way she formed her sentence made it sound like a statement instead of a question. Her car was way back at the apartment. She couldn't walk home. Even walking hurt in this condition. So... What?
Aesop didn't look like he was in the best conditions either. He'd gotten away from the fight with nothing more than a scrape, but there was something else up. He felt queasy... His head was spinning. And his body ached. But, his thoughts weren't on himself right now. They were on what had happened early today. He looked out the window towards the dark horizon approaching. Something told him that his night was far from over.
When she got no answer from the child sitting next to her, Cindy let out a soft sigh and searched through her phone for someone, anyone who might be able to help.
That's when the name caught her eye. She bit her lip. They'd only met once. Would he really... Could she ask that of him? It felt almost wrong for her to dial up an acquaintance and ask him to pick them up at a hospital of all places...
But he was her only hope...
With that thought in mind, she closed her eyes and hit the dial button, listening to the sound of a call going through...
It was gonna be hard to hold back. Hold back the screams and tears she wanted to push out. But she'd have to if she wanted to say what needed to be said. So she kept her voice very quiet and monotone as she spoke. Saying only, "It's Cindy. We're at the Hospital... Please come get us if you can..."

Kurios was of course, very much awake. He was sitting with Kashya in the middle of his boutique's guest lounge on the strech couch, using the fadding red leather chair as a pin cushion as he helped her to thread, sew, cut and tie bits and piece os fabric and thread. Kashya's small and nible fingers seemed to have come in handy for such an activity, and the young girl had naturally become rather skilled in how to make some items that she should not ought to have, until soem time from now. She was passed the begining items of bags and pencil cases, and well into the process of following patterns to make basic clothign pieces. Just socks and gloves, though her hemlines were still uneven and unless Kurios cut the fabric, her hand gave the cut shapes a broken edge. Comming along nicley, but still Learning.
As the sound of music clashed with the night time tlak radio, Kurios smiled and gave Kashya a smile before going over to the main entrance and picking up the phone which vibrated on the table top he had placed it on when he and Kashya entered.
The male didn't even get the chance to offer a 'hello' before a somewhat familier voice was speaking on the other. Cindy's tone seemed to be calm, but it was flat and without dip or jump in pitch like she had been when they met.
"See you when we get there," Kurios replied hanging up. He wasn't sure if taking Kashya would be smart concidering where he was picking the blonde up from, but he gathered Cindy had taken Aesop from the 'us'. Surely it wasn't so bad then.
He picked up a jacket and put the phone in his pocket before going to collect Kashya. "We'll come back later," he promised, anxious over what could cause Cindy to call him of all people, to a hospital.
----------------
By the speed of the car, there must have been something of a worrying nature on Kurios's mind. Simply the fact that he had given Kashya very little information on the situation had already led her to believe this conculsion. Kurios pulled into the hospital he said Cindy was at, holding her hand once she was outside the car as well.
Kashya followed Kurios into the building, the doors closing and opening as the stepped just a few metres before it. Both she and Kurios began turning there heads, looking for the caller who had rang Kurios.

"I'm over here.." Cindy called quietly as she saw the two walk in. There she was, sitting with Aesop in the lounge room chairs. Both looked worse for ware. Cindy because it look like she got in a fight with a lion and lost, Aesop because he looked like he was coming down with a fever of sorts.
The girl slowly stood up and gave a soft sigh. "Sorry... About calling you all the way out here without much of an explanation." She refused to make direct eye contact as she spoke. Whether it was to prevent the black eye from looking as bad as it was or because she was afraid of more questions was anyone's guess. "I just..." She took a minute to regain her control, letting out another sigh. "I had no one else to call..." She wondered if he'd ask... If he'd pry about what happened to her arm. Or her eye. He didn't even see the other bruises that were hidden under her clothing. Which she was grateful for. But moreso, she wondered if she could tell him without bursting out into tears and screaming. about how the bittersweet life she'd learned to love had been turned into a complete nightmare. About how she was afraid to go home. About how disappointed her Dad must be by now.
Aesop warily stood on his feet with a small wobble and gave a small wave to Kashya. Though he said nothing. His stomach was twisting and turning. He was afraid if he opened his mouth, all of the contents would empty out.

