Yes, I started reading the Transiitions Series and got kind of disgusted with the book that was mostly involved in the Barbarians' torture stuff. But, my husband and son got me started on these and I will probably start on them again. We just got the Pirate King so I have a few to read to catch up. I truly love the Drizzt.

"The Barbarians' torture stuff"? That doesn't sound like The Orc King; that sounds more like Spine of the World, which is a part of the Paths of Darkness series, not the Transitions. Am I not remembering correctly? (It has been a while since I read TOK...)

Yes you are right. I get confused with the all of the series within the series. I just finished Sea of Swords and loved it so now I'm starting with the next set. I hope they are as good. I guess Spine of the World was just a little too dark for me, but it works out good in the end. This author is really top-notch.

Well, that makes sense. It's not like he has only one or two to get mixed up. 3nodding

Most people consider SotW to be one of his weaker books, for many reasons. I myself just wasn't very interested in the storyline, and Wulfgar, while I've always felt bad for him and he holds a special place in my heart, has never been one of my favorite characters.

I take it you're starting on Thousand Orcs? Let us know what you think when you finish!

I loved it! I'm working on "The Lone Drow" now and I really am enjoying this. Do most of Salvatore's series tie in together or does he have other independent series? I really am enjoying this author.

Glad to hear you're still enjoying RAS! He has several other series, but his most popular non-Forgotten Realms universe is one of his own creations, the world of Corona. The DemonWars Saga (beginning with The Demon Awakens) is made of seven novels.

Wikipedia on The Demon Awakens
This book introduces the reader to Elbryan Wyndon and Jilseponie Ault, two young friends whose lives are irrevocably changed by the destruction of their village of Dundalis, and Avelyn Desbris, a pious young man who enters the monastery of St.-Mere-Abelle in order to study and to serve God. Divided by the catastrophe, Elbryan and Pony (Jilseponie's nickname) struggle to sort out their lives while Avelyn comes to terms with the all-too-human brothers of the Church and the myriad injustices he witnesses them cause.

I know of many people who hail the DemonWars Saga as his greatest work.

But quite personally, I disagree. Occasionally I think I'm the only one who thinks that, though. ninja

I thoroughly enjoy another of his works within the world of Corona, The Highwayman. (In fact, I'm rereading it now. smile ) I want to say that it takes place more than a hundred years before DemonWars, but don't quote me on that. At any rate, the Church is just newly formed and is vying for power with the Samhainists. The main character is the son of a brother of the Church and a mystic from a distant land.

Then he has two other series that I enjoyed, The Crimson Shadow (beginning with The Sword of Bedwyr) and The Spearwielder's Tale (beginning with The Woods Out Back). The Crimson Shadow tells of a man who doesn't fully understand the tryanny of the lords until his close friend is killed, at which point he takes up his sword in a rebellion against them. The Spearwielder's Tale is that of a normal man who works in a plastic manufacturing factory, until one day he falls asleep outside while reading The Hobbit and wakes up to find himself in Tir'Na'Nog.

Finally, there are The Chronicles of Ynis Aielle, beginning with Echoes of a Fourth Magic. This was the first novel he ever wrote (although The Crystal Shard is the first one he ever had published).

FantasticFiction.co.uk
Jeff "Del" DelGuidice was proud of his assignment to the research submarine The Unicorn. But his mission had barely begun when the vessel was sucked into a mysterious underseas void where time stood still, before propelling it forward, through the centuries. The crew surfaced in a strange, magical world changed forever by nuclear holocaust. Here a race of angelic beings had taken pity on the remnants of humankind, offering a chosen few a precious second chance.

And then there are the Star Wars novels he wrote. I dunno much about them.

...can you tell I'm a fangirl of RAS'? sweatdrop

Wow, I'm sorry I'm just now getting back to this. Some of these other series sound really interesting!!! I may try to find the World of Corona and the Highwayman first. I absolutely love this author too! My problem is I try to read too many things at one time.
