Good god am I hungover today.. ugh.
So I'm addicted to the Travel Channel; Bizarre Foods, and No Reservations in particular, and in one episode of NR, Anthony Bourdain went to Sao Paolo. Throughout the entire show they were drinking these damn drinks.. which looked really good, so I had to give em a shot.
1 Lime
3 spoonfuls of sugar
2 oz Cachaca
Ice
Pretty simple recipe. First you roll the lime on the cutting board to loosen the juices up, then slice it in half, and each half into quarters, put 4 slices in the bottom of a glass and mash it with a pestle, not too much tho or else it will get bitter. Sprinkle the sugar over the top, add the Cachaca, stir, add the ice, stir again and enjoy.
Now Cachaca is a Brazilian spirit, and should be found somewhere near the rum if you go searching for it.. but it may be tricky to find. Luckily the store I work in has all kinds of cool booze so I managed to find it pretty easily.
This drink is kind of a sipper, it's a little tart, and from the git go it's almost like taking a swig of Tequila, then after a while it starts to get really mellow and pleasant. I'll be posting another recipe next week for a Brazilian dish that this drink traditionally goes with. Enjoy!