Kurios looked to the calling voice, letting a smile fix itself to his lips, if she was able to at leats call to him then clearly her damage could not be so bad that she might be in need of a mask. He caught sight of her and unintentionally let the corner of his smile tilt down a fraction. While she didn’t need a machine to help her breathe, she was not at all in any sort of state worth calling adequate. She was bruised he could see, not just lightly discoloured purple either. These spots ranged from indigo Hughes right down to beat-up greens and ugly yellows. Most of these were on her arms though, while her face was a mass of swelling and cuts. And while Aesop looked physically healthier on his skin, the emotion stress could be seen on his face as clear and Cindy’s bruises.
Cindy stood, and Kashya and Kurios were to quick to hasten forward so she might not have to travel so far. Her eyes were diverted, to her shoes, the ceiling, the woman to her right, anywhere but actually at Kurios or Kashya themselves. All Kurios wanted to do was punch himself at that moment. He knew it wasn’t right, but he felt a sting of pity for her and Aesop but he knew it was unjust. Cindy was a grown woman, she wouldn’t want pity, she just wanted a lift and to be away from all this sterile germ free wards and white washed rooms. “We really weren’t doing anything anyway,” He replied casually, as if he was just picking up a drunk friend from a pub. “This will probably be the nights highlight. I would rather you call then hear about you sitting here all night. Getting served cold tea from forgetful nurses,” he chuckled here, attempting to bring an ease to the air.
It occurred to him that as they began making the trek to the car, that as they walked he could hear no keys other than his own jingling or rattling. No c***k as Cindy’s house keys met with one another and colliding as she walked. Just his own keys which he held in hand waiting until they reached the car. Clearly she had left them at home. Or rather, she had been forced to leave them at home.
“Would it be too much to ask if I could bring you back to my place instead?” He asked, a look of false guilt on his face. “I’m not sure I have the petrol to go from here to your place, and I didn’t think to bring my wallet,” The former was true for the most part, but the later not so much. “I don’t mind stopping by the house to pick up cash if you’re keen to get home, but it would be doing me a favour if you would consider spending the night with us instead,” He admitted falsely so as to seem as if Cindy staying would be doing him a favour.
“Ryo is out tonight as well, so you can take up Kurios’s room while he sleeps in there,” Kashya added matt-o-fact like.
As the two taller being walked a head, kurios remained by Aesop’s side, worrying very greatly over the state of her crimson eyed companion. He looked so utterly drained and defeated. Kashya was not so foolish as to miss the clear difference between Aesop and Cindy either. By putting one and one together, it was clear to see that Cindy had obviously done everything to make sure that whatever was beating her did not make its way to her ward.
With caution, she picked up Aesop’s hand and held it in her own, walking hand In hand with him as they followed. It was a tactic Kurios often used to Kashya herself, and she hoped it might help Aesop also. She didn’t want to imagine what sort of image those eye of his had seen. Unlike Kurios however, Kashya did not try to simply let things slip. She turned a concerned eye to Aesop. Was it wrong to wish she could give solace to him?

Cindy listened to Kurios's attempts at consoling her. Telling her that it was no big deal. Nothing to it. As nice of a gesture as it was, she couldn't help thinking it was a lie. Things like this... Calling on others for help... She'd been avoiding it like the plague. Her desire for independence was almost lust.
Like a caged bird...
On the way to her car, she too realized that her keys were gone as she reached her free hand into her pocket. Didn't really matter... She was sure the landlord had a-
She froze dead in her tracks when he asked that question. His explanation was almost tuned out by the thoughts almost racing through her head. What if they were there? What if they were back at her door, waiting for her to return? They knew where she lived now. And what scared her most of all was... They knew about Aesop.
She was... Afraid to go home. Cindy's eyes widened at that sudden realization. Her little place... Wasn't really a home anymore.
"Please, take me to your house... I don't want to go home." Her voice sounded like it was cracking. All she'd worked for... All the precautions she took... They just weren't enough. But it wouldn't make her cry. She broke that habit a long time ago. She couldn't cry. She wouldn't cry.
And she wasn't the only one who didn't want to go back. Aesop eyed his mother wearily from the back. He could feel her sadness. Her fear. And there was nothing he could do about it.
The thoughts were broken as he felt a hand around his. He looked toward Kashya with surprise, which slowly turned into appreciation. As small as the gesture was, it was an act of comfort that he desperately needed. He gave her hand a small squeeze, but didn't dare convey what had happened... At least in front of his mother.
His ears gave a twitch when she finally spoke. It looked like he'd have a chance to later... Because they weren't going home...
And he was grateful for that.

