alphabet soup and numbersABC DEF GHI JKL MNO PQR STU VWX YZ1-10
Charles had tried to figure out how the best way to get the child to sit down and just take the effort to color, and hopefully learn, the alphabet and at least ten numbers, but she was so intent on ignoring him; not that he wasn't used to it or anything. "Denny, just stay still and color these worksheets, would you, it's important and you need to learn these eventually," he asked helplessly, watching the child run around the small apartment, hoping she wouldn't wreck anything, because he was tired and this was not helping at all. "Besides, you like coloring, don't you? You're supposed to like coloring."
"I don' need no edumacation," the girl said in defiance. "Y'said ya were gonna play a game with me," she whined, hanging off the back of the couch and staring at Charlie with big eyes, hoping to persuade him to keep up with his end of the deal: after he came home, it was play time! That was the rule, albeit unofficial, and that's what she wanted to do, so it was going to get done. "Y'said so, but you're not and you're being mean, Cha'lie!"
He looked at her like she'd grown an extra head and tried to remember but couldn't. "Seriously? When did I say that?"
"This mornin' when you were rushin' around and I was tryin' to talk t'ya, see, and you kept noddin' and sayin' yeah, so you promised!" Denny pouted and continued staring at her caretaker, unnerving him even more, but the accusations were really getting annoying. He didn't need this! He really didn't! After having people yell at him all day for doing his job, he has to come home to a toddler that yells at him for not keeping a promise he can't even remember making? Why was the world so cruel?
"I'll tell you what," he started, looking off to the side, "if you just let me rest and do these worksheets, I'll take you to the pool or beach or something tomorrow, alright? Just behave, please. Please," and he looked back at her in time to see the giant grin that spread across her face.
"'kay, I'll do 'em!" Denny said quickly, running over and snatching the papers from her guardian; she went to her little supply box in the corner, sifting through all the colored crayons for the best ones, working almost too diligently (but Charlie took that thought with a grain of salt and promptly took refuge in his room before it was too late).
