I don't know if this will help but if you right click on the icon of an installed program and go to Properties, there will be a tab where you'll find the option to make it backwards compatible with XP service pack 2 that you can click on. It's good for programs that worked good on XP but have a few problems with Vista.
Only reason I know this is because the tech guy showed me that option when we were getting the new desktop set up at my parent's house. But it works.

[/late] Honestly, I enjoy Vista. It's something different. I like playing with things, and trying to figure stuff out on my own. It's frustrating at times, but I always know I can just google search for whatever's wrong, and someone will guide me through how to fix it.
But, yeah. As time passes, more things will be compatible with Vista. And we'll dance.

I'm modding the ******** out of vista. I discovered theming and docks, and I now have a heavily steampunk vista. I'm looking for a good wallpaper right now. :3

Maple works perfectly on my laptop with vista, no glitches, nothing. :/ Then again, my laptop came with vista in it.

I'm not sure, but maybe the data execution program has been interfering with the installation program. That program seems to be interfering with a lot of items for vista. You can turn it off for the installer and see if that works. ------- copyed and paste from the windows help program-----
Data Execution Prevention (DEP) is a security feature that helps prevent damage from viruses and other security threats by monitoring your programs to make sure they use system memory safely.
If you choose to protect all programs, you can still turn off DEP for individual programs. If you suspect that a program does not run correctly when DEP is turned on, check for a DEP-compatible version of the program or an update from the software publisher before you change any DEP settings.
Click to open System.
Click Advanced System Settings. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Under Performance, click Settings.
Click the Data Execution Prevention tab, and then click Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select.