Kurios hadn’t expected her to answer so willingly, but didn’t relay his own curiosity or surprise to her words, simply mumbled a simply ‘’Sure, no worries,” before turning down to a small car with two doors and opened the passenger side before pulling the seat forward for the two smaller passengers to climb in.
Kashya took the driver’s side, pushing a compilation of items to the floor as she did so to make room for her companion. Waiting patiently for the boy to sit next to her.
Once Aesop was seated, Kurios shifted the seat into its upright position and gestured for Cindy to also hop in and moved himself around the car til he sat at the wheel also.
“Buckled up?”He asked out of habit to the back seat duo. He saw Kashya nod from the rear vision mirror and checked Cindy also before pulling the car into reverse and backing out the parking spot and leaving the hospital behind the four arriving at Kurios’s abode not soon after.
The two had been to their house before, as Ryo’s guests of course, but at least Kurios thought, it might make them fell less like strangers. He wasted no time in fiddling with keys and opened the door to the house with a brief click and the swing of a hinge. “The bathroom’s not too far in if you remember the way,” Kurios mentioned, thinking the two might wish to wash up a little. “Want a drink?”

Cindy wasted no time taking her seat in the car and buckling herself up. It was a subconscious thing she did without realizing anymore. Something her parents taught her to be very important.
Which she'd also been teaching Aesop. The boy scooted next to his companion and, even though he had to fiddle with it, finally buckled himself up. He wasn't used to sitting in the backseat...
And, strangely enough, he wasn't his usual curious self. He kept his eyes on his hands which sat still in his lap. When Aesop wasn't examining everything he could find, you knew there was something amiss.
As they arrived at Kurios's house and stood at the door waiting for him to open it, both had almost identical expressions of being drained. Physically and emotionally. Cindy's eyes glanced to her slung arm, a glint of hurt in her eyes.
When the door slung open, she snapped out of her little trance and took steps in, Aesop closely behind.
"A drink would be nice." Cindy managed to push out. A drink of alcohol, she imagined, would be even nicer... But even in her rock-bottom state, she didn't want to resort to alcoholism. It was something her dad went though as a teen and had strongly advised her against... Her dad... What would he think when he heard...?
Aesop took a moment after they were inside to lean up against the wall and catch his breath. What was wrong with him? His whole body hurt... Sure, that girl had pushed him down... But not nearly hard enough for all this...

“Aesop,” Kashya uttered mutely under her breath, concern flowing through her words in anxiety. True she held worry over the older one also, but her fear for Aesop seemed stronger in her. Maybe it was because Kashya identified with the younger man more, maybe it was because she was scared to be alone herself. If Aesop disappeared she’d be alone in her confusion of what she was again. But it was more than just that, Cindy was mature also, she knew how to handle this more so, Aesop had never seen real violence before...perhaps she reminded herself. Kashya didn’t really know much about him in actuality. But she had only a strong urge to keep his light shining.
She teetered over to him, this time gently wrapping her arms around his, not even leaving him room to pull away if he wanted. “Soda, juice, water, kool aid?”He offered. “Or would you rather a strong coffee or tea?”He said, eying the half empty kettle waiting to be boiled.
He fetched it quickly, filling it with more water and flicking the power switch on. The familier sound of boiling water filled the kitchen, and he pulled a cup down for himself leaving the cupboard open in case Cindy took him up on the offer.
“I can run out and get some overnight provision if need be as well,””he said not letting his eyes leave the kettle. “Or more than just over night if need be,” he added. “But as I imagine you’re not much in the right mind frame for decision making or discussions either...so I don’t mind if you delay answering until the morning to get some sleep if it’s what you prefere,”

