So, I want to make a thread in M&R - a discussion on the morals a Utopian society would have. Based on the subjective aspects of Utopia, I think this could end up being somewhat interesting, but also perhaps short-lived. Could also end up being shunted into the maelstrom of ED main page. I dunno.

A few one-liners I want to work with:

The Golden Rule - "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you"

For the Greater Good - Oath of sacrifice and forgiveness

Lex Talionis - the Law of Retaliation. (Because, let's face it, humans are going to break the rules)And 'Lex Talionis' is fun to say

Just looking for some feedback so I can try and develop something a bit more robust and (hopefully) original.

Given how subjective Utopian is, this will be a doozy.

I suppose another important point would be whether there would even be a government, or laws... many Utopias are compassionate anarchies.

Another, would be in the establishment, and value of equality, or authority... in the perfect society, why would anyone need to rule over, another?

Depending on ones views of human nature, any sort of artificial control may be seen as destroying Utopia, in favour of State mandated happiness. ninja

I'm not so certain I want to use perfection in my idea of Utopia, especially in light of human nature. We're too dynamic to work flawlessly, but I do think there's a stage we can get to that's the closest we'll ever be to perfection...

Be very carefull that Utopia doesn't fall to tyranny, in the name of keeping people harmonious... ninja
