@ Snoof: I get where your coming with on the stones. But the ash part would kinda be leaning way into someone else's, as their thinking of "Ash like Snow".
@Mouse: Wait I'm confuzzled.. :< *thinks of a way to explain current confusion* So.. the concept of coming up with a fel essence isn't so much based on real life things, but.. hmm. More on the story life things? God that's confusing in itself.. Uh.. Ok.. hmm. The whole concept of Raevans, the creating of fel essences, and the items that are already in existence are only within the story itself? Or is it we can't use stuff that's actually in real life and existing only in real life outside of a computer world? D: God I suck at making confusing explanations into a more understandable reasoning. ._. Cause I read the whole front page, I've read it, re-read it, and what not o-o but I'm starting to loose focus on what is supposed to exist in this story line and concept.
So a Stone of Darkness and one of Light exist within the story itself, but not in real life? (Which technically it doesn't >.> ) I guess I could put it down like that. >:

To explain a Fel Essence simply, it's something that exist, that shouldn't exist. Something about that real thing changed during the storm, or its after effects, and now it is a contradiction of itself; the easiest examples are Laz's fire that never goes out, even with a lack of oxygen, or Roux's ice that never melts.
Keep that in mind, and take something you like/think would be cool to use, and then try to bend it onto itself, so that it doesn't quite make sense to exist anymore.

Ummm... not exactly, Ravij. Fel essences are elements that are contradictory in nature, and the best ones are usually ones you can boil down to a basic idea and describe in a short sentence - light without a source, coffee that makes you lethargic, living ink, solid rainbows and so on.
It doesn't matter whether it's a fantasy or real-life object as long as you go with that pattern.
Let's say I'd like to have a magic-based Raevan, so I put down the essence as 'fairy dust'. That's not good enough - it's magical and all, but it's doing what it should be doing by being all magical and sparkly and so on. A way to make it a proper fel essence could be to say it's fairy dust with no magical power in it at all - it's contradicting itself by not being enchanted, even though it should.
The fel essence for Ekundayo is the 'Cloud of Despair', and it qualifies because it's a metaphor for depression that's become a tangible object.
Snoof's idea of starting with a basic element you like is a good one. It's more or less how the Reverse Coffee essence came into existence, and I imagine Kyou uses the same method to come up with other ones used in flatsales and events. ouo

Yeah I understand that part Snoof, but what are the boundaries between the Story and Real Life(as in away from a computer, like the real world all around you). Does the story contain the real world elements? Or is it completely made up? Like as far as towns and stuff go.
Edit: Mouse you kinda hit a button there that said "Ravij understands a little biggrin " But still confused by some parts. x.x

The lab is set in Gaia, but the setting is pretty lax all together, and there's characters from modern-Earth cities as well as from Gaian cities. o_O Don't worry about that part so much. The backstory is more to explain how fel essences came into existence than anything else.

To add on to what Mouse said, 'cause I'm not sure if this is true for you but I sense a bit of confusion elsewhere in that post [though I was a little confused by the wording], the Essence shouldn't be anything man made, completely from nature.
I remember some one trying to do a corrupted data Essence and that tanked horribly because it broke the nature rule, and it wasn't really a contradiction because data can easily get corrupted.

Kay o.o *also did a Ninja edit on post above Mouses* That "Ravij understands a little biggrin " knob is still striving to become fully understanding. x_x
So basically a stone of Light and Darkness exist in the story already as, what? A bases for elements? A bunch of stones? or some magical force that has been there all this time? D:

I think the point flew over Ravij's head a little :/
The "stones of light and darkness" aren't a very good Essence source, at least if they're being used to create the actual Fel Essence. If you're stuck on them, try to take it back a bit to, maybe, what the stones originally were. If they were originally normal rocks, and then the storm gave them special, contradictory properties, then you'd probably be better off.
Try steering away from an Essence description that lists two things, and follow all of what Mouse has said so far xD

Oh poor Rav. You've been trying so hard I know. And I know I wasn't able to fully help before, but I think I can now that I've read over the concept a few times. Basically, your new essence idea is plausible, you just have to take something out. You have to decide whether the stones are your fel essence or if it's the spark.
Frankly, I like the idea of the spark myself as there are plenty of stone like essences around. Not saying you have to go with the spark, you can still use the stones instead if you want, I'm just saying it stands out more. If you do go with the spark, I suggest starting with the color thing. Let that stew for awhile and then see if you perhaps want to rework it later.

I just got a really simple idea with a spark.
Infinity Spark; normally sparks last for about a second, but this one was created and never goes away.