"Kashya..." Aesop rubbed his head before continuing to speak. "I'll be alright..." Was it a lie? Well, not completely. Since he didn't know if he'd be alright or not. But it made him feel better that Kashya was watching out for him.
He looked up toward Cindy, who was following Kurios into the kitchen, then back at her. He let out a soft sigh and smiled a little. "Lets go somewhere private... I'll tell you about what happened." His voice was a low whisper. Because even if his Mother was dazed, he didn't want a chance of her hearing what he planned to do. She probably didn't want him talking about it... But it was something he had to get off his chest. And he knew Kashya would listen.
Cindy, thinking Aesop would go play with Kashya or something, took a seat in the kitchen. Her eyes looked down at the table. "Soda's good." She didn't much care for coffee or tea, after all.
As he continued suggesting what he could do for her, Cindy just sighed. "I can pay you." Her voice was a low tone now. "For taking care of me and Aesop. I don't want to be a leech." She didn't want to be what she hated most. Feeding of someone's kindness without having a second thought. She could never be that. The word hypocrite echoed through her head. Bounced back and fourth from one side to the other. No... She wouldn't do that.

Kashya felt both thrilled and nervous about Aesop telling her what happened, she didn’t want him to feel he was obligated to say anything, but it was her nature to be curios, and she couldn’t help but feel glad he was at least talking to someone. But whether it would help, she was doubtful, she had little knowledge with which to off advice and almost got a feeling as if she might be trespassing on such close affairs to the fae.
She gave a curt nod, lowering her protective hold on him to just his hand, directing him to her own room, where they had made small bead necklaces when they had last met. Just remembering the fun of that day, while drastically different in comparison to the situation, held a comfort. Like reverting to then.
“”Hope Mountain dew is okay” Kurios poured Cindy’s drink while waiting for the kettle to boil for his own, hearing it go off just as he had placed the cool beverage next to Cindy, who had taken a seat. He took a moment longer to make tea for himself and sat opposite her.
“I’d feel guilty taking money from you Cindy,” He said, thinking about what the idea of an actual rent sharing tenant might be like but shrugged. “But if you really felt bad about staying, I’d feel better if you helped out simply by buying milk if we ran out or cooking on the odd day,” He smirked. “Even that would be more than what my other guest does,” He let them sit for a moment in silence, just sipping his drink. “But you’re welcome to stay here without lifting a finger at all if you want,” Kurios really did mean what he meant, he was more concerned what might happen if Cindy where to fall out of Aesop’s life due to one of her injured from today getting worse.

Aesop quietly followed her into the room he also held fondly in his memories. He still had the necklace they'd made... Though it was at home.
Home...
Gently, he let go of her hand and sat down, a serious look on his brow. "It happened really fast..." He started and glanced at the ground. "There was a loud screech... Then Cindy was pounding at the door. And before I could open it, I heard a slam.."
He looked back at Kashya. There was sadness in his eyes. "When I opened the door, there was this other girl standing over Cindy... She kept kicking her... And saying terrible things." He wouldn't repeat those things... They were... Vile. "I tried to stop her... But she just pushed me down... And then..."
"And then.."
It was blurry... He couldn't completely remember what had transpired... But... "I remembered something that never happened to me. It was like a dream... But it felt so real. Then everything was really cold... And I guess I scared her off..."
Cindy stared at the Mountain Dew soda for a moment before trying to reach up with both hands and open it. She cringed, but made no sound to make her pain known. It took her a minute, but she managed to open the soda with one hand.
When he spoke of feeling guilty, she could only think of her Father and Step-mother. She continued to listen to his suggestions... Though her eyes looked like she wasn't home.
"That's the reason I ran away from home." She said blunty, almost out of nowhere. She didn't give an explanation right away. She took a sip of her soda before she even started that.
"Dad was a nice guy. And he'd bring stray people home... My Step-mom's children, who were fully grown, also leeched off their kindness... Never once did they try to pay them back for everything they did. We'd gone into bankruptcy once because of them, and they didn't even bat an eye."
"After grandma died... When I turned 18, I inherited all of her money. And I ran away before they could leech off me too... But not before I told them what I thought of them. What I'd been holding back through my childhood. Because I thought someone needed to tell them."
"Look at where that got me."
