I think it would probably be more benificial to him, it'd be hard not to draw attention to himself in demon form...this way it gives him the element of suprise if someone/thing tries to attack him.

I think Sesshoumaru retains his human form because he finds it more convient to do so. Youkai turn into human in order to blend into human society without standing out too much.

Given Sesshoumaru's personality, I think it's wise to say that he finds it bothersome to constantly swap between his human form and his real form so he just takes on the appearance of a human.

Or... one can always say that he doesn't like staying in his true form because (as cool as it may be) it's honestly pretty ugly... and that perhaps he doesn't want to see himself in an ugly light. Just a few thoughts that's been swimming in my head since the manga finished several months ago... I've always seen Sesshoumaru as a super narcassist. xDD


I think you're getting confused with the translation used on the suffix: "sama." Viz may have officially translated it as "lord," but I don't think that actually means that Sesshoumaru is a real lord. Sama is just added at the end of a person's name (usually the surname, if you're talking in terms of the Feudal Era) as a sign of respect.

Proof for this is that Kagome calls Miroku "Miroku-sama" and Miroku calls Kagome "Kagome-sama." Are the two of them lords? Clearly not. Better yet, Myouga hasn't ruled any kingdom of any sort, yet he's known as "Myouga-sama" among the inu-tachi.


I agree. Sesshoumaru's human form seems far from human to me as well. Then again, his sense of smell is so keen and he's so fast, I don't think it's necessary for him to mask himself completely. xDD

Miroku is a traveling monk. At that time, Miroku's position was the lowest a monk can get. Kagome and Kikyou are mikos--once again, Mikos are actually assistants to priests and priestesses and have a fairly low standing on the clerical hierarchy. Jaken is just Jaken. In fact, given the way Rin has become like a daughter to Sesshoumaru, I think she is higher on the social ladder. Even so she still calls him Jaken-sama.

A more accurate suffix reserved only for people of higher social standing would be "dono/tono," or "oujou-san/oujou-sama."

i agree completely with that....i love his demonic form and his human form.Either way hes very powerful, intelligent, and gorgeous as can be..

But where is your proof that he's a demon lord?

As far as the manga is concerned, Sesshoumaru (like Inuyasha--before he married Kagome--and Inu-papa) was/still is nomadic, hanging around in certain places before moving on to a different area. Sess-mom proves it by complaining that he hardly visits her.

He doesn't rule over this imaginary "western land" that keeps popping up in fanfiction (half of which are so full of s**t, it actually hurts). In case you haven't noticed, his father is known as the Inu no Taishou, the kanji forming "Taishou" meaning "general" not "lord." Lords--officially known as Daimyo--own large square kilometers of land, Generals don't. And I highly doubt Inu-papa really gave a damn about owning property. He probably cared about being the strongest warrior alive, which is a personality attribute that carried down to Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha.

Also, the last time I checked, Lords have property. They have a hundred servants down the line to their beck and call. They own large groups of personal soldiers (in this case, samurai) at their disposal, along with a damn fine roof over their heads. The only properly Sesshoumaru has are the clothes on his back, Jaken, Ah-un, Tenseiga (his SOLE heirloom, by the way), and Bakusaiga.

And why do you care if I think Sesshoumaru's real form is ugly or not? I'm sorry if I offended you by saying so, but the giant red eyes and the acidic saliva simply doesn't cut it for me.

Finally, what kind of human am I? I am an honest human, a human who speaks her mind when she sees fit. I also happen to be a fan of Sesshoumaru, and a big one to boot. Which is the very reason why I also like to pick out what I believe to be his negative attributes. You may think his true form is sexy, but I don't. Why? Because I am me, not you.

Sesshomaru's father was the lord of the western lands and upon his death, Sesshomaru inherited the title. He doesn't care about overseeing anything, but even in the series/manga- the episode/chapter where Rin asks if Sesshomaru will remember her when she dies, Jaken explains that Sesshomaru is planning on becoming the most powerful demon lord.
